Personally, I believe that microsoft is just using the website and easter eggs in order to build hype for Halo 2 and to keep fans interested. They advertised in the trailer itself a release date of Nov. 9th so why would they attempt to hint at an early release date. Also, if Bungie had plans to release Halo 2 early they would come out and say it so that fans would know with plenty of time to do something about it.
Halo 2 is highly publicized and Bungie fans are loyal to the Bungie brand. Therefore any type of demo would be unneccessary and wasteful. Bungie has said itself recently that they are still hard at work to finish Halo 2 in order to have it released on Nov. 9th. They are working now just to make the Nov. 9th release. With that being said it is already too late to even think about shipping to reach shelves by Aug. 24th.
