If you have a complaint about the game, just take a step back and remeber how lucky you really are to even be in possesion of it when compared to the millions of people suffering around the world with not even a roof over their heads.

It seems to me that the general consensus is that class based multiplayer is a good thing - you can't really get a more tailored experience in an FPS than being able to pick your poison. Games like CoD 4/5 have shown empirically that given the choice, gamers will not all use the same weapon - simple, its called being human; you have preferences, you can't help it. Certainly, the raging debate between AR and BR starts proves that Halo fans are no exception to this rule. So why isn't it obvious, why haven't Bungie done it yet? The answer: Halo is a competitive game. People care about fairness in Halo, dammit they will argue the toss about hitbox size differences of a few inches, can you imagine the furore amongst the Halo hardcore if they thought that there were some way in which an opponent could gain an upper hand on them from the get go without them being able to do something about it? Well, I'll say right now, I am amongst those guys and I can tell the furore would be unimaginable.
However, if class based multiplayer was taking place in an unranked environment, surely those who care so dearly about fairness (that is, those same people who care about rank) would have nothing to worry about. I think so.
In this situation, the animal urge for a level playing field would be satisfied in the environment where it is strongest, without compromising the ability of people to stick to their preferences. In this situation, everyone gets what they want.

Isn't that the goal?

i reckon it would be better on ranked games, leaving people to mess around with the less serious "run around picking up guns and using them" in social. while i would like classes,i dont think it would work unless you can turn it off, as it would make lots of custom games fail, as well as lots of forge maps

I will ignore the first response completely because it is not worthy of dignification. But ubercrow, yes, why not? It could just as easily be an option in custom games. However I wouldn't like classes to be in ranked, for reasons which I outlined in the OP.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

NO classes.

If you read this, you've wasted a few seconds of your life.

Perhaps, if you go to the matchmakinglobby, you can chose between classes and classic(wath we have right now). There will be the same playlist in both options and you can also chose between ranked and social.

Signatures are for squares.

-NO-
-CLASSES-
-EVER-

This is Halo. It has ALWAYS been about run n gun shooting, even starts equal. It's more skill and team oriented, because you need to get map control, and hold it down in order to win.

Additionally, Bungie would have to completely redesign Halo's weapons. Otherwise they wouldn't be balanced. A class that would start with Rockets or Sniper, would dominate a class that starts with an SMG or AR.

Also, how many games now a day's are class based. Look at rainbow six, call of duty, battlefield, team fortress, etc... But how many games are like Halo? Everyone starts equal then finds the power weapons. Sure, people can get bored of Halo, then you play a class game until you get bored of those. Then you go back to Halo. So you're getting different kinds of gameplay. But what happens when there's ONLY class based games. Everyone would get bored much faster.

There's a reason why everyone goes back to Halo.
