around the forums people keep countering other peoples theories by saying "it didnt happen in the books". well, heres why i doubt that the game will simply play throug the books.

fall of reach: most of this id about the spartans training. do you really think a game about children solving puzzels and panballing is going to be popular? and then, the gameplay would be too inconsistant. first your a six year old, then a really strong teenager. then a really strong bioengineeered teenager , then you get powerarmour, then you get shields. then there is the flaw that books contain long sections of diologues and descriptions that seperate the combat, requiring metal gear solid levels of cutscenes.

first strike: basically as above but without the inconsistancy bit. also the fact that large sections were set in space battles.

if you remain uncconvinced consider this: this is bungies last halo game. do you think they would be so lazy as to not even come up with a new plotline, just repackage an old one?

anyway i think it follows the story of beta team. their fate remains a mystery so anything could happen, and defending the generator will probably be fun (dont say im a hypocrite, beta team and the generator defense werent properly outlined n the book, we just know they exist)

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

the game could follow the book AND be focused on the battle of reach.
let's say there is 9 missions.
first, you'd have to defend the generator. you end up failing.
second mission : regroup, defend alpha base. you fail.
third : defend second generator.
fourth : you get to play as MC on the space station.
fifth : MC part 2.
etc.
the game can be focused on a single battle.

and since the game is confirmed to be a prequel, it means nothing can happen after H1. yet, first strike takes place right after H1, so chances it follows that book are really, really slim.

I don't suppose the majority of people who play the Halo games have actually read the books, so them being like the books shouldn't be much of a bother. Hardcore fans will probably be disappointed either way.

Yes, no matter what happens people will be annoyed. If it is based on the books, those who have read the books will pick every last detail out, and complain when things do not match exactly. If its not based on the books, people will complain about canon, and how they wanted to play the adventure. Catch 22.
