This isn't CoD. I'd much rather have different weapons for those things... If I want a Shotgun that shoots bubbles, I'd much rather have a Shotgun that only shoots bubbles lol

Shows how uneducated you are, you can't choose ammo types.

and to answer the OP's idea, sounds like a great idea actually, and I think I can think of a way to keep it uncluttered when someone dies.

it could say

Press RB to pick up (picture of Assault Rifle)Shredder

Nice.. but what if he had 2 types of ammo on him.

Maybe multiple ammo types for power weapons only. They arent overused and you take a risk when using them.. i.e. laser charge, long rocket reload time.. etc..

You could have several ammo types for these weapons so that they arent overpowering.

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

AP and HE rockets would be nice, and maybe Shredder rounds and Incendiaries for assault weapons. Tracer rounds would be a nice touch too.

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

Very interesting concept. I would really like any of the things that you mentioned (no offense, none of them really tickle my fancy), but perhaps a few different types of ammo here and there could spice things up a bit. The heat seeking rockets would be nice, but only if there aren't as many ways to kill vehicles as there are in Halo 3.

Im sure there will be new weapons to take out new vehicles, and possible new methods to take them out as well (setting traps and stuff like that). But I think this would add to the "fun" of the game. I LOVE grenade spamming.. its just what I do. So when Ive got multiple grenade types to choose from I get all gitty inside with joy and start lobbin'. I would love to have 2 or 3 types of ammo for a particular weapon so that, depending on which ammo I currently have, I will have to change my strategy up to make it work to my advantage.

It would make sense, since the Spartans in the book had shredder rounds, armor-piercing, etc.

I hope I didnt spoil anything.. Just think.. Its their brand new addition to Halo and Im sitting here like a goon getting everyone talking about it already.

Go easy on me Bungie.. Go easy..

What do the shredder rounds do.. (besides shred)? I mean what effect do they have in the book?

i.e. how are they different from regular rounds?

  • 10.21.2009 7:33 PM PDT

(;3=

hmmmm reminds me of Bioshock but who knows it might be cool making the game have a bit more variety to it

  • 10.21.2009 7:36 PM PDT

The shredder rounds shatter on impact and kinda just tear into things. If used on heavy or armor or shields they are ineffective but on soft things they are nasty.
Ill be that guy with a link. :P Shredder Rounds

Also shredder rounds are real good against hunters as there just a bunch of small organisms and have exposed soft spots.

I voted no, but I do like the idea. Hear me out.

The idea is awesome, but I don't think it would work. It just sounds like it would be kind of clunky. Now, not only do I have to look for good weapons, but I've got to find the right type of ammo for them. And, if I move into a new environment I might want to switch ammo types which requires me to either backtrack, or hunt down the new ammo in the current area where I've got less effective ammunition.

Do you do that for grenades? Do you track down certain grenades to use in certain situations, or do you just use what you come across... most likely the latter. Im proposing you do the same with these alternate ammo choices. None is more powerful than the other, they just would have their particular advantages/disadvantages.

i.e. explosive shotgun rounds would be great when approaching multiple players at the same time, but wont deliver the damage that regular ammo does to a single player up close.. just an example

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

The Brute Shot should fire different rounds based on which grenade type you have selected.

Concussion -> Frag grenades (normal brute shot grenades)
Plasma -> EMP (larger radius that damages shields mostly)
Spike -> Shaped Charge (anti-armor round that discharges spikes directly into whatever it impacts against)
Firebomb -> Incendiary Round (lights target on fire, with less damage over time)

Using the grenade type you have selected in your inventory also makes this idea controller friendly, by not requiring additional buttons.

Seeing how theres already so many weapons i dont see the point of multiple ammo types and it would just make the game too complicated. Multiple ammos work great in games like Deus Ex or Bioshock because they are neccessary on different targets, everything has there strengths and weaknesses and you usually cant win just by charging at something guns blazing.

On Halo the way to kill something is not to take cover, plan a stratergy, load up AP rounds and attack, but to spam grenades and rockets at something until it dies, weapons to destroy enemies that common weapons are ineffective against are usually everywhere anyway.

Multiple ammo would only be neccessary and would only work if the game were more RPG styled, and the majority of Halos fans are dumb kids and lonely 'mlg pros' living in their mothers basements drinking chocolate milk, who play Halo because its simple and because even they can be "good" at it would hate a game that required any thought other than knowing where the weapons are.

All in all i think it would be a good idea, but throwing new features at a game wont neccessarily make it better.

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

Tearing grunts apart with shredder rounds? Count me in!

If you were to actually implement it, then what do you expect to do for the forerunner and covenant weapons?

That is an interesting question. I'd like to point out that the plasma pistol has to projectiles already. The overcharge and the standard. One is slow and homing with a huge hit, while the other is fast and straight and weaker. I'm not sure the the hold to shoot would really apply to other Covie weapons, but it is similar to the Halo 2 rocket launcher as well.

Ladnil

Let me get this straight. You want there to be not only weapons lying around the map, but additional boxes of ammo that are only useful if you have the weapon to go with them?

Why wouldn't we just have different guns that do the different things that ammo types would do, instead of having to play scavenger hunt to make your gun useful?

  • 10.22.2009 2:13 AM PDT

Honestly this would make Game Play harder. Think about FFAs on Xbox Live. Usually there are certain times were most people run to one area over and over again cause thats where the action is, all the weapons get pilled up in a small area, and if there is a weapon you want there, its a pain to get. Now throw in all that ammo on top of the weapons and and it would take even more time.

No, the ammo wouldnt "fall out" of the guns and lay on the ground.. it would just be the gun laying there, with multiple ammo types in it already.

It wouldnt be any more of a "scavenger hunt" than it is right now when you look for weapons. You know where the sniper is, so you go straight to it. You would know where the particular ammo case, or cache, is that you wanted and you could go straight for that as well. All guns would start with standard ammo, but you could find that particular guns ammo cache to find alternate ammo if you wished.

Again this is just for some weapons.. not all

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Nah, that was a Perfect Dark thing.

Yeah this is what Im talking about.. but more than just the brute shot could have multiple ammo types.
