Here are just some of my ideas:
I think that the suit damage is an excellent idea, and the longer you are able to survive, the more damage you have. At the end of the game, you could actually tell who was alive and in combat the most by seeing the damage on their suits.
Better punch mechanics would be nice, if it didn't interfere with the gameplay. The Halo franchise is notorious for having a lot of enemies doing something over a large space, so adding some new distraction like punch mechanics might also screw with the game's lag and playability. If Bungie can figure out a way for it to look nice AND keep the game running smoothly, I'm on board.
Jumping mechanics, again, need to not interfere with the game itself. Marines in the Halo games are able to climb (example: On Crow's Nest, Marines will climb on top of crates to get a better vantage point, while you jump 50 feet in the air (exaggeration) to clear the crate wearing a suit that weighs a couple tons. Gravity still applies.
Getting stunned by certain guns would turn this game into a CoD or GoW type of game (CoD: Stun Grenade and GoW Smoke/Explosive grenades and weapon stopping power). The only gun that should even have something close to this description should be the Plasma Pistol that eats through shields. Ripping a turret should also provide some stun effect so the turret user cannot instantly become this walking tank of bullet shells.
Since this is supposed to happen BEFORE Master Chief gets his Armor Upgraded to the beast it is now, with a large shield and quick recovery rate, there should be less shields and the Health system re-introduced to make this tactical, not luck of the draw. Also, when you lose your shields, you should start to lose chunks of armor the more you are shot (losing a shoulder piece if a Carbine or BR hits it after shield lose). This would make it so if a team is going against a guy who is MLG Pro, they could still stand a chance because the more chunks of armor he loses, the longer it takes for his shields to recover.
This is just my opinion. What do you guys think?
