Reach as we know is a prequel and should be treated differently than the original Halo Trilogy, am i right?

So.. If Bungie is trying to create a different style, or a different way of playing Halo...How are they going to create this new experience with the same enemies we all know... the same weapons we are all used to... the same possible vehicles? ... I mean yes.. they can add a few new weapons and vehicles just for that game since reach gets destroyed neways, but how can they really give us a new experience with the same formula?

Think about it, won't it get stale after a while? We know how to kill elites by now (take out shield, headshot),grunts(single clean headshot), Jackal( grenade), Hunter(shot at the back).. we know how most of the weapons work even though it may be tweaked etc... and the vehicles are no different.

Now you people may say u still like the same formula, and dont get me wrong, i do too.. but its bin 3 games already, and halo 3 is a real drag to play these days because of repetitive gameplay and nothing new.. I'd really like for bungie to create a new experience for us that makes the same formula seem as if its a brand new formula... but i honestly dont see how they can do it. If the canon prevents them from expanding upon enemies, weapons, vehicles, etc. then all thats left to really change the style of gameplay is to change the player's abilities, or Tweak AI behaviour. Thats it.

Will this be enough? Can bungie really deliver us something amazing when they are so restricted already? Maybe they wont follow the books or the strict canon, and possibly bend the rules? What do you ppl think?

They can make the AI's unpredictable.

A wildlife that interactes. such as burrowing spider like monsters that snatch grunts from the surface and eat them.

A gun shooting large explosive harpoons that will stab through someone and then explode.

instead of the two colonies of "bond brother hunters" they should make just one giant hunter that is made of one large colony of worms.

throw in rpg elements such as getting promoted to a seargent and get new perks like better armor unl;ock new weapons.

should be able to use jackel shields.

should have an option of calling for reinforcements such as calling for odst's and have them drop from the sky to your location.

have the enviroment become more interactive. when you shoot a rocket at a wall, it makes a giant hole which allows you top walk through and into someones base. or a gernade that detonates creates a crater which can be used for cover.

enemies should be able to explode. when you blow up a grunt. his body parts should exploder off. Limbs should be able to be torn off when damaged.

Have the reverse of skulls. instead of making the game harder these new items make it easier such as. there is no limited amount of ammo you can carry. Enemies throw rocks instead of gernades

well the canon freaks will cry if it contradict canon in anyway

but i want new experince they should compelety re-write canon

um i would like maps that would take 5 mins to get around on foot.

I'd love to see Reach be an epic experience, with HUGE maps (think Battlefield: Bad Company scale), TONS of enemies, and TONS of allies. I want Reach to burn as thousands of Marines fight off thousands of Covenant. Pelicans and Spirits fight above us, and glassing beams turn the ground to liquid glass. You are the last of your squad. Hold the line, Spartan.

I like some of these ideas... yes, sometimes gameplay is more important than canon.. if canon were to give you a half-ass game by restricting creativity.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Keep the scope in mind. Halo 3 took itself way too seriously, and I got bored of Master Chief saving the universe against all odds, again. And again. And again.

But since we know the outcome of Reach, Bungie can play with the campaign a lot more.
