The boot system is definately something that needs re-working.

We can all agree on that.

So after playing Living Dead all weekend, I stand very, VERY firm with this idea.

why don't they just turn off friendly firer or on can't remember which

You mean off. I don't know. It's really retarded. I was in Living Dead this week. I hop on a turret. Some moron who couldn't get to it fast enough betrayed me. No boot prompt whatsoever. So I went up and shotgunned him in the face and got booted instantly.
Now you see, that's where people are always naive, if someone betrays you in matchmaking, they should be booted, yes, but don't be a hypocrite and do the same, just wait and play ,if they betray you until it gives you the boot option. See? No skin off your bones.

i hate the boot system. i remember the first time i got booted. i had a rampage going in the scorpian(i was a total noob back then) and i was trying to hit this one guy. well i had almost got him but he jumped at the last second and my shot hit a guy on my team. i got booted insantly. it sucked

  • 11.01.2009 1:37 PM PDT

hola!

you know what it is? people know if you berayed them on accedent. the problem is the people who boot you just cuz they can even though they knew it was accedental. but think of it this way, you get booted but the guy who booted you is thick cuz now he has one less player on his team and most likely lost the game for them.

i sleep at night knowing this

  • 11.01.2009 1:48 PM PDT

U kill a team mate ur gone thats how its supose 2 be and the ranks keep them seriosly whats the point of everyone being a general when some cant live up to it u can take examples from cod since that game does not require any spesific skill every one gets there golden cross eventually thats fine tho cuz its not a skilled based game. Halo tho needs and works with ranks since its an skilled based game.

..mmm...what?

  • 11.01.2009 1:52 PM PDT

I hear you.

I can't remember the last time I got a boot option. God, I remember someone killing me 3 times before I lost it and shot him in his perfectly fine ass.

Then I got booted up my ass. The system makes no freaking sense.

=)

What I think they need to do is whether or not you can boot them, you can press Y to kill them. Also, excessive damage should start counting as a betrayal. The worst people are the ones who take your shields down until an enemy comes by and kills you.

No, the thing is, we don't want the fate of our matches to depend on some asshoile lucky enough to get a chance to press the shiny blue button.

How can we suck at a game that we don't even get a chance to play?

Let him be. He's so full of himself and that 50. Just wait for people to ACTUALLY contribute to the discussion. Morons like him will just wither in the dust once he realizes nobody likes/cares what he has to say.

Do you really care? you can't automatically see my signature anyway.

ok i got it. assuming Reach doesn't use the left and right d-pad buttons.

whenever someone betrays someone else it goes to a team vote (like booting in L4D) left is no, right is yes.

here is where your think, wait a group of 3 people could just betray one person over and over and keep themselves in.

so here is the fail safe, if you kill the same teammate 3 times = instant boot. if you kill 1 teammate twice and another once = instant boot, but NOT if you kill 3 teammates once because if you can kill 3 teammates at 3 different times without them booting you the third time then you have some really nice teammates.

Why so we cant boot people like you that grief other players? Constantly..?

No. Just no.

Its good the way it is.

Not only is this not the greatest idea ever for Reach, but it is a terrible idea in general. Misleading title = lock.

It's too vague to be terribble. In fact, he's right in the money.

Too many times have abandoned ghosts flown into teammates and got me kicked.

The boot system is made up of recorded data of previously played games and your behavior in these games. If you've played 20 games in the past day, and out of those 20 games, you've either been kicked or quit out of half or more of them, the next time you betray someone the boot prompt will pop up for them.

So if you "accidentally" kill someone with a ghost, but youve betrayed people 11 out of the last 20 games and have been booted, that person will have the chance to kick you again. Its based on patterns of behavior. If you only ever "accidentally" betray people, you dont have to worry about this.

The only people who ever complain about the boot system are people who always betray people and then get kicked as a result of it. Either dont betray people, or if they do it to you first.. let it go, or wait til they do it again.. sometimes a 3rd time is necessary if they hardly ever commit the crime.. then you can boot them.

Interesting I should find you here, homeboy. Still agitated that I disproved of your hip hop in Reach idea? Get over it.

Anyway, like I said, the boot system needs a FIX. Not an entire overhaul. It works for me sometimes, but I've had enough of getting betrayed for weapons, and then, when I don't even mean to kill the jackass that betrayed me (read as: he walks into one of my plasmas like an idiot), he gets the prompt to boot me INSTANTLY. I agree with the behavior idea. If you never betray then betray once, you shouldn't get booted. But what happens when that person betrays THREE times in ONE game. I think that's a little off.

It should be a system of Forgive and Punish (I forget what game it was in.) You can choose to forgive someone if they kill you (by accident, of course), but you can punish someone if they betray you on purpose. Three "punishes" equals a boot. It would solve the problem of sometimes being able to boot somebody and sometimes not being able to boot somebody and not having a computer system determine it.

The punish system wouldn't work.

With that system, people who like to betray every game (whether for power weapons or just for fun) would have two opportunities to betray every game. It wouldn't stop the betraying; it would actually promote betraying because people would realize they could betray without consequence twice per game.

The reason why there are people who can betray 2 or 3 times before getting booted is because they haven't played Halo in a few days or weeks. The real fix the system needs is to count the last 25 or so games you play into account when determining whether or not to give the option to boot. That way, people who haven't played in a while would still have to be careful of betrayals.

I can only assume you're making fun of us demanding stuff from Bungie. Oh well. Either they put it or I don't buy it. Simply put.

@ Deathtrap. Now that I think about it, that system really doesn't work.

  • 11.01.2009 3:21 PM PDT

The idea to stick someone and send them after enemies is ingenius. Even with betrayal on.

  • 11.01.2009 7:01 PM PDT

your right i hate it when someone tries to kill me for a weapon i have and when kill them to stop bugging me booted its really annoying or at least give you the option everytime because usually u can tell if it was an accident or on purpose

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

Just turn the boot system into a weapon. There, problem solved.

Deathtrap what about my system?

It seems a bit too complicated, plus it only works with four players. It would have to be altered for playlists with different amounts of players.

That could be fun...

The word, "Banhammer" would have a new meaning :)

Does anyone know how the boot system actually works? Personally, I'm baffled.

  • 11.01.2009 8:52 PM PDT

"They let me pick... did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others you were strong and swift and brave, a natural leader. But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw but me. Can you guess? Luck."
—Cortana to John-117

yeah, the boot system *sucks*. For example I was playing living dead ( Not this week-end playlist the last one ) And I was on the turret on the foundry map, I did not rip it off because it is a waste if you do. Anyway, I was on the turret and the guy stood in front of me so I have to betray him to kill somthing. So I give him a warrning shot, he dies, comes back. I do it again trying to get a kill.. I get booted.

To fix things like this I would suggest a "vote to kick" system. ALOT of other games use this system and it works out well. But, I know in halo it will be abused. For example, somone will want the one random on his team booted so him and his friends can fight a 3v4 or what ever...

But this system, like I and others here said the boot system sucks and needs an overhall!
