Subject: Love Firefight, tweaks/ideas I'd like to see for Reach

Really enjoy playing Firefight, here's some ideas I've had while playing it:

1. Weapons picked up and then thrown on the ground should be the last items on the ground to clean up. Current cleanup is too fast and arbitrary, I've seen weapons cleanup as I threw them on the ground. It would be nice (and completely realistic) to be able (for example) to throw a fuel rod gun on the ground to use later on a hunter or chief while you use a pistol / plasma pistol combo or what have you. Currently if you toss a weapon on the ground you have no idea if it will be there when you return.
2. Ability to start at any set to practice (game would not show in Leaderboards or qualify for achievements). Could make this an "unlock", i.e. could only start at sets you've previously reached playing from the start.
3. Ability to start a "social" game of Firefight that would allow drop in / drop out play. Again, of course game would not show in Leaderboards or count towards achievements.
4. More medals for sprees past Invincible
5. Have the top medal spree add a small score multiplier. All kills made past the top spree medal would score more points.
6. Points for assists.
7. Show longest spree in post-game stats (should be easy, it is already in Halo 3 multiplayer post-game stats).
8. More maps / variety. i.e. more night maps, more vehicle maps, more small maps good for 1 to 2 players, etc.
9. Ability to turn on some skulls permanently for a higher score multiplier (like Thunderstorm, etc).

Marine Corps.
Semper Fi.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Make it as boring as Horde. I'd love that. ^.^

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

Agreed, firefight is not something that I have an urge to play, ODST to me... sucks. With these improvements in REACH, I would actualy play it often.

They should also add forge to fire fight.

For REACH to have firefight it should be completely revamped, and upgraded. If not, then just remove it. It was a waste of development time, and disk space in ODST...

Big Team Battle Multiflag/Slayer on Standoff/Valhalla/Sandtrap/Avalanche = Win

I don't see whats the point of firefight in Reach. Enjoy playing with those fun energy shields and regenerating health going commando instead of working together.

i'll repost this post i made in another thread

all good ideas

i think for custom firefight you should be able to use forge on the firefight maps and then play them.

i would like firefight styles
say like 7 (hah get it?) different types of enemies
one would be covenant (elite honor guards as heroes)
flood (just flood, nothing else)
heretics (heretic elites, grunts, and sentinals. hero is the holographic jetpack elites or super sentinals)
insurectionists (maybe)

POSSIBLY
covenant seperatists (elites, grunts, and hunters)
covenant loyalists (brutes, grunts, jackals, hunters, and drones)

you'd be able to combine them in different ways (you cant have seperatists or loyalists if covenant are on)

say:
insurrectionists and heretics (awesome)
or flood and covenant (like halo: CE)
or flood, loyalists, and seperatists (like the covenant)
or flood and heretics (like the oracle)
or loyalists, seperatists, flood, heretics, and insurrectionists (epic)
or just insurrectionists

this way you could have awesome 3 (or up to 5) way battles going on around you. or you could just fight 1 type.

i also think the skulls order should be customizable, or at least be able to turn them off (would not count towards achievements or other stuff)

Reach happened before Halo 1. I wouldn't be surprised to see the old Halo 1 health system back or something that even pre-dates it. These will be pre Halo 1 Spartans.

It needs a matchmaking system.

My talents include always knowing the wrong thing to say.

Twitter!

Scores that actually show on B.net, a resume game button for single players, and the first life of the game you should be dropped in on pods as a tribute to ODST.

health probably wont regenerate, and the way to solve having more life is to have more enemies with better AI

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

Problem 1: Set structure and difficulty
In ODST we already see 20+ hour Firefight matches. Many people need to play for hours to beat their previous records. In addition many are saying the game is too easy and won't get any more difficult once you get to set 5. People quit because they're bored or have to do something else. You can also get more lives than you lose which takes survival out of "survival mode"

Solution: Change the set structure. Remove or reduce the amount of unnecessary Rounds. Make it 5 waves = 1 set. Every 3rd or 5th Set you get an ammo drop and a new skull. This couldn't create any problems as the game can have "infinite sets", up to 1000 perhaps. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the Bonus Rounds either, they don't have any point because you can have as many Grunts normally as well. To make the game more difficult, remove or reduce the amount of extra lives majorly. You only get 7 lives and maybe 1 more for every 1 million points.

Result: People are more equally divided on sets. You could compare it to Matchmaking when some people have only reached Set 5 and some are on 50s. Less lives directly makes matches shorter and more difficult, brings in the survival into survival mode.

Problem 2: Lacking Haloverse
There is no Scorpion, there is no Banshee, there isn't even an officially driveable Wraith. There is no Flood, there are no Sentinels. You can't even see a Chopper and a Ghost at the same time on 1 map. You don't ever get AI allies either.

Solution: Simply add more maps that support multiple playstyles or only have a few maps (small, on-foot, Covenant) like in ODST. An example map list:
- Small: Players vs Covenant
- Medium: Players VS Covenant
- Big: Players VS Covenant
- Small: Players VS Flood
- Big: Players VS Flood
- Medium: Players VS Sentinels
- Big: Players VS Covenant and Flood
- Medium: Players VS Flood and Sentinels
- Medium: Players VS Covenant and Sentinels
- Huge: Players VS Covenant, Flood and Sentinels
The different races (Covenant, Flood, Sentinels) would battle with each other a little, but focus on the players like they do in Combat Evolved. If you only try to avoid fighting, you won't get any points. You would also get AI ally reinforcements differently on each map. On some you don't get them at all, on some you only get a few, on some you get them quite a lot; on some they are real marines, on some they are weaker police or alike.

Result: Bring all the Halo in Firefight. All the characters, weapons, vehicles and allies. They are what makes Halo. Firefight isn't canonical so having Flood even if Reach campaign doesn't have it is possible.

Problem 3: Connectivity
You need to play with friends and can't join ongoing games.
Solution: Add Matchmaking and ability to join ongoing games. The latter can't ruin anything if you can only join Open matches, your score starts from 0 and the team won't get extra lives.
Result: Matchmaking makes Firefight big and easy to access. Joining matches allows people to party up comfortably, although you probably can't reach great high scores like it.

Feel free to add more improvements or comments

TL;DR conclusion:
1. Remove Rounds
2. Less to none extra lives
3. Add all weapons, vehicles, enemies and allies
4. Matchmaking

A little tweak
