Subject: What if Reach features a young master chief?

O.k. so what if Halo Reach has us playing a young master chief that can level up as we progress through the game? Like he was just learning to use the power of the spartan to its full potential.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

Playing as a Spartan in training is fine for maybe the start of the game, but having to level up is just plain lame. It would be too much like an RPG.
I would just like a simple training mission where they capture the Pelican in the forest.

God I hope your not that guy from that other topic.
"HALO IZ NOT RPG!"
But seriously, a long spanned story doesnt make it an RPG.
RolePlaying? no, theres non of that...
Just playing the story from the start... there done.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

woooo.

Can I have a character I care about now?

No I'm not that guy, he was a dumb troll. As I said in my post, I'm totally fine about playing from the beginning I just don't want the whole "level up" aspect or any of that "stat building" stuff. Playing a few missions from the beginning would be ok.

Troll confirmed. I never even insulted you

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Maybe there might be a romantic interest with Linda and Kelly... :o

That would be a good idea, I mean, Reach is mainly about the Spartan training program, and then the last few chapters about Reach really falling.

The Oblivious Murderer

Leveling up is more of a RPG element that tends not to fit well into a first person shooter in my opinion. That and once you try that type of gameplay in multiplayer you get to close to COD where you level up guns.

Well, it might, but seeing as to where this takes place in the Storyline, I don't think it will.

Um.. did you all forget Bungie said you won't play as the Chief ever again?

To be exact they said they will not make another game with Master Cheif in it. We will be playing as Master Cheif again in Halo 4 which 343 is making, not bungie. But the whole leveling up thing is usually in MMOs and RPGs. I mean it would be cool to go through training and all, but not leveling up. If they make a Halo MMO, by all means, leveling in that game would make sense, in a FPS it would make the game to much work to have fun in.

MC will not be on Reach.

Says who? I'm not saying we will play as him, I'm just saying that he could very easily appear as a cameo.

the only way you can play as the chief is to play through the book. which they wont do, since we know the story line. it says "from the beginning you knew the end" not "you know the entire plot line we wont surprise you at all"

Well it could actually mean that, I mean it says from the begining you know the end, which could mean "you know the entire plot line, we wont surprise you at all". They could surprise us and follow the plot line. Its just they probably wont because it wont make their last game something to remember.

also in the books, there is not much action. it is mostly dialoge with a few good battles in between

There's plenty of action.

  • 10.28.2009 2:14 AM PDT

but there are really long bits of dialogue and planning in between. and you cant skip it, otherwise you dont know what is going on. it will need metal gear levels of cutscenes to cope

They're interesting parts of dialogue for me. I've read each book about 2 or 3 times. I'm just hoping Bungie finds a way to tell the story in an easy way so that the people who havn't read the books can understand it.

  • 10.28.2009 2:24 AM PDT

i like the books, but i dont think it would work as a game. i would prefere a new story line, otherwise there is no plot twist, surprise endings, nothing

It's not really necessary in Reach to include anything that happened before the Fall of Reach planet story wisely. Leaving that for the book and possible movie is well enough.
