Let me get this straight. You want there to be not only weapons lying around the map, but additional boxes of ammo that are only useful if you have the weapon to go with them?

Why wouldn't we just have different guns that do the different things that ammo types would do, instead of having to play scavenger hunt to make your gun useful?

It wouldnt be any more of a "scavenger hunt" than it is right now when you look for weapons. You know where the sniper is, so you go straight to it. You would know where the particular ammo case, or cache, is that you wanted and you could go straight for that as well. All guns would start with standard ammo, but you could find that particular guns ammo cache to find alternate ammo if you wished.
It is doubling the requirement to go looking for a weapon. You can't just grab your gun and move on, you've got to grab your gun, then go to a completely different spot to get the best ammo for it. Wouldn't it be smoother and more fun to just go straight to the spot where the ammo would be in your idea, and have the right gun already sitting there?

Plus, only holding two guns at a time has been a staple of the Halo franchise since the beginning, and it is part of the strategy of the game. Having one gun be able to perform multiple functions via different ammo types completely invalidates having to choose only two.

the will to win is the will to destroy

well it would add actual tactics like takeing a guy one on one AP rounds, throwing a grenade in a room then sweeping them up shreder rounds

Ok let me clear a few things up here real quick. There isnt a "best" ammo for the gun. Is there a "best grenade"? Sure I like plasmas more than the rest but they all serve their purposes and have their advantages. You would NOT have to pick up a gun, then run somewhere else to get the best ammo for it. You would pick up the gun, based on the map/gametype youre playing on that gun would have a specific ammo with it. IF, and ONLY IF, you wanted a different (not better but different) type of ammo for that gun, there might be an ammo cache somewhere else (possibly midway through the map) where you could get that ammo. It wouldnt be better. Just different. The ammo you started with would work just as well but in regular battle situations as opposed to longer range/vehicle/or multi-enemy battles.

Also, holding two guns is not at all the staple of the Halo franchise. Did they say this? Is this fact? Or did you just think because theyve tried it, over and over and over again that it was their trademark? No one uses dual weilding.. It is useless. Having one gun that uses different ammo doesnt even have anything to do with this however. If they wanted to keep it, ok fine.. doesnt change anything. Im suggesting they add multiple ammo types so "some" weapons, i.e. weapons you can only single weild anyways.. (more powerful weapons).

Hope I cleared some things up here.

Grendae types = ammo types.. same cycle style.. they have different functions.. some work better in certain situations as others and vice versa

  • 10.22.2009 2:54 PM PDT

This could already be happening ya know..

  • 10.22.2009 5:50 PM PDT

If I had any dignity, that might have been degrading.

as long as the ar has shredder rounds, i will do it!(ever heard a grunt say that?)

If somebody's opinion is being smashed and nobody's helping, I try and help. I use logic and extensive vocabulary (and sometimes self-destructive circular reasoning) to confuse my enemies into submission. Fear me, trolling, fapping creatures of the night. For I. Am your worst nightmare.

Yeah Swift thats a good thought too. Like if we had an incidiary round for a weapon the EOD would take less damage because it is made for bomb squads.

ya, gotta know who you are...

One theory out right now is that Reach could be "Class" based. Think TF2 or something along those lines. As for alternate ammo, which ammo you choose could be an option given to you when you spawn. Use of the D-Pad could also be useful in fitting it in with the control scheme. 3 directions (excluding the top, mic button) for exchanging your ammunition on the fly. You could automatically pick up the different types of ammo like you do with ammo anyway.
It'd be tricky, makes me think of compulsive reloaders who get caught fumbling with their BR. You'd be vulnerable while changing out different kinds of ammo.

The other side of this though is that they already accomplish that with different kinds of weapons. Your two weapon limit could effectively become five or six when you throw in different kinds of ammunition. It would be quite a stretch to make it fit within what we have all come to know and love as Halo. I'm indifferent but I'm voting yes for the sake of someone with any real Dev experience getting a look at this idea.

Wise up, he's talking about the two weapon limit. He did not say dual wielding. The two weapon scheme is in fact a staple of this franchise. No one had to declare it in an official statement, it's just simple fact. It's the way they've been doing it since Halo CE.

No you wouldnt have to "change out ammo" you would just cycle through them like grenades. You dont have to pull different grenades out of your pocket when you select them.. you just click which ones you want, and use them. Same for ammo.

No, it would take away from the simplicity of Halo.

So what if we only had one grenade type.. and I suggested multiple grenade types.. would you have said the same thing?

Probably..

If halo ran of a magazine system it would work. and as far as balance goes it dose not have to be in MM. so i don't see why not have the option in campaign and custom games.

I would like some AP incendiary so my MA5 would actually do armor damage

left on D pad to cycle mags

I would like this; halo would run off a magazine system, so every time you reloaded you lost any remaining ammo in the Mag.

Ya, actually you do have to pull it out of your pocket. The MC isn't reaching down to scratch himself every time a grenade magically appears in his hand.
I can't figure out your angle on this. You ask for more different kinds of ammo, as if to make it more realistic. But then you ask for a magic gun, that can hold multiple clips of different kinds of ammo at the same time. I don't know if you noticed but my BR can only hold one clip at a time. Maybe in your world there are magic guns, but i always thought there was an amount of realism to this game.

I either think bungie stopped trying for any realism after Halo CE, that or Microsoft demands Bungie plays it safe, and just makes games that looks good in trailers; EX halo 3

Well, I'm not sure where you're coming from, but if you're talking about the animation. It's all for the sake of smooth gameplay. The more frames you have in a particular animation, the more complicated it is to network. I'd like to see the MC or a spartan wearing some gear. Like oh that pocket is where you are keeping your ammo, oh i see you have a couple of grenades on your belt.
It's not so much that they dropped realism, just that they are trying to be practical. -What makes a good gameplay experience
There's a lot of extra stuff that would be cool, but doesn't necessarily add anything to the gameplay.
If there is a way to add multiple ammo types to the game with out breaking it, then let them do it.

I should mention this before anyone reads this
I know Game-play > realism but i would like to see bungie try to make it a little more realistic. and there are realistic aspects that could make the Game funner. like the spiker ricochet of energy shields until depleted then spike pierces you, or bolting a jackal to the wall behind him with a cloud of spikes

I just did not like how halo 3 played
- all the UNMC Guns sounded like BB guns
- A grenade blows you off the map unless it dose not kill you and granted you are a 2 ton spartan
- the weapons that were not "HEAD SHOT CAPABLE" were porpose built bludgeoning tools
- Brute would be perfectly fine with being shot until the invisible health bar went away then he leaps in the air and dies, this is not just with head shots; and halo CE and 2 and elite would at least react to being shot
- the weapons stopped making sense Halo CE
--the BR for example--
the charging handle and breach is on the wrong side and not over the magazine, yet the bullets eject out of the right side, and there is no way that magazine fits 36 rounds

the AR in comparison BTW dose not reflect in gameplay
any way the AR is a brilliant weapon.
-it fires a 7.62x51mm roud so it would be effective at 600m and have the stopping power necessary to kill bigger enemies
-is a bull-pup so it would be balanced and not so cumbersome in tight quarters
- It could be built and work the bolt is above the magazine, the breach is universal so it could be a righty or lefty weapon.

I could go on but i would rather not.

There's a remedy to most of that, simple attention to detail. I don't think most of those changes would adversely effect gameplay. I think it'd be awesome to be able to headshot with the AR. I tap the trigger as it is, holding it down is inaccurate at range.
As for the Brutes they should weaken and slow the more bullets they have in them. Sure adrenalin explains a lot, but they didn't seem to be phased at all, when being shot. I think that is more of a character trait than anything.
And i'm not sure how many of the Bungie people really know guns. I wish the AR was louder and meaner. As for most else, they are things easily fixed, just needs some attention to detail.

Your idea just got a little bit more stupid, congrats. I, for one, am looking forward to having my AR go from good against shields to good against flesh instantly with the tap of a button. Sure sounds balanced and fun to me!
