i r cool.

Just an idea i thought of in my other thread. You know those huge explosions on the planet in the teaser trailer? What if at a random moment during a multiplayer match you see one of those in the distance? But you not only see it, it affects the game slightly. It could kick up dust and change the weather on the map. Any other ideas on how this concept could be implemented in multiplayer? It wouldn't dramatically change the game, it'd just be kinda cool so you feel like the battle is going somewhere, besides the numbers on the scoreboard.

Think of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where there's all that stuff in the background, but it wouldn't change the game much more than the visuals.

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

I'd like dynamic weather, where it randomly rains or snows and such. Also it'd be cool to get Covie ships overhead on some maps.

I'm xAssault12x, and I love the Halo Universe. Discussion please!

Gears of War 2 sort of hit at this a little with their maps that change during a game.

I think an outside influence would be cool. That and weather effects. There is a thread about weather effect already though.

This is a good idea. A way this could work ould be like on Valhala. Imagine that at the top of the waterfall is a small lake. What if, instead of there just being a crashed Pelican on the map, that Pelican crashes into the top of the waterfall and then swings around the cliff and crashes where it is now. The top of cliff by the waterfall breaks off and unleashes a mass amount of water that poures onto the map and sweeps away anyone or anything caught in its path. Thing like that would be cool.

What if during a match on assembly one of the Scarabs getting built falls onto the map? It now adds an obstruction but also a new part to the map as well. You could climb into the scarab hulk and shoot out of it or use it as cover.

Perhaps on standoff one of those missiles droppes close and detonates. If it was a nuke then all of the sudden a massive boom and blast of blinding light then the shock wave hits a little bit later and the emp screws with vehicles and your hud for a little bit.

This is an interesting idea but a nightmare for programers and might cause a lot of lag. Still cool though.

That idea, but maybe not even things that affect the map that much. Just cool visuals and slight effects to lighting or weather.

My third montage!

Better yet, on standoff what if at a random time one of the missile silos open and the missile launches. The smoke from the exhaust would cover the battle field until it cleared and top of that the empty missile silo now causes a falling hazard to players on foot or in a vehicle.

These are all great ideas it's just the lag these types of visual create that kill them.

Don't hate... ...loathe.

I believe in Highgrounds early iterations there were random factors like D-dayish shelling at the beach from the fort wall for defend the fort type games.

I wouldn't be supprised if they were thinking of this for Reach.

I like it, both as a visual influence and as a random physical ocurance such as the bullet train in Halo 2.

How about pieces of an orbital lift falling to create detroy certian paths. 2 to 4 pre-determined locations at random, random to the point where they could all occur or not occur at all. To make lag not an issue have everything determined before the start of the game.

Edit: Typos

That would be awsome,
on the back ground UNSC and Covenant ships fightning at each other, that would be nice ^^
Or if you do: Assault, the enemy team can spawn in an covenant Cruiser and must defent it against the team that must plant the bomb in the cruiser, and if the bomb is armed and detonated, the cruiser can explode! that would be nice (=

Yeah that would be interesting. However, I would find it a little distracting.

Steven

I really like these kinds of ideas. Anything to make the map feel more alive. You know that part on Tsavo Highway when the covi ship flies just overhead, I think they could use things like that on multiplayer maps. Or on Rats Nest, maybe pelicans could be constantly taking off and landing on the pad outside. It maybe a technical challenge but I'd really love to see entire battles happening just above the boundry of the map. Several covie cruisers facing off against longswords and such. Maybe ships crashing to the ground in the distance.
