Subject: Is it just me or do you hate it when people havent read the books?

i'm reading the books (very slowly) ive only read half of ghosts of onyx, but i know almost everything (halopedia is my friend)

but seriously, are you going to be heartbroken if bungie changes the story to be more to their original idea for the battle of reach?

some of the ideas on this forum are really good, but if good ideas are thrown out because of a small violation of cannon i will not be happy.

(also, most people don't have the time needed to stop and read a book.)

I hate when people make any kind of assumption about any game's plot. The "Sierra/Spartan" discussions are understandable. The topics asking what other people THINK the game is going to be about are also understanble. Topics saying "REECH IZ GUNNA B ABOT DA BUK BCUZ DAY R BOTH CULLD REECH LLOLOLOLOLLOLLOLLOLOLOLOOOLOLOLOLOL" are just uncalled for and stupid.

I've read the books and for me it feels kind of restricting. Sure the halo games have been pretty linear in terms of goals and overall story but the how it all gets done should be left kind of vague. Else the plotline gets all crappy with "oh, we can't do this because of this or that."

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

They didn't miss too much.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

Yes, I hate people who don't know any Halo lore or canon.

I really hate when people try to speculate about the story or plot of Halo games, especially Reach, when they havent read the novels. Its because they clutter the forums with stupid questions and ideas that can instantly be answered with the books. Anyway just feeling a little pissy right now. XD

i haven't read any of the books, i know this is the wrong place to say it, but it seems a bit nerdy to me. i have, however, read about the plots of these books from halopedia and the halo encylopedia (print), so i think that i am pretty well informed.

None of those are hard to fill in by yourself.
1. The timeline isn't linear. Surely Arbiter didn't spend time in teleportal state when Chief raided High Charity. Maybe Arbiter and the others left towards Earth before the Dreadnaught left High Charity. Plus Chief spent some time on the ship.

2. After the slipspace jump Brutes led by Truth arrived at Earth. There was a 6 hour break. Truth could have ordered his troops to arrive earlier as well.

3. Nearly? Maybe it took longer than expected to uncover the rest, maybe Truth didn't want to uncover it early...

Of course, the wide audience demands a book that explains everything. Then the book will be the only truth, which is... bad. Everyones' experience is exactly the same.

1. Forerunner ships are FASTER than Covie ships, and Johnson/Keyes/Arbiter were on DeltaHalo when Chief left with Truth. J/K/A would still have to travel through space, and somehow beat Chief to Earth.

2. I could understand brutes at night, as the rookie. But PLEASE, explain how the hell so many brutes were in new Mombasa directly after drop. (aka Buck's mission) Did a secret cruiser slip in and drop off the brutes than leave within the 45 seconds it took buck to land?

3. Give a good reason why Truth would want to wait.

To answer number 3 did you every think that he could of uncovered something else besides the Ark. At first I thought the ARK portal too because it seemed logical. But I noticed bungie always tries to create a shocking ending. I doubt they actualy shown something we already knew. And perhaps they knew that our previous knowledge of events would add to their clever deception.

You can look at that ending multiple times you can assume its the ARK portal but you cant say it is for sure. Only time will tell and maybe Reach will be more then what you think... Maybe we can have a plot start at reach with our new characters and jump later to after Halo 3 even.

If reach is the last halo games maybe more can happen then we think. Perhaps it can tie more threads together then we already know and assume from the novels and the games

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

i did not read the book but i did have enough common sense to look it up on HaloPedia =)

Read the Halo Literature, Soundtracks, and Other Media section at the bottom and you will see that just because the books say it, that doesn't mean that is what Bungie wants/wanted. Bungie can and should change anything that they want.

That's because they're pissed because they didn't think of it first

yes i understand that they can change things, but they really shouldnt do major things like bringing spartans back to life or anything like that. I would rather them follow the books, I think it adds depth and makes the games more interesting.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

I don't care about the book canon really. I would rather Reach ignore that and be a better game then be constrained by that.

I'm more of a multi-player fan, and if I'm going to read a book, it had better have some thematic elements etc, otherwise I'm not reading it.

  • 10.22.2009 8:12 PM PDT

the brilliance of games is that they don't have to follow the book to the T (if the game is book based). I for one don't have time to read the books but i still know a decent amount of info to get by. my point is stupid questions are annoying but some people can't help it, they just don't know so please help them out for god's sake!
Be sure to be blunt about it :0
Also i would be ticked if bungie couldn't be allowed to be creative in the gameplay. So be FREE bungie! BE FREE!

The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

what really pisses you off is when people believe that spartan 117 was the first spartan, and the last.

  • 10.22.2009 8:17 PM PDT

The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

ghosts of onyx is before Reach if im not mistaken. and 20 years after reach is around the end of halo 3 or later, i dont have books here to check but im sure that the glassing of reach was a week or two before the begining of combat evolved.

Yea i havn't read the books and i know that

I read Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike a long time ago. I can't remember what happened in them, but has Bungie confirmed that this game will be based on The Fall of Reach book?

sadly, if anyone here has read a manga, then watched the anime of it, there different and a complete disapointment when comparred to that of the manga, so if you have read F.O.R then theres a large possibility it wont reach your expectations.
