I don't know. It wouldn't really make sense if there's a cutscene in CGI and then everything looks different and you're on the ground.
That works fine in games like Halo Wars (Where the cutscenes were the best part) but FPS games should be done in engine just to make sense.
Agreed. In game cut scenes are the way to go with a FPS. The smooth transitions don't take you far out of the action. What does need to be fixed is the bouncy animations. I admire doing the animations that way, but something has to be done with the bouncy look.
The cutscenes in Halo Wars, were the best in the whole halo series, but i agree; FPS cutscenes should be done in the games engine, but need to be made more smoothly.
You talk about smoothly, the whole idea for keeping it in engine is for flow.

This isn't Final Fantasy X.
The contrast between, gameplay and cutscenes would break the flow, they work so hard to establish.
"Oh, this movie is awesome."
"aww, it's over."
"This game looks like crap."
"Why can't it look like that all of the time"
"Bungie, you really need to step up your engine"
See what happens there? Having a cutscene in CGI takes away. It's distracting. You're jumping in and out of cutscenes instead of being a part of what's going on. The cutscenes and the game become two completely seperate things.
Bad idea.
I know that keeping them in the games engine is supposed to make things 'flow' better, but maybe they should be pre rendered scenes using the games engine, that way you could add heaps of detail, using only the games engine; which would give off a nice clean look
