Subject: flame thrower

i think in halo: reach we should be able to use the flame thrower (if there is one) in first person and move at normal speed. the flame thrower would be changed from slow, power weapon to fast, weak, spam weapon. i think this would significantly increase the flame throwers "funness" as a weapon.

also i think it would be cool if there were "flamer tanks," tanks that have a powerful and longer range flame thrower.

play team fortress 2 as the pyro and youll realize how fun it is to use a flame thrower.

Exalted is considered "the highest" because you can't get any bans or warnings of any kind for quite a long time, which is harder than just being a member for a long time.

Fire is definitely fun! I think that's why they included it in the game.

The reason why they made the character slower is to balance matchmaking (as far as I know). I agree with anything that will balance out the competitive aspects of the game.

I'm sure there will be an inclusion of some fire weapons - hopefully they'll improve enough to be included in matchmaking.

Use firebomb grenades if you like fire.

Yes it is spelt like that on purpose.

As long as they can make it so the lag dosen't make it useless in matchmaking, then I would be satisfied.

Considering the flame thrower has the uncanny ability to burn you to death after you recieve but a single blast (power shields and all), I see no need to make it easier to use. In the right situation that thing is a monster, if anything changing the maps in which it is implemented will bolster it's effectivness better than an actual tweak to how it handles.

I think that you should carry the flamethrower in first-person, and you should be able to reload it, like in Halo: PC, and the range should be significantly increased. Modern flamethrowers can easily reach ranges of up to 100 metres, while the Halo 3 has a range of 13,7 metres, and real flamethrowers weigh half as much as the Halo 3 flamethrower.

Not to mention that that's a modern flamethrower and this is supposed to be way down the road.

i did mention my the op (does op mean original post? i think it does) that the faster version of the flame thrower would be weak. it would be more of a spam weapon.

imagine your on construct and you grab the flame thrower and go up yellow grav lift. you run in, harass the enemy with some fire for a few seconds and then run away. the current version isnt really like that. its powerful, but its slow and short range. you would most likely get frag/br'ed to death before you could use it effectively.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I don't mind the flamethrower like it was in ODST (It actually MASSACRED Covenant)

Thus rendering it semi-useless? Sorry, there are enough weapons like that in the current structure. If it's built into the weapon set to function like that with some balance, I would fear to see what the other weapons are.

i dont know. go play team fortress 2 and play as pyro and then you will know what i invision for the flame thrower.

now he fights and loses
got all the bruises
will someone please step in?

flamethrower works as is, however i would like to see more implementation of firebomb grenades in matchmaking (a.e. at least one map with them!) Furthermore, it would be interesting to see more maps like heretic, where you don't spawn with frags but a different grenade instead.

Stop PMing me if you are group recruiting.

I think the flamethrower should be a hybrid of Gears of War's and CoD: WaW. It has some decent range but overheats quickly and runs out of "ammo" pretty quick. It should make you just as slow, but a little bit better jet of fire. It's a flameTHROWER, not a flameTOSSER.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

I agree. The flamethrower was not very powerful in Halo 3. You are weaker using the flamethrower then when using the Assault Rifle.

The flamethrower is not stronger then the Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Spartan Laser, etc. Yet for some reason despite only one being on the map you are slowed down and in third person.

I think all third person weapons should be full speed. The flamethrower should become first person however.

I think there should be a flame thrower but i dont think it should have any effect on spartan.

Just from what i seen in the games; a spartan could deal with the Temperature extremes in space. and re-enter atmosphere.
so unless the flames thrower shoots "crazy super acidic thermite super doom" i don't see why it would effect a spartan

  • 10.22.2009 8:27 PM PDT

a flame thrower not having an effect on a spartan. thats getting to technical and gets in the way of gameplay. if you wanna be technical you could say that the mjolnir project was complete failure because any rebel "sharpshooter" could take out a spartan.

how is a more flame thrower not sticking with the basics? i think it could be a really cool weapon that fits halos style

  • 10.22.2009 8:34 PM PDT

I would expect the flamethrower in Reach just because it's fun to flame!:)
the tank idea is kinda a bummer but that's just me since the scorpion is fine as it is
You should be able to be more mobile like in odst with the turrets and Flamethrower

It would cook them inside their armor. Like napalm against tanks. The liquid would be sticky or water-resistant, so you can't really get rid of it.

On the subject, I'd love a flamethrower that doesn't make me go to third person and move really slow, because I love Halo 3 fire, and I was sadfaced when I realized the flamethrower is pretty light in Matchmaking.

That wouldnt work. Watch the first cut scene in Halo 3 for proofz. Even tho we already go against the first cut scene... lol

I agree that the flamethrower should have better range than the Halo 3 version, but do less damage, and not take you into third person.

Im not sure i think the flame thrower is balanced in halo 3 having an increased speed might ruin it and make it OP but what ever i will love the Flame thrower any way cause i like burning BKs hahaha

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

It should be less damaging, and more damage over time.
