Sorry for making another one of those single-idea threads, but:

People have been saying that they want more tactical equipment (radar jammer), and less "n00b" equipment (bubble shield, regenerator). I don't agree with these people at all as the shield and regen are very useful and really not n00bish, but I get where they're coming from.

So howzaboutz a telescope that has a x5, x10 or maybe a x15 zoom to it? i can see countless appications, from spotting out the enemy team, to coordinating tank/gauss fire, finding weapons on unfamiliar maps, or a clan leader could use it to command on the field.

It could be activated with X and then last for a set amount of time, and you can use it by using your normal visor zoom. i know that it is just a sniper with no gun, but it would could be more common than a sniper, and encourage more tactical gameplay.

Other Ideas:

-it could have infrared to find enemies in the dark/with active camo.

-press X to deactivate, so that you can zoom in/out normally again.

- smoothly zoom in/out, EX; hold up on d-pad while in telescope to zoom in by x3 per second, hold down on X for opposite

EDIT: okay, my bad, i kinda misnamed this thread a little. but whatevs, just feel free to post ideas about whatever new equipment you would like.

I actually did not like the Equipment; it was nice but i would rather have a melee block button or night vision on the x button

i actually like the telescope idea. bungie should consider it

  • 10.28.2009 4:39 PM PDT

No one likes equipment, bungie needs to ditch it. They slowed down the pace of the game and felt more like gimmicky play toys rather than these efficient combat tools.

thank you, the13thlego. and yes, equipment was... was... interesting, but i think that more tactical equipment would help to facilitate gameplay. plus, if there are really big maps like some people want, then this will be incredibly useful.

(final bump before this thread dies)

The idea of equipment is to change the playing field by effecting all players in the same way. The battles with equipment should be decided by who can better adapt to the change, and the equipment user's task is to figure out when he can best take advantage of his equipment.

A bubble shield gives the advantage to close combat. Maybe there could be an inverse of this? A short-throw (so that the user is always hit) field that slows down movement in the throwing direction and reduces bullet range in that direction - in other words preventing short-ranged fire from hitting and making players unable to close in for a melee.

The bubble sheilds that master cheif uses in that first trailer for halo 3. Smaller, quickly deployed.

I once made a thread about something that has to do with the X button being RB and so RB would let you do special stuff. Here

click it you know you want to

HEALTH PACK, ADMINISTERED
New equipment would be good, as long as it doesnt hamper gameplay.
A tracking system, similar to a plasma grenade in that it is thrown onto someone or something, but instead it tracks it for aproximatly 30-45 seconds, placing a waypoint over the thing it is tracking.
A Shield system, similar to the bubble sheild, but it should not support camping by giving it a single side, like the deployable cover.
The trip mine can stay, but they should be modified to make them beter, the trip mine should be able to stick on to vehicles and walls and it should not beep and give off a glow, and it would have a 2 second delay before activating.
The power drain is just the same thing, just that when it comes in contact with water, it send a charge throughout the water, disabling all vehicles and sheilds in the water.
A Supplementary motion tracker, this would be deployed and it would put a waypoint over people crossing its feild of operation or it would light them up on you motion detector wether they are moving or not.
And something like C4, efficiently a trip mine that does not go off at movement and heat. you would stick it onto a surface, then trigger it by pressing the "deploy equipment" button, you must be looking at it for it to go off.

what does this have to do with telescopes?

  • 10.28.2009 5:57 PM PDT

i absolutely loved equipment before bungie got rid of more than half of them, all the ones they got rid of i liked, all the ones they kept i hate. they really need to make it so characters cannot jump off of equipment in Reach.

i always thought the autoturret would be cool in matchmaking (needs to be less powerful though)mayne their could be an option that if you get close enough to it there could be a hold rb to hack turret and it could turn to your team.

how about a gravity bubble?, makes everything move slower inside it's range...

or a deployable shield door (i also liked shield doors =P)

a deployable teleporter, place one part in your base run to the other teams base and put the other one there. would be two way though so the enemy could potentially use it against you.

deployable man cannon?

there are many possibilities

Gravity bubble sounds awesome. Or a gravity belt, decreases the effect of gravity by like. . . 50%. Oh, and about the telescope, I think it should have some sort of laser pointer, or maybe a way to set way points.

way points, ehh... idk if it would get very much serious use, i can see my clan leader using it though. gravity belt, good idea though

Anti-camping field: Lights every player on the equipment's radius up on the radar. No more crouching.

VISR field: All targets and pick-ups inside the field are highlighted.

Light-matter circler: All light and firepower are transported along a cylinder's circle perimeter to the point they would normally break out of, and sent out in the same direction. In other words, makes one able to see and shoot through (technically past) whatever is inside the device's radius. A cover remover.
