Just an idea, but what if Reach adopted some of the concepts of SW: The Force Unleashed and Fracture for their environments? Like a grenade will actually displace some dirt and make a very small crater in the ground instead of just a visual texture, or take actual chunks out of walls and maybe make small holes to see through. Cut down small trees with energy swords, or have collapsing catwalks. small things like that. nothing big or featured like Fracture does it, just real subtle things that can maybe be adapted by skilled players for a strategy. Maybe even bigger things, like shooting a rocket at billboards or overhanging rocks to knock them down, or knocking down small walls with gravity hammers. This might be something to put in only campaign, or also multiplayer. What are your thoughts?

Another possibility is environment changes during multiplayer. Maybe it's a sunny day, then way off in the distance beyond there's a huge explosion which kicks up dust towards the map and changes visibility.

This could also eliminate camping in multiplayer. Blow a wall down and it could change the flow of the map completely, it would be difficult for campers to stay put the whole game and if there were campers, they'd have to find spots on the go, instead of knowing where they are in each map

The idea would maybe come together like this: Picture ghost town as being the map when the games over. Then picture ghost town without all walls blown to pieces as the map before the game starts. The destruction would progress with the game and keep the game changing and keep players on their toes.

Yes, destructible environments are always fun.

  • 10.22.2009 7:33 PM PDT

It would be fun to a certain extent. Destructive environments like RF:G ruin gameplay experience IMO.

-I was here

yeah, i would like to see more destructible environments, just not too much.

If you've got an idea for a gametype or map for Halo Reach matchmaking, or you simply want to help other people get their ideas fully realized, then join The Guardianz!

Yeah it would be nice

i posted this a while ago; i beleve this could work if done right.

--Spiker--
The only thing that captured how terrifying spikers should be was the Halo Landfall video. i think it would be cool if you could bolt some poor jackal to a wall behind him.

and with energy shields i don't like how the spike still pierces you even with you sheild up and you take no armor damage so here is a solotion

have spike ricochet and bounce of energy shields. it would look awesome. and make the Spike do continuous damage if pierced

--Plasma--
the only thin that captured how devastating plasma should be was Halo CE and the Book. so when plasma bolts hit Concrete and steal it think it should stick there for a while and let off a lot of sparks and smoke, and be very bright. very similar the light a welder gives off

-semi destroyable structures-
almost everything in the Halo universe is made of better materials than we have to day. how ever i would like to be able to driver trough walls with a warthog, and blow holes out with the rocket launcher. but the structure remains sturdy

--Bullet Holes--
I would like to see bullets be able to penetrate weak materials. like thin metal and thin concrete. i find it annoying when a peace of 1/4 inch rust sheet iron save someone from a future equivalent of a berret fifty

"I believe that the sound of racking the pump of a shotgun is universally recognized as ‘kiss your ass goodbye’."

yes that way each game is unique not only in gameplay but the scars on the battle field

i agree, as long as its done properly. i love the concept of making a perfect sniper perch though. imgaing theres this tall building and you could blast a hole in the wall so you can shoot with the sniper up there.

I like the idea of plasma burning through a little bit. I also liked in the Halo Wars videos how when a marine got hit with plasma, he would fall, but the plasma would float a little before disappearing

Stop PMing me if you are group recruiting.

Destructible environments should be a major factor in Reach. Both faction's weapons have devastating effects.

Needler and Spikers are good as they are since they stick in surfaces like they should. Sticking an enemy to a wall with a Spiker isn't a bad idea either.

Explosive weapons should be a lot more destructive to the environments. After I pwn a Grunt with a Rocket Launcher, I want to see a crater, not just a black scorch mark. Same goes for the Brute Shot, grenades, Gauss Gun, and missiles.

Plasma weapons should leave a "glassy" shine to the impacted surface after it dissipates.

Trees, concrete, glass, steel, grass, and other objects should be a lot more interact-able. In the Haloverse, they may be able to manufacture large panes of glass for ships that withstand the vacuum of space, but why would they make the same for on planet? I'd love to shoot something in the head with a sniper rifle through a window.

I agree that they should use several of the engines used in The Force Unleashed for the environment, and maybe even how the enemies react with one another.

I agree. RF: G's environment was way too destructable. I'd like small things where a grenade could blow a small hole in it but nothing drastic. just subtle.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

Lets keep in mind we don't want too much lag etc. Destructible environments come at a cost.

I think they should do what MW2 seems to be doing. Make it so that certain objects blow up and some bullets can go through walls. But don't make them entirely destructible. For example you could shoot through glass planes, and make small craters etc. But you can't take down buildings and blast holes in walls.

I'd like to see them do as much as they can do, without creating too much lag. And one grenade wouldn't blow up a wall, it would be a slow process. The battle would wear away the map slowly, you might not even notice. You wouldn't have tons of chunks of walls flying all over the place though.

Some things should be destructible, but not "Let's level the map!" extent. Maybe chip away at walls, make craters, and blow up wooden or concrete walls, but no RF:G style total map destruction.

The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

red faction + mirrors edge + halo = best game ever?

Or maybe the map could be leveled, but never even close in a multiplayer match. Like I've said, no one event will cause a mjor change in the map, it will all be gradual. The longer the game lasts, the more scars it gets. but even in a big team battle match, the map won't be 'too' deformed. Much of it will just be the visuals like bullet holes, and maybe if some people get grenade happy on one spot, a hole forms in a wall. But no collapsing buildings or leveling of the map

That might work, but it'd need some serious internet umph to not lag like heck once enough damage gets applied, unless every possible bullet hole and explosion is scripted.

They could play test it, and script all the major ones. Like if there's a chokepoint in a map, they could script it there because that's where most of the fighting will be
