I'm playing CE for the first time in ages, but the first ship battle on Truth and Reconciliation kicks my ass every time. Tips?

Take your time and let your AI teammates do some of the work when possible. Remember that grenades are your friend.

Yes, I'm a furry. And yes, I like men. So what?

Talking about the first battle when you arrive inside the ship?

Constantly scan the doorways. They will make a tone and flash when something comes through. There is an active camo behind some weapon crates that you can use to run up and stick Elites. You can also let your allies do some of the work for you, but don't forget that you'll need them for the battles ahead.

None of my allies have ever lived over a minute, seeing as the difficulty is on Legendary.

Can you believe it?

When one of the doors opened, I just went through and camped there while the covenant were distracted by the marines. When I ran out of ammo, I just used covenant weapons that were laying there.

Your destruction is the will of the gods.

I am their instrument.

Wild Recon

Grenades, grenades, and more grenades.

Just keep throwing them at each opening door.

As for the hunters, there is an invisibility behind a few crates, grab it, sneak up behind them, and shoot them in the flesh of their back. Instakill.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

The easiest method I have found is to conserve as much sniper ammo as possible (there are rounds near the lift before you go up) and rush into the hallway of whatever door opens first. Even on legendary, a full AR clip will put down whatever comes out of it. Once in your hallway, move forward until the door opens and snipe away, just be sure not the leave the hallways as the door will lock again.

On Legendary there are a few successful strategies that I follow to survive those Silver Elites, but they all hinge on 1 thing, using the corridors. On Legendary the enemies come too fast and furious for all but a select few Halo Gods. For the rest of us the corridors allow us a way to do that whole battle and rarely lose any health.

There are several weapons combos that work. I am also a fan of not firing a single SR round in all battles previous to this one, leaving myself with the entire 64 rounds I started the level with. I just love the comfort of having 40 more rounds than I can have with a normally fully loaded SR to do with as I please in that opening ship board battle.

Typically I come aboard with an AR and the SR. The first invisible elite falls nicely to the AR. Once he is down, I position myself a decent grenade toss away from one of the corridor entrances and let the marines deal with the new Silvers. I keep an eye on my motion tracker to figure out where the covies are coming out of the 2 doorways I am concerned with. A well placed frag, move in and take out the stragglers with the AR and swap my SR for either a plasma pistol or a needler. I swap walk the SR and Covie weapon up into the middle of the 2 corridors, where the separating doorway is, and leave the SR there. This way I do not run the risk of it getting blown away where I cannot find it. Once you have your AR and covie weapon, it is pretty easy to coax the Silvers up into the corridors one or two at a time and dispatch them with either needles, plasma grenades or PP and AR combos. You do have to keep an eye out for the spawns out of the corridor ends themselves. You can get whacked upside the head with an energy sword and have your day ruined perty darn quickly if you do not have your head on a swivel (or at least paying attention to your motion tracker or listening for doors opening). I typically prefer the AR PP combo since those long legs of the Silvers make using a needler potentially a hazard for my MC butt. I have killed myself more times that I can count by unloading with a needler from too close of a range and having that pretty pink explosion take place right in my face, yah, nice move!

Once the Silvers are all taken care of, the remaining covies are easy to mop up using pretty much any weapon you want. You can take out a number at any time that find themselves clustered around the Wraith by taking out the Wraith with a PP, takes about 70 shots but is cool to see explode INSIDE the ship. Any of the shipboard Wraiths can be used that way, kinda cool!

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

Learn how to headshot every time. Make sure to kill as many as you can at a long distance.

Thats probably one of the hardest parts in halo history on legendary. I got farthest when i saved the healthpack and camo for the the last few berserkers and stayed in the middle with the marines as long as possible. Plasma pistol works great against against everything else.

Just follow the advice of the other posts. That battle kicks everyone's ass.

I found dragging the sniper rifle along the entire mission to be a pain. I no longer do it on Legendary.
I go up the grav-lift with my trusty AR and a needler and like to stand in the middle of the platform. AR is for the invisible dudes and the Needler is just deadly against the gold swordbearers. You really need to listen for the beep that indicates when a door is about to open and WATCH your motion detector. I use precious frags for jackals and grunts in corridors, machine gun the survivors and reserve stickies for elites.
I always have my eye open for stickies on the ground, and will try to pick them up while charging enemies. Timed right, you can drop one in front of an opening door and the blast will take out, or weaken enemies enough to mop up with the AR. I will often charge into the entrance to the corridors to finish up groups before reenforcements emerge from different doors.
The hunters are a pain to take out with the AR/Needler. I try to sticky one and then separate them by drawing one down the corridor they emerge from. AR fire, buttstrokes and running circles around them works pretty well. The marines can distract the other one long enough to allow you to get the first. The remaining hunter can be beaten to death, even on Legendary, with little or no problem.
If you cling to the sniper rifle you can easily get them to sweep you with their hocky stick, backpedal, and gutshoot them. One shot. Done.

Marines left to battle Hunters you say? On Legendary?? I do not think I have ever had a Marine left alive by that point. You must be alot better at this than I am! Either that or maybe I am just too willing to let them buy the farm saving my metallic ass. I wonder if Marines do survive, will they continue to follow the MC into the ensuing battles or just hang out in the grav lift room?

that battles easy, even on legendary, personally i didnt have a problem but if you are stuck then most of the strategies on this thread should work and btw if the marines survive they just follow mc unitl they die at some point

After you battle your way into the next cargo bay you drop down and can open the door to allow them to follow you. I can get them all the way down to the giant landing bay, but they tend to rush out into the center and get mown down really quickly. We're talking about thirty seconds.

Marines do surprisingly well against hunters here. At close range the hunters tend not to use their Fuel Rod and Marines basically roll with the punches when smacked by the hockey sticks.
You really need to be a grenade throwing machine and trust me on the needler/AR combo. Needler is the ultimate Elite killer.
