Subject: Bungie should use CGI for cutscenes for Halo: Reach

If I had any dignity, that might have been degrading.

first off, i believe bungie could make their cutscenes 7 times better than that of halo wars, but it just wouldn't be halo. i actually enjoyed halo wars, but wish it was a fps. bungie using the same engine for cutscenes shows off the graphics. i personally, will probably like anything bungie makes. i think that they are going to have halo wars cutscene graphics in the intire game. maybe even seven times better.

This isn't Final Fantasy X.
The contrast between, gameplay and cutscenes would break the flow, they work so hard to establish.
"Oh, this movie is awesome."
"aww, it's over."
"This game looks like crap."
"Why can't it look like that all of the time"
"Bungie, you really need to step up your engine"

See what happens there? Having a cutscene in CGI takes away. It's distracting. You're jumping in and out of cutscenes instead of being a part of what's going on. The cutscenes and the game become two completely seperate things.
Bad idea.

JUST LIKE WITH HALO WARS:
WOOHOO
*SIGH*
WOOHOO
*SIGH*
WOOHOO
*SIGH*
WOOHOO
*SIGH*
WOOHOO
*SIGH*
WOOHOO

WOOHOO

AND SO ON
i hope halo wars 2 is better...

I hope it's non-existent...

For sure

I'm not sure we'll have to worry about that though, Ensemble has closed down.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Apparently no one knows the definition of CGI but, whatever.

I despise the use of hi-res movies for cinematics for several reasons. One is that they take the player out of the game. That's one things that games like Half-Life are praised for. Another is the size of these videos. They take up a lot of disc space and don't leave a lot of room for everything else. Finally, they limit creativity. Look at Halo 2, for instance. What ever weapon the Chief or Aribitor was carrying at the end of the level they would be carrying in the cinematic. Stuff like that cannot be done with hi-res, pre-rendered vids.
