Banning in the beginning was meant for the occasional foul mouth player or the passer-by pain in the rear but has gone through a metamorphosis to server hosts banning because your not the correct team color, your better than them, they don't like your name, your not playing their game the way they would like, or in some cases just because they can. How can players shoot a scorpion tank or throw plasma grenades when they have to walk on glass holding their breath in anticipation of the big boot.

BANNING PRIVILEGES ARE PAINFULLY ABUSED!!!!

Second, If banning is to continue make It possible for all to do so or abolish it all together. Halo was meant to be a fun and enjoyable experiance for extreme gamers and new gamers alike. With people abusing their host privileges, it ruins the game for everyone.

How a host bans is entirely up to the host. It's THEIR server, that THEY pay for, so they should be allowed to do whatever they see fit with it.

If you don't like the way a host treats his server, best find another server, because you cannot argue that a host should not be allowed to control his property however he sees fit.

I agree what would happen is that it would allow team killers and swearers to run rapent on a host sever when he owns it and should get to chose whose on it.

Here's an interesting concept for you;

Put you hand in your pocket and rent your own server. Then you will be free to let whatever kind of idiot you like roam free in your server without fear of being banned.

Until such point as you are willing to do this, I suggest you let those of us that pay for servers out of our own pocket admin them how we see fit. At the end of the day if you don't like the way an admin runs his server, you can always go somewhere else.

I'm sorry if this sounds aggressive but I'm fed up with seeing topics all over the internet, where people are complaining about server admins. I have my own server, I pay for it, I let the public use it, if I want to ban someone for being an idiot I will. My clan have a set of rules for using the ban command and I'd like to think we are responsible about it. FYI we have a penalty system in place whereby the length of the ban is proportional to the seriousness of the offenders behaviour.
But quite frankly, if an admin wants to ban someone, even if it's just because he doesn't like his name that's his perogative (that's something that wouldn't happen on our server BTW, just an example).

You are correct in sayin that they should be allowed to do whatever they see fit with it as long as it doesn't affect other people. If you don't like other people on your server then you shouldn't be playing the multiplayer part of Halo.

Swearing is part of the game unfortuneally. Thats why it has a mature 17+ rating.

LMGDAO, did you miss the bit where I said "It's open to the public"?

I don't like or want idiots playing on my server, you want to take away my right to eject them. Until you put your hand in your pocket and pay for your own server you have no grounds for suggesting that right be removed or restricted. You've been told this already, not just by me either; if you don't like an admin's policies, go play somewhere else. Don't for one minute think you can enforce your policies on us admins.

Well here we may have one of the very few servers that has a responsible adult individual siting behind it. Not some 13 year old sitting in front of mommy's computer. As far as going some place else... my answer to that is if you have problems with so many online players that your banning left and right then you shouldn't be playing Halo's online multiplayer game. And BTW FYI banning for someones name is where ban limiting would come in nicely.

I just noticed this as well. I don't think I've ever heard such a galactically stupid idea.

Tell you what. Why don't we dump the rcon password function as well? Why not give everyone a access to servers they don't pay for?

FYI I run a clan server. We have no objections to people playing in our server as long as they behave and basically just play. I find it quite objectionable that you suggest I shouldn't be playing mulitplayer becasue I want the right to keep tossers out of my server.

Yeah, right. So I should have to use up one of my "allocated bans" to get rid of a guy called "-blam!-" (nailed by the censor filter but, it's a bad word involving child abuse)? That incidently, I have banned for before. Anyone who uses a hopelessly innapropriate name like that can expect much worse things than being banned from a server.

You are also missing the point about of the -blam!-wits that use keygens and run around servers creating trouble. Should I have to use up my "allocated bans" ejecting them repeatedly?

I assume you would want to force that to be a prerequisite to anyone being allowed to admin a server as well? :D

Glad you find it funny. As for everyone having the ability to ban... what I was referring to was banning from their own non-dedicated server ONLY! ALL HALO SERVER HOSTS SHOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO BAN! That is the whole entire point I was trying to make and everyone has seemed to have missed it.

Well, we agree on something then.

That's because you never actually said it, apart from in the poll option which was vague to say the least.

I would have left this topic open, but it's clear that this is degrading into an insult contest.

Bottom line: It's their server, they get to do whatever they want with it because it's their server. If you don't like the way people run their servers, start your own and don't play on any other.

Thread locked.
