Seeing as how I had a lot of free time on this vacation of mine, I thought I'd ruin it by taking on something few have dared: make a benchmark for the past two generations of graphics cards, comparing them side by side on a grand scale. From 9500 to X850XT PE, Ti 4200 8X to 6800 Ultra, you'll see the naked truth: how all the graphics cards rank up.

You can see the graph and check out each GPU's specs here

This was calculated by averaging benchmarks from Half Life 2, Doom 3, and Unreal Tournament 2004. These were all via the same setup for PCI-e and the same setup for AGP. The setups were very similar for the two platforms. This is all derived from Toms' Hardware benchmarks. Also, this sin't exact and right on, but very accurate, as accurate as I could get.
[Message to mods] - Please do not consider this an advert. You can't really post images here, so I just linked it to the site I hosted it on.

What follows is a spec sheet of all major GPU's along with their rating. Enjoy.

Hmm, I haven't added it yet because we only have one GPU from the 2nd gen cards - once more come in from both manufacturers I'll add them. Have you just copied and pasted that same thing everywhere?

Yeah, real speeds differ a bit. Mine fluctuate 3-4MHz.

Lol - the site - its a template, I just needed something elegant to go with the text. I've been away from my main pc. Right now I'm on an old P3 laptop. Couldn't run Photoshop if I tried :S

Oh dear people you disapoibt me. If you go on alien ware and look at the best computer (ALX) in it you can have dual 512 mb nvidia graphics cards. Beat that, and no i dont have it. But it should be awesome.

The 512MB cards show little to no performance increase over a 256MB card. You can see it in the ATi version, and if I have time I'll fish it out for the nVidia version. Rest assured, it's a gimmick to get you to fork over $200+ more per card. That's what I call a disappointment. It's a complete waste - as is Alienware.

Build your own better and with your own hands and direction, for cheaper. Manufactured pc's will never do it for you once you make one...

a bit? there's a freaking 200+Mhz. difference in the memory speed for x300se! i hope the person that made that chart is a total moron.

seeing how the x300se fares against the other cards makes me sad.

The X300SE has 400MHz memory - whatever program you've used to monitor it, it does not read it as DDR - which is what I used in the chart. If I don't set ATi Tray Tools to 'DDR' on the memory overclocking, I get a stock reading of 540, instead of what it really is at stock, 1080. DDR specs are the standard. Just look at these sites and their X300SE descriptions:

Newegg doesn't lie, either

I made all of that. The specs, the graph, the whole thing. I guess that makes me a moron.

either i'm reading the wrong clock for my card, or dell ripped me off in the vid card department. i use ati catalyst control center to see all my specs and riva tuner to overlclock. i can't get a mem. speed past 230 Mhz without it starting to bug on me. i take back the moron insult.
