All of them would be like they are in campaign, not tweaked or changed for balance. A "Race Lock" option in Gametype options could be used to create balanced matches though:
Player 1: (Any, Spartan, Elite, Grunt, Drone...)
Player 2: (Any, Spartan, Elite, Grunt, Drone...)
Player 3: (Any, Spartan, Elite, Grunt, Drone...) And so on.
Matchmaking would surely be majorly locked to Spartans-Elites-Brutes only. A couple of playlists could allow more freedom.


Some example details:
Spartans could activate flashlight (maybe more tactical HUD / Adrenaline mode too)
Elites could activate Camo
Brutes could activate Berserker
Jackals could activate shield when they're holding 1 handed weapon
Grunt could activate suicide mode in lack of better speciality
Drone can fly (requires rest)
Hunter could swap between the 2 different projectiles
Engineer gives powers to nearby players/vehicles
Prophet could teleport
ODST could activate VISR
Monitor can shoot lasers
Enforcer could activate front shield
Sentinel could activate blue laser
Pure Flood could switch form
Engineer and Flood Carrier/Spore (maybe others like Enforcer, Monitor and Prophet) could atleast be in VIP, Infection, Forge or alike although they could be some use in any gametype


Gametype ideas:
- Engineers/Prophets as VIPs
- Pure Flood/Spore starts as Alpha Zombie
- Multiple Grunts vs 1 Juggenaut (IE. Hunter)
- Jackals/Sentinels defending Territories
- Tactical CTF match with 1 of each race in both teams (IE. Grunt, Jackal, Drone, ODST, Elite, Hunter, Prophet, Enforcer)
- Multi-team battles (IE. 2 Marines, ODST, Spartan) vs (Grunt, Jackal, Elite, Hunter) vs (Pure Flood, 2 Combat forms, Carrier) vs (2 Sentinel, Monitor, Enforcer)
- Marines only in realistic matches
- Epic Prophet, Hunter, 2 Elites, 2 Jackals, 2 Grunts VS 1 Spartan, 4 ODSTs and 3 Marines
...

I only want the Elite, Brute, and Spartan player models in matchmaking, but the rest would be awesome in custom games! I like the abilities you gave the different races, the engineers would be cool as a VIP. They should have limited slow flight, and be able to repair vehicles to keep them from being to weak, because I think that the ability to give overshields would be overpowered in VIP.

Sorry. This is not good. It would not be balanced at all.

That is why it would be so fun in custom games :)

To be honest i think this would be a great idea for custom games, but not so much for matchmaking. if i went into a game and there was a guy floating around as the monitor with a gurt fat LAZOR that can kill practically anything instantly while im walking round as a fat slow hunter not being able to kill him because of his size would be pretty frustrating.
however, for custom games this would be a brilliant idea. you could have flood as the infected and hunters as juggernaughts. maybe the prophet as a VIP!
wow, as i write this more and more possibilities crop up in my head

The engineer could be a VIP too... The engineer gives out overshields to everyone nearby. That is precisely the concept of the influential VIP gametype, all allies nearby their VIP get whatever you want, power.

Race lock wouldn't work, but power lock would work. You would also have to make them all the same size.


Care to explain how power lock would work?

I don't think it's very possible to make them same sized. It kills the point of playing a Grunt

I would say make one or two playists on XboxLive that you can use any character you want, but for the rest keep it as Spartan, Elite, or Brute. Also, in custom games people should be able to use any character, unless the maker of the custom game changes the rules so only some characters can be used.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Im fine with equally sized models being used. I like the look of games like Unreal, which have a large variety of player models to choose from. It makes it feel more like you are on the battlefield, instead of some meat puppet.

I like the idea, but only Brutes, Elites and Spartans should be for matchmaking ( Unless its a special gametype ) And the combat form for infection. ( The infected would have the same stats as a combat form from Single Player and would spawn with 1 random weapon to simulate how the combat forms get the weapon of there host. )

But for sure ALL of them for custom games.

Brutes, elites, and spartians. they should add honor guard elites and an arbitor in multiplayer and maybe an odst! that would be awsome!!!

love the hunter and brutes idea (and pure flood =P), infact all awesome, 'cept I think the prophet thing could get confusing, and a bit annoying, perhaps they can (as there covenant leaders) set way points that everyone on their team can see, so they can put the way points (different way points for different things, they can scroll through them and pick one, jeep means vehicle, ! means something urgent, ect) put the way points were they think those useful thing for their team are, I know bungie will never fit all those races in the multilayer, but would be cool, if they could balance it out, also maybe being prophets like recon (used to be lol), I.E not many of them, just chucking random ideas, so don't slag me off if u don't like them, thanks =]

I don't think the prophet thing would be bad. Certainly teleporting couldn't be random so maps would have about 5 -10places you will teleport to. It isn't 1 bit annoying in Brute Force, either you save your own ass, annoy enemies or gamble for tactics

When you're prophet you can order your teammates to go there and do that with mic, no need for special commanding power

Although Prophets could also have the "meleeonly" shield, whichever is more balanced
