Subject: Should Halo Reach Multiplayer Have Dedicated Servers?

hola!

the lag isnt that bad. im sick of people complaining about losing a game becouse of a lag. 98% of the kills that the majority get are based on skill. the 2% is luck or lag. so if you miss a shot its not cuz your shot wasnt registered, its just a plain old miss. lag dosnt determine if your a noob or a general.

so if you die, too bad, its cuz he shot first

But if you shoot first on your screen and still dies then?
Host is a huge difference once you get it yourself.

it dosnt matter, he still shot first, wether or not you tv tells you shot first, the result will still be the same. in reality world he pulled that lil button called a trigger first before you did. your just getting all worked up cuz you THINK you have the first shot then to your dismay find out you didnt.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

No because they don't really fix any problems.

Read up people

Oh, how very clever of you to make the options in the poll so HONEST. Dedicated servers wouldn't necessarily make the game any more "fair." Go do some research troll.

  • 10.31.2009 5:22 PM PDT

If you've ever told someone, "Haha, you suck!" think about it like this: you can press buttons more effeciently than they can! Whoop-dee-doo!

if not this then they should AT LEAST pick the person with the best connection, instead of randomly. I can't tell you how many time's I've been picked as host and start lagging all over the place and end up stuck in death screen when it could have picked a better host. Or even a vote for host switch! If the host's connection sucks, vote for a switch! But dedicated servers would be the best!

Dedicated Server FTW

The point is Microsoft wouldn't be hosting the servers, Bungie would. Since bungie broke away from microsoft game studios, they're games arn't as supported. So if they were to have dedicated servers, Bungie would be paying 75%. And microsoft would probably sponsor Modern Warfare 2 more likely than Halo.

I do agree Laglo is unplayable, I got stuck in a warp in infection and lest because i kept reverting back to place. And a fast paced game play like MLG is even worse because of lag. I have no problems with L4D it works fine, and great even if my PING is like 2 bars there. Bungie could also reprogram the matchmaking like how MAG did to fit their Dedicated servers, I mean how else are you going to have 1 person host 255 other people, it's not possible, thats why they use dedicated servers. Since Halo 3 is more fast paced than most fps it probably should have better connections.

It would be awesome to have Halo dedicated servers, but it probably not gonna happen because of the money issue.

Shape Up or Ship Out*

probably wont happen and tht was some biased thread. i havent had that many crappy games (one or two a day not that bad) and really its probably wont be any different

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

Hmm. I'm never host and I have a -blam!- connection, yet I never get lag.

I guess Laglo 3 *chuckles* just likes me.

once me and my bro were playing team doubles on the same xbox/connection and i had an energy sword and he had a shotgun so we his in a room on blackout and waited for them to come to us, as soon as one came though the door i lunged him with my sword and it made the noise when it hit him and everything but he survived and then turned around and killed me, and then after i respawned i was making my way towards my bro and this guy tried to shoot my bro with a sniper when im ages away inside a room and then i get sniped when the guy cant even see me, and after that i was getting killed randomly and the sounds werent working so when the other guy shot me it was silent and when i got blew up by a grenade it was silent, its bull-blam!- when it lags especialy when they start teabagging you thinking their so great

The grass is always greener on the other side...
Both systems, Host and Dedicated servers both have their pros and cons, but the thing that needs to be realized is that lag will still continue to pursist in both of these models. There are so many people and Internet connections it gets very hard to have a game with out lag.
The main problem with Dedicated servers is that they cost a lot more money to run, but with the Host system it costs less because its only one person sending the information to the servers.
Either system you are going to get will lag. Just learn how to deal with it.

Completely not the case, it all depends on your individual experience. If you dont think lag is a big problem, your internet cleary is good in the eyes of Bungie, probably host worthy, so congradulations, you are part of the minority that doesnt have to tolerate lag, naturally you dont want dedicated servers.

I have film clips of me shooting enemy players 7 times in the face with blood spraying everywhere and the shots not counting, then I die. I dont die because I am a noob, I dont die because I "missed". I die because Halo 3's netcode is not good enough for a host system.

Are dedicated servers a feasible option? Financially, probably not, given the sheer number of halo players. If dedicated servers are not an option:

-Improve the netcode. Make it so every xbox has authority, not just the host. If I shoot a guy in the head on my screen, kill him. I dont care if lag makes it seem like I shot him through a wall, because the host does that to me on a regular basis, atleast this way it will be FAIR.

-Add a Prefer Good Connection preference that WORKS and isnt a cheap gimmick. Prefer good connection puts me in a game against a hosting team in Cali when I live in NC? Not good enough Bungie. "Locale Only" would be a great search preference, and yes I will wait minutes as long as it works.

Now please, dont post telling me lag in Laglo 3 isnt bad, because it is. We as gamers paying for xbox live should not have to tolerate the unfair laggy BS we are subject to. Players should be able to play the game the way it is meant to be played, which I assume is WITHOUT bullet feedback.

Now, rock the vote.

YES WE CAN

YES WE CAN

only a few times does that happn. if its all the time then fix your connection. why should bungie have to pay for your bad connection.

PS: my connection isnt the best. at times i cant play cuz it gets so bad. so you know what i do? i go outside and find something to do. theres better things to do then whine about lag. if it makes you that mad, then put the controler down and.. A) fix your connection B) dont play

Should Halo Reach Multiplayer Have a "Prefer Good Connection Option that WORKS?"

if you choose "prefer good connection" and it still lags, then its your connection turbo

I eat Harlows for breakfast!

Yes, it's a joke on how bad Halo 3s servers are. If Bungie is going to go out with a bang and make Reach amazing, then it will most likely be the new Halo 3 (meaning everyone would switch from Halo 3 MM to Reach MM, just like Halo 2 to 3).

  • 11.01.2009 12:02 PM PDT

You guys do know that lag still happens on servers, right? You guys do know that if the servers go down, we are SOL, right?

  • 11.01.2009 12:05 PM PDT

hola!

either type of connection is fine with me. i never stated that i didnt want dedicated servers. id rather prefere it to be Dedicated servers, it might possibly funtion better but if it means that bungie has to fork out money fo it then i say its not worth it. if money wasnt an issue then go ahead bungie try it out. im just tired of people blaiming the lag for a lossing game.

mabey they will use the xserver (where you can run a server from your PC for the xbox).

section 8 had it, and it isnt even popular. im sure microsoft would have it work for its most popular franchise
