I've come up with a little idea that might help encourage people to post in the right forums.

Since everyone who posts off-topic usually misses this handy little panel, why not have a little selection box (like the above) asking what the post is about just above the edit boxes on the Create a thread page. Just the same as on the create a news item on the front page.

Unfortunantly though, even the ut-most stupid brain-dead monkeys might just go ahead and select one without reading the captions to go with it. But I don't really think I've known of anyone like that.

Yeah, that is the only fault I can see, but those threads have an unsure home anyway. For example, where does Halo3 talk go? Underground? Possibly, because it's Bungie related. The Flood? Possibly, because it hasn't been confirmed yet. New Mombassa? Maybe, it is the sequel....

To quote Achronos himself, "speculation for future projects is probably okay [in the Underground]." The Underground is for general Bungie discussion, which includes discussion of the studio's future. You can talk about possible future Bungie titles in the Flood, but I wouldn't recommend it; the people who post there are tools. Especially that Yoozel guy. New Mombasa is for discussion of Halo 2 only.

So change the first choice to

"Bungie General, future and oldschool games"

Not only are there threads that people are unsure of where they should go, but also it'll take quite some time to submit a thread.

I tell you, there's only so much spam in the Underground because it's at the top of the list.

Since I first started coming here, the number of on topic posts in the Underground has increased slightly...

That's because either everyone has had enough, or you are just on-topic-post-enducing.

The possible problem with the radio button style forum chooser is that it might dilute the seperation between forums. If someone is posting from one and then creates a new post, selects a different forum, they might be a little confused. I think a real analysis of why people manage to ignore the tab on the right is what's needed.

Uh well you'll look like a right dip stick if you do :P

I agree with EastBeast. Perhaps a questionnaire or something would be useful.

Excellent idea. Besides the fact that some would not know/care which option was selected, it's a stroke of genius. This would lessen the amount of errands the moderators would have to do (delete/move threads). Makes perfect, and common to most, sense.

/action wishes he would of came up with it
