I disagree but that's just me. Maybe the idea should be expanded even more to choose between "classic restrictions".
Will dualing be in MM at all then? Also, there's still the fact that using the D-pad would be very awkward while the current swapping can work just fine.
Well that's an easy fix and a great suggestion. So you're saying it should be visible and there is some sort of easy to read animation or aura for when health packs are used, and how to know if a player has one. That's great. I'll add it at once. Speaking of which, they should do that for ALL equipment (being able to see what equipment someone has rather then having it magically come out of someone's ass.
I was talking about not being able to see the health in general. Health doesn't neccessary have a big enough impact on combat to drag out recharge time or make equipment for.
Ahh, now I remember. The original was like that too (without the rate of fire thing). And it was much more efficient because of it. I'm torn between the two ideas but I'm actually more inclined to accept your idea because I know it works.
> Ya, I think I was thinking of the PR from CE.
Your suggestions will only make that worse. If it's more accurate, that defeats the purpose. It will pretty much trump the BR and with that, every other weapon for that matter.
But a slower bullet speed would let you dodge it.
Look man. The games library has expanded so tremendously over the years. It doesn't make sense to me to be forced to rely on other weapons anymore; especially if you run into a power weapon like a Sniper. Suddenly, holding onto a Plasma Pistol doesn't make sense. The whole idea that a weapon should be forced to rely on other weapons is ridiculous. Try to look at it from the grunts perspective (which is what I plan to do in my next article. It should be obvious why). They are inferior for ass-backwards reasons that don't make any sense. They don't have energy shields (and I'm not suggesting they do), and they don't carry a weapon that can actually kill things. Why does everything have to be justified from the perspective of Spartans? I'm telling you now, I still won't use the new Plasma Pistol most of the time and I know I won't despite these perfect advantages. It useless at range and its ammo won't last, but I would consider using them if nothing else is readily available. In our current system, it doesn't even cross my mind sinking low enough to actually pick them up.
If you have a shotgun, you'll want another gun for long range to complement that rather than a sword, your weapons should complement each other. A grunt's perspective doesn't matter. I'm pretty sure the Prophets can use the grunts like cheap pawns as much as they want. They don't even use the overcharge shots. I think you just underestimate how good they are in their current state. Overcharge shots win BR battles with an overshielded opponent. Stats mean nothing because it isn't meant to finish an opponent. I've probably gotten much more use out of PP than most other duals.
Perhaps the biggest problem is that this isn't a contested gun that has changed every game because it didn't work right in the last one, the PP has worked well while staying nearly the same for 4 games. This is an iconic Halo weapon that you are entirely changing the purpose of, rather than making to fulfill its own purposes better.
Why not? Is there some sort of unspoken rule to auto-weapons not giving headshots? Plenty of other games do it and it works out great. Their projectiles don't even have a noticeable speed you can track and even dodge. Why is it that when I suggest improvements, people take it as it will now have a primary purpose of actually doing those things? What does that say about the current weapons we have now? Says a lot if you ask me.
I just think things should be flexible and that is what my suggestions set out to do. If they are not flexible, they should specialize in either short lived power, or a particular area of combat.
For Halo, yes, I think there is an unspoken rule to autos not having headshots. Precision weapons get headshots, others don't. It would be very random and IMO not very welcome.
Onward to other weapons!
Assault Rifle: More accurate at mid-range
Why: To compete with the now more competent weapons.
accuracy is fair enough, but I would like to see the damage decreasing and the clip increasing
Needler: Can be duel-wielded again; No Rebalance
Why: Realistically, using 2 Needlers will not make you kill much faster. Most of the time is spent sending the Needles to your target. Where your advantage will lie is using the weapon with a different duel-wieldable weapon. Especially since there will now be no disadvantage to duel-wielding.
Just like with the sword, you are dualing a weapon very potent on its own with another weapon. It doesn't matter if you kill fast with the needler, it's whether the needles connect or not.
Brute Shot: None
Why: Between the above two weapons, this weapon is still the strongest and will remain the strongest despite its new advantages. After all, power isn't everything.
I kinda hated how they took away the uniqueness of the Halo 2 brute shot, but I'm fine if it's the same.
Battle Rifle: None
Why: Despite its power, it has one crutial disadvantage. And that is projectile speed. You may not see it, but if you're an experienced player, you've learned to adapt to it. At long range, you must aim ahead of a moving target at long range. This alone has made this weapon much more hardcore. Not just anyone is able to pick this weapon up and use it to its highest potential.
I would like to see this used a lot less in Reach beacause in Halo 3 a good player will carry it over 50% of the time. BTW having one of the best bullet speeds is not a disadvantage.
Carbine: Faster projectile speed for no need to aim ahead at long distances
Why: This new ability will act as a counter-balance to the Battle Rifles strength. It may not be the strongest, but at least now, it'll be the easiest to use.
The less accurate rifle gets faster bullet speed? The carbine always seemed like it should have more power than the battle rifle while being less long distance and having a more difficult headshot.
Energy Sword: Can now be duel-wielded, but when duel-wielded, lunging is not possible; 2% energy reduction instead of 10% when killing anything other then Spartans, Elites, or Brutes; Burn-Out
Why: I get nothing but criticism for this idea and I want to know why!!! It's not like duel-wielding swords is going to make them any more effective in combat. All it will do is make them more accessible.
I think people would be disappointed in it being worse than one sword. I think it should just give you very little lag between lunging and meleeing. So if you come across a cluttered group of people you can lunge/slash/lunge in a very short time.
Gravity Hammer: No longer lunges but has a larger killzone blast radius; Sends a shockwave forward at the speed of a Brute Shot knocking enemies in front of them backward and off their feet for a second but doing no damage; the shockwave can also throw grenades back; Regular melee attack now kills its target.
Why: <a bunch of words>
What is the range of this? Is it shooting some kind of gravity beam across the map? That sounds sort of ridiculous. I do like the idea of being better at deflecting grenades though.
Rocket Launcher: Can lock on to targets again but also has a warning system same as the Missile Pod
Why: I don't understand why this ability was taken away in the first place and replaced by the Laser and Missile Pod. <...rant>
Back on subject, lock on vehicles. Yeah, let's bring it back. Why was it taken away? It's not like it can lock on to people. You can't consider something rebalanced if it only applies to a very certain aspect of combat. In fact, I've heard several complaints that there isn't ENOUGH anti-vehicle weapons.
>Rocket Launcher- It's really satisfying to kill a vehicle without lock on because it takes skill. They just need to upgrade the misslepod (specifically in ammo) and/or make an anti-vehicle weapon that works well.
Fuel Rod Cannon: Can also lock on to targets and has a warning system too
Why: Read above.
I think this would work very very well as that anti-vehicle weapon I was talking about.
Sentinel Beam: None
Why: There's a reason why this weapon is almost never put into maps, and that's because it's way overpowered in the current balance of things, but since the trend is make things more effective, the idea will be that things are merely catching up to weapons like the Battle Rifle and this. I mention the Battle Rifle a lot, don't I? And the word merely... and effectively... and clearly...
It might still be more powerful than a lot of weapons even in their preferred situation.
Sorry, I sometimes replaced a bit of quoting with <> because I was running low on character space. I look forward to your response.
