What am I getting at? From the title it would seem I am describing the features of Bungie.net and in a way I am. However, I think the concept could become more robust and organic. Let me break down my concept I have in my head.
Take the features of Bungie.net that we already have and expand them.
BattleNet For Halo: Reach
Start up your game, title screen comes up and you can play your game. However, press Start in the Campaign Menu, Matchmaking or what have you. You will see a menu for something called BattleNet. Go into it and you will be flooded with a host of features. I will break down the features.
Information
Inside you will see the basic updates of information that Bungie would post be it an advertisement for new maps, an upcoming Title Update, or for a contest.
Personal Service Record
Take the service record concept on Bungie.net and put it in the game. You would have your Spartan or Elite player model on the screen, separate EXP bars tracking your progress in all of the Halo: Reach mutliplayer playlists, and a tracker showing your wins and losses instead of a K/D Ratio. Also included would be your File Share of screenshots, film clips, maps, and gametypes.
Global Records
Think of Global Records as a Leaderboard. In it are two sections you can click on.
The first is called Halo: Reach Leaderboards, simple know, but ti gets the point across. You will find who is the best EXP wise, rank wise, and who is the best at individual gametypes by the win/loss system similar in the Personal Service Record.
The second is called Team Frontlines, a section that tracks the wins and losses of the Red and Blue teams players find themselves as in MM. Say one day you play on the Red Team in a CTF match, if you win the Reds go up in ranking, if you loss, they go down in ranking. It would take multiple wins or losses to make a difference, but they stack up individually. At the end of the week a message will flash on the screen telling which team was victorious for that week and the war starts again refreshed.
Theater of War
Put simply, you could find games just starting in MM and watch them. You would have the functionality of Halo 3's Theater Mode minus rewinding or fast-forwarding. You can watch the battle from the perspective of a player or by going freecam and roaming the battlefield.
Functionality with Bungie.net
While I am sure Bungie has a plan for Reach stat tracking on Bungie.net, I will detail my idea. The basic concept is similar to the Reach BattleNet, but more open.
Service Record
Simple enough. You have your player model, win/loss, added K/D ration, Tools of Destruction, File Share, and Matchmaking/Campaign History. Here is where it differs.
Campaign Section
The Campaign Section wold have a list of your Campaign Tools of Destruction that is similar to the MM version. You are also provided with a list of mission you previously played. Now, instead of a little section showing how many enemies you have killed and how many allies you have lost, you have a constant stream of individual enemies you killed that constantly streams and updates with every game played. Finally, you have a Campaign Progress Tracker for each difficulty.
Matchmaking Section
Think along the same ideas incorporated in the Campaign Section, but replaced with Matchmaking stats. Interestingly, you would have one special feature, Custom Game Finder.
Custom Gamer Finder
Created in the Matchmaking Section, this will help players find other gamers to play Custom/Matchmaking/Campaign Co-Op games. Once posted it will be transferred to a list on Bungie.net that shows which games are open and still looking for players. Think of it as a more organic version of the Classifieds. This feature could also be access in Halo: Reach.
Updating Stats
Updating Stats are statistic that are constantly updating. They include...
Campaign Kill Count-This ever changing stats is like a timer. Instead of the numbers going down, they go up with each kill of a Covenant enemy or with a death of a Marine ally. You never have to refresh your page because it goes up by itself.
Frontlines Tracker-Remember the Frontlines concept in Reach? Well the wins/losses are tracked here and represented by an ever shifting scale with a Red Spartan on one side and a Blue Spartan on the other.
Games Ended-Not much to understand, just a list of Campaign and Multiplayer games that have ended.
Conclusion
I understand I am thinking big and my idea may never happen, but I just wanted to know what you guys think. Would you like this type of system? Thanks for reading.
