I've always thought it very unrealistic that enemies and allies get unlimited ammo. It makes true tactics impossible. Halo multiplayer can be fun when you exploit the fact that your enemy just ran out of ammo, but not in campaign. I think it would be awesome to see a covenant barricade, with a bunch of weapon crates that whenever an elite or grunt uses up their weapon's ammo, they run over to it and grab a new weapon. Or just grab the gun of the nearest fallen comrade. What are your thoughts on this? I think it would make halo far more interesting.

Or maybe they just reload and manage heat like a player would?

Programming complex AI is hard :(

I wouldn't say that programming AI to do this would be hard. I have done this in many of my homemade FPS's and its simple with a given number of rounds in each clip, and program the character to recognize when this number of rounds has been used and seek out the nearest source of ammo.

Do you mean infinite ammo? Because I thought, when I clicked on this thread that you wanted something similar to Borderlands (and I was about to argue with that... haha)

Makeing Ai have limited ammo is easy. Not so sure about the picking up weapons/ammo though.

But for sure for the limited ammo.

I don't think that there's anything really wrong with the way it is now. Enemies still have to reload and their weapons overheat just like the player. Its not a bad idea, but its implementation would probably do more harm than good.

The Covenant have to much on their plate to worry about as it is now without the thought of running out of ammo while Master Chief is running at them. Though it would be funny to see a chieften get angry and kill his comrades to get their ammo when they go beserk.
