I've played all the Halo games to their full extent so let me say my opinion:
Halo CE: Very original for its time. Great storyline which is beautifully structured, great graphics and great gameplay. Voices and characters are loveable and funny, and baddies are plenty and challenging. Multiplayer is fun with good friends, and only gets old when you get old. Music is spectacular
Halo 2: Great campaign and great soundtrack. However, towards the middle of the game it loses pace and the epicness of exploring another ring while at the same time doing something else as a different character is lost because it either happens too fast or too slow. However, having many levels, as well as the difficulty makes it the longest Halo game. Yet, having precarious snipers and invincible flood makes the challenge too great at times. Music is great, but some songs are out of place. Dual wielding needlers is also fun, and brute plasma rifles are a nice addition
Halo 3: Upon playing this, the first thing that i noticed was the graphics and polished CG cinematics. I liked them, but they didn't immerse me in the game like the previous ones did. They were too movie like. The levels were nice and interesting to play, however, there weren't that many of them, and they didn't set the atmosphere that i was fighting for humanity and the galaxy in this game. and unlike Halo 2's last level, this game was void of a boss battle, which most games should have. The only level i enjoyed was The Ark, which my disc now refuses to play. The level design coupled with music is brilliant, more so than Halo 2's, and equipment makes for some interesting tactics, especially with deployable cover. Music is also great, but falls short of halo 2's main tracks. I love farthest outpost though
Halo 3 ODST: This game is purely brilliant, and if it had matchmaking or an ODST style multiplayer, i'm sure it would surpass Halo 3. The music was phenomenal--absolutely nothing wrong. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the gameplay was sound and fun. The campaign should have been 4 levels longer, but other than that i can't speak bad about ODST. The only problem is the levels are too short, and nobody plays ODST, so co-op matches are almost never available. new tech like the map, compass, and VISR are fun to use, and having a sense of vulnerability means a change of pace and tactic that rarely slows down the gameplay. And driving a tank through a city? epic. However, it borrowed too many elements from other Halo games. For instance, it had a tank level, a warthog level, and a level where you go through winding corridors of some sort encountering enemies. this is seen in all games:
The library
High Charity
Cortana
Data Hive
one thing Halo 2 does differently than the other games is have a spectre and wraith section at the end of the game, instead of warthogs. I also loved Uprising and Great Journey in Halo 2. My favorite level in ODST is Coastal Highway and Kizingo Boulevard. I also like the idea of having a HUB where you can choose which mission you want to access, whilst fighting enemies. This on mythic difficulty is essentially firefight all across a city, which is hella fun!
My personal rating?

so yea, that's my opinion
I also preferred the rocket launcher from halo 2 to the crappy missle pod we have now. The SLaser is garbage, and the fuel rod and sentinel beam are overlooked. The needler also sucks in Halo 3. Vehicle combat is often interrupted by lasers and missile pods, and banshees got nerfed from Halo 2. Bogus!
I love ODST
