Who cares what MLG players think. A game is made to be fun not hardcore and competitive. A game is made for people to have fun and enjoy themselves, not b1tch about BR spread.

And many of those people enjoy competition which is why they play MLG. Who are you to say their way of playing isn't fun?

I don't play MLG much, but I do like the settings and simply generalizing their entire fan base as people who whine about the BR spread is very ignorant and very unfair.

I think the problem lies more within the MLG part of the community rather than the B.Net.

I'm sorry if that sounds negative to MLG fans, but it's still true. There are many MLG wannabes (I'm refering to the loudmouths that make up the steriotype of MLG players being elitist -blam!-s) that constantly "demand" things. Whether it's taking Elites out of SWAT, nerfing/removing the AR, increasing the amount of MLG maps, improving the BR (which I think is overpowered enough, in my opinion), or having a seperate matchmaking playlist away from players aged below 18 (Which is offensive to me, since I'm fifteen and probably a lot more mature than a lot of people in their mid-twenties) they just never seem to be happy with the game.

Now, there are probably tonnes of people from the MLG community that are fine with Halo 3, play the MLG playlist, maybe jump over to do other things, and I'm cool with them. However, the jackasses "representing" the MLG community used to make me think that everyone in MLG would strangle a kitten to make themselves play better (Which is untrue, thanks to people like the OP) have the loudest mouths and are the ones that the Bnet community identifies as "MLG."

Many of the people you describe are wannabe's not true MLG fans and it really isn't fair to associate them with MLG. The people that actually play MLG don't care about SWAT, that is just some jackass idiots giving that impression.

There really should be no division as both communities are Halo fans, but if they are divided it should be MLG fans, more casual fans, and idiots. They deserve their own category and should not be attributed to either group.

TO ALL "CASUAL" PLAYERS:

Being competitive may not be fun to you, but it's fun to others. You prefer infection customs. We prefer MLG FFAs.
That's true, but there are still MLG players that ask of Bungie that are trying to eliminate things (Like Elites in SWAT and the AR) that "ruin" their fun. All of this? It's a War over fun.

I'll tell you right now that it's not only MLG players that want Elites in SWAT removed. And as far as the AR goes, it's a retarded weapon that discourages certain gameplay styles that should be promoted.

  • 10.24.2009 9:17 PM PDT

Do you really care? you can't automatically see my signature anyway.

OP while your efforts are noble, they are completely pointless nothing is going to get solved in this forum, your just gonna attract jerks like me and reinforce the stereotypes of both communities. That being said MLG can !@^*&$)(*&$#_)(*&#&*@(). I thought that was more imaginative now it can say anything offensive or it could be possitive. optimism pass it on.

the ar is a more versatile gun because allows new players start to apply to better things
and why the ar is useless and just messes you the game up
thats kinda selfish i enjoy killing with the br but still i want it removed from reach cause its overwhelming
being serious is easy to kill with it once you dominate it

ar is noobish and stuff but they are players that afford to 4 shot other people thats why the ar exists it doesnt destroys the gameplay as you say it makes it easier to new and less skilled players
you are selfish at all saying that it should be removed
one guy said that if they include more editing options the game will apply to mlg and the casual players
i think that that is the closest to an average game both communities want

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

Isn't Bungie's catchphrase "We make games WE like to play"? If that's the case, Bungie will make the games THEY LIKE TO PLAY, with some fan feedback. I'm sure MLG will be a part of that feedback, but the majority of posts are admittedly more centered around "IF BUNGIE TAKES THE BR OUT MLG WILL BURN THE STUDIO DOWN ROXXOR OMG" which isn't constructive in the least.

While I have to agree with you BK Burger Boy (Fantastic name Btw), I do share similar sentiments with Tucker. I don't think Bungie should fall down to the needs of MLG but this 'war' between the more casual community, which Bungie no doubt favors, and the more competitive MLG Community has to stop. If Bungie puts in even more effort than they already do, the implementation of enough options should be sufficient for 'peace'.

Customization is the key. Halo 3 raised the bar for things like that. If Reach can beat that and widen the level and depth, I'm sure both communities can find good things out of them.

I agree with the OP. People should stop fighting with each other and thinking so close minded. There are ways to make a game that appeals to both competitive and casual players. Bungie has felt the need to make their games more and more casual. This can be seen if you look at how powerful the competitive weapons have been from Halo CE to Halo 3. Halo CE pistol was ridiculously strong and the Halo 3 BR is relatively weak by comparison.

It is fine by me if Halo Reach is more casually geared as long as their are more options to customize it for competitive play. Things like: adjusting accuracy on guns, range, making weapons hitscan (or increasing bullet velocity). Any one of those options would be great for competitive play and would have no negative impact on casual players.

People need to stop thinking in terms of remove this weapon or nerf that weapon. Instead there should be more threads about adding this feature or giving more options. More options means more ways to play the game. More ways to play the game means more gaming niches are improved.

javelin

This game is about having fun. The MLG players have fun but they are just more competitave. No one would play the game if they didn't have fun doing it. different people just have different preferences of gameplay. Competetive or casual.

Good job advancing the stereotype even more. Why can't Halo be both? I don't play "competitively" but I do believe that halo can appeal to both. MLG is just another way to play halo. Did you ever consider that for "hardcore" players that competing and winning is fun for them?

Because MLG will be in Reach.

We might as well as try to stop the unstoppable, right?

  • 10.24.2009 10:45 PM PDT

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

It's in Bungie's best interest to appeal to the wider audience instead of a smaller, so called more dedicated one. And if that doesn't happen, there are plenty of other games out there. And I hate to say this, but most if not a very large portion of MLG players are whiny self-entitled brats, and quite frankly I think we're better off without them. Sorry to the ones who aren't. Plus there's always custom games.

I agree, people should not bash other communities for having different opinions about a game. Most stuff MLG players are asking for are in the custom games options, stuff like adjustable bullet spread, mannual host assignation, remove the auto-aim on the rocket launcher etc. Most of our demands would not affect the casual community and vice versa. The key to our happyness is giving all of us as much options as possible.

Stop the hate, love the game!

I am well aware that this debate will never truly be solved and such posts have arose in the past. Also this is not a post focusing on bungie itself taking notice of the MLG community. This post is made in order to try to help the two communities come together and not spew hate about one another as commonly happens. Both sides are guilty of this, I will admit that I have been guilty of this; however, the quintessential argument I am making is to at least act diplomatically to one another.

Consider me a pessimist, but I believe the only true way to stop the stereotypes and hate between these two communities is for Bungie to stop making games. You can't stop human nature.

words spoken so true

  • 10.24.2009 10:55 PM PDT

Honestly this War may never stop becasue the casual community will always bash competitive players. The Casual community has really been catered by bungie, they are really being hypocritcal. They have all these playlist, all these events, and want more. The MLG community, we have one playlist, and are supported at events by bungie. Then the Casual community says Bungie and The MLG community are butt buddies. The MLG community doesnt want more we want to improve things so our competitive experince is better and way more competitive. It will not interfere with your Casual experince but may benefit it. The main probelm of it all is that honestly this my opinion, the Casual community has a Blind eye.

Reach honestly needs to be the Hardcore multiplayer experince and not cater to the casual player. Im both a Casual and competitve player. The Casual player has Firefight, let the Competitive players have matchmaking.

I agree it needs to stop but the Bungie forums need to have more vaild points, i mean by that because there is alot of people who have no knowledge what they are talking about.

I have to be straight up here Ive been discourage to join or play MLG for the fact that everyone that Ive met who claims to be MLG worthy think they are better than everyone else online. They just get too into themselves and I wouldn't want to become that. I think most people in MLG are very unprofessional for most just talk crap all the time and that takes out my respect for many MLGs.

TBH,if bungie wanted the game to be "fun" they would have done A LOT more to/with it... I'm an MLG player and I believe the game should be catered to the more skilled players (etc. H:CE and Reach) but really, is all the MLG bashing necessary? MLG promotes bungie as much as possible and all you guys do is flame it. With threads such as "remove the BR!" and by saying Rippinheads is even remotely close to being the best Halo player... (ewww Right?)

There are a lot of problems with Halo 3 and instead of you guys admitting it like you should be... You praise bungie even more. Bungie should just take notes from Shadowrun (a FAR superior game) and do something right... make it fun and competitive

Be honest with me Bnet kids (no offense), but if the game was catered to competitive players, would it even phase you guys? NO, it wouldn't... you guys wouldn't notice.. or care. If you guys really want to have fun like you claim, you would find a way to have fun... nobody has fun with an AR or spiker... or shotgun, or the hammer... if they do then they're honestly stupid. People who use those weapons just want to win the easiest way possible with no skill involved.

If you guys are really "casual" just add 100 people to your list and play custom customs not MM, because there is this little thing called a "Truskill system"

In conclusion to my rant

Bnet Kids stick to social or quit bashing the competitive crowd

and bungie should address the whole community or just stop making games period.

Haha i think its the opposite
i go into social.. i get team killed for weapons, i get asked if i bought my acc, MLG players are -blam!-s, i can go on and on

Theres a difference for being told you suck then being team killed, humped, and being told you suck while the person who killed you cant get a headshot to save his life.

First off, ShadowRun was terrible. Just my opinion.

Second, doesn't it take skill to know which weapon to use at which time in order for a kill to be assured instead of martyring yourself to using the weapon that requires more "skill?"

The majority of Halo players are of the so called casual variety therefore it is only longical that the majority should dominate the playlists and the minority should have one or two playlists and all the super awesome stuff you can make in custom games. Like I said, whiny, self-entitled brats. And once again I don't like to ball everyone into this category but honestly most MLG players are.

Hmmm all this brings me to a question who is MLG who is worthy who isnt how do you define some one who is MLG or is it who every slaps that title on to themselves.

  • 10.24.2009 11:44 PM PDT

My opinion on the matter.
The mlg players do not want a game completly catered to them (ok they do but they know halo will never become that) what they want is a game that is not broken, which the bungie.net posters in general are unintentionally protesting for when they will never even notice the difference if bungie didnt have it in thier weekly updates.
The bnet community finds the br overpowered. what does bungie do? They create a spread which nerfs the weapon. Honestly maybe 5% of people who post on here would of actually realized something changed if bungie didnt mention it while the mlg people still would of been mad. What happens is that they piss off the competitive community and the bnet people still -blam!- about it being overpowered.
Farther into the past the bungie community -blam!-es and moans about button glitches in halo 2, something that hardly happened to them in the first place. Instead of trying to learn they -blam!-. What happens? they piss the mlg community off and take something out that I believe was intentional because it had been around since halo CE in different forms.
Into the future the bnet community has recently had some complaints against flag running something which has been around since halo CE. If bungie takes it out of reach guess what's gonna happen?
Anybody notice a pattern here?
