I like that he has somewhat of an identity. I like it better this way. Master Chief is something that I wish I could aspire to be... a BMF. Hes not like Kratos, he wears a mask. They definitely give this character a good amount of mystique. To me halo is a story to be told. Not just of the rings but of the man you are playing. Yes Chief isn't emotional on the surface but reading the book it gave him layers. Him saving Cortana had a real personal feel to it. I remember getting goose bumps when Cortana said to be careful there are two of us in here in Halo 3.
That nostalgic line was great as simple as it was. If he was absolutely robotic and was a mute most people wouldn't of liked his character as much and probably wouldn't of made him so iconic. I didn't care too craps about the rookie. Everything around him was great. If they made another ODST I wouldn't care if he made a return or not. But Master Chief on the other hand I do care about
But think about it this way voice aside if you were taken away at 6 years old and trained to be a supersoldier for all your life. You would probably say and do most things that the chief would do and thats be very objective orientated
