Subject: For Those of You Who Think We Play As Master Chief

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

Umm Op its NOVA 1 not Noble 1

and in First Strike it is mentioned that there is a super powerful nuke the UNSC developed called the Nova that they wanted to use on the Covenant homeworld.

Combat Team Sierra

Combat Team Sierra could just follow the military alphabet of sorts. Spartans, in code, are refereed as Sierra-*insert number here*

Pure speculation.

Spartan numbers never went higher than 150, And Class II's didn't exist.

It's likely that Those Sierras in the teaser were just pelicans. (Echo 419-Sierra 259/320)

Have you read the Halo: Fall of Reach book AT ALL? Read it and tell me who was there. Who was the main character in that book?

I'm sorry, I didn't know the game was called "Halo: Fall of Reach: Based entirely on the Best Selling Book."

Oh wait, it isn't.

The game will be based on five spartan's experiences of the Battle of Reach. Not on the protagonists of the book doing exactly what they do in the book. That would create a boring game.

Posted by: privet caboose
They have referred to Marines as Sierra as well, why couldn't it of been marines?

Where do they refer to Marines as "sierra"?

Look, the squad is John's squad. Sam, Kelly, John, Linda, Fred(i think thats his name). That's 5. You most likely will play as him, as he was the natural leader of the squad. I am not saying that the game will be entirely based upon the book.

Sam dies in Chief's very first encounter with the Covenant.

...We are playing as five unknown spartans. Its the only logical way for the game to work.

If it isn't based entirely off the book, then its like punching the author in the groin because to turn the book into a videogame you need to kill canon or elaborate apon everything to the point where the book doesn't even match up.

Much easier to focus on unknown characters, that way the book is still accurate.

Not true.

1) It has been confirmed that we are playing as a Spartan in a group of Five Spartans
2) All said protagonists that the one guy named off were never together at once to fight the covenant.

So with those in mind, how is the game going to work again?

  • 10.20.2009 4:36 PM PDT

Do you seriously believe that the game is going to be solely about the battle of Reach?

That would make for a pretty boring game.

1 real mission, then 9 levels of just defending castlebase.

Fun stuff.

Assuming Sierra 259 and 320 are spartans, they in fact were all together on the PoA before the battle, so yes, all the spartans were together at some point. The banner figures could be any combination of spartans (again assuming they are spartans).

You could play as the different squads that defended the generators. Each character could represent a different squad of Red Team (I believe it was red who was sent down to Reach).

1. It's not Spartan 259. It's SIERRA 259
2. Sierra=/= Spartan
3. INB4SIERRAISONLYUSEDFORSPARTANS.
4. Sierra has been used to designate marines, http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Combat_Team_Sierra
5. Check my thread for like 10000 reasons on why class II spartans don't exist.

sierra is a military pneumatic for "s" as in "spartan" notice how they refer to mc as "Sierra 117" in halo 3.

You obviously don't understand how the pneumatic system works, do you?

So you think that S is used exclusively for Spartan, because I already proved it wrong.

no, i'm saying that it can mean spartan. of course it could stand for something else, but since there are spartans on the planet, and people are refering to themselves as "sierra" i'm assuming that it could stand for spartan.
however i'm not saying it couldn't stand for the following:
sniper
shipmaster
stupid
stealthninja
senior
saxophone
call number for a ship EX:(ECHO)E-419
etc.
how ever, spartan is the most obvious choice, seeing as how they've got alot of them on the planet.

Bungie has been known to be deceiving, and make people think differently. They most likely want people to assume that Sierra is spartans, so they will be wrong once a true trailer comes out.

Or I could be wrong, but there's much more evidence supporting my theory.

1. why the hell would bungie make a game about the marines that defended the pillar of autumn?.. or any marines for that matter?

2. so what if they don't exist in the books, it's called a retcon, and it wouldn't be that much of a problem.

3. bungie has only used the sierra callsign for masterchief who was a spartan, so their is a high probability for it to be talking about spartans.

now shut up, stop trying to act smart, no one cares.

Beware the Llama...

Not saying anyone is right or wrong here but...

Phonetic Alphabet

Police and military personnel often use these standard words to represent letters during audio communications.
A
Alpha
B
Bravo
C
Charlie
D
Delta
E
Echo
F
Fox-trot
G
Golf
H
Hotel
I
India
J
Juliet
K
Kilo
L
Lima
M
Mike
N
November
O
Oscar
P
Papa
Q
Quebec
R
Romeo
S
Sierra
T
Tango
U
Uniform
V
Victor
W
Whiskey
X
X-ray
Y
Yankee
Z
Zulu

All of those are simply call signs so that over radio you can correctly identify what the speaker is trying to say. The high numbers do seem to suggest Pelicans to me (like Echo 419) but yes the Sierra tag could stand for Spartan. Everyone has to see though that you are all only speculating in the end. Even if one of you proves to be correct when the game drops as of now it is only speculation.

What the heck is wrong with you?

They have confirmed that you will be playing as a spartan. In a group of five spartans.

Do you seriously think that Bungie would be trying to waste their time tricking us into thinking that their names are Spartan 259 and Spartan 320?

I can just imagine the weekly update now...
"Suprise! Turns out that Sierra 259 and Sierra 320 are just pelicans and marine squads! But you are still playing as spartans. We sure fooled you! The revelation that the names of the spartans aren't actually what you thought they were sure is going to generate a lot of hype for this game!"

Not. Look, at the end of the trailer is a line said by Sierra (259?). Why would they end the trailer with some pelican operator or marine guy saying "We have spartans on the ground, and we aren't going anywhere." Don't you think the spartans are very well capable of announcing their own position and intentions? It makes much more sense for that Sierra to stand for spartan than some pelican or marine squad in that instance.

  • 10.20.2009 5:07 PM PDT

"When written in Chinese, the word 'crisis' is
composed of two characters--one represents danger,
and the other represents opportunity."
[JFK]

Also it seems that the sierra combat team was only one squad of marines. Squad in bold because the Sierra in the trailer refers to one person not one squad.

Sigh. I AM VERY AWARE THAT WE ARE PLAYING IN A SQUAD OF SPARTANS. I KNOW YOU'VE SEEN MY THREAD.

That's not what I was referring too. And I know you've participated in my thread, so I know you're aware that the whole "We" thing in the trailer has been discussed to death. If a marine was with a spartan, of course he would refer to it as "we" because he's with them. If you recall the original ODST teaser, the Main character was not in it. Just the SI.

It's possible that Sierra is spartans, but just because it's likely, doesn't mean it's true.
