I was thinking the same thing Iamwhie. But he says he's not being kicked, but instead that the game is sending him a "The game has closed down" messge, as though the server where sending him a shuttdown.
I've done a couple of google searches since I last replied to this thread, but...I'm sorry to say that I haven't found a cause (much less the solution) for this particular problem. I'll keep looking, but in the mean time a few more questions:
1. Is this happening on specific servers? Or is this happening on ANY server you join. If this happens on your clan server, it may be a case of connection conflict. If this happens on Bungie servers, this is a problem with YOUR connection.
1.2 Along the same lines: do you play other games? If this your connection with battlefield 2 is stable...why on earth are you playing halo? JK. but if you have no problems with other PC games, this may be a Halo issue.
2. Skype is an internet calling system. If you have it enabled it may (I doubt it with a cable connection, but it's possible) be interferring with Halo PC connections.
3. Port forwarding. If NAT is an issue for your cable modem, try disabling your NAT firewall or your software firewall (ZA, Norton, etc, etc) and play with them down. Firewall could be the issue, but I don't see how with this particular case.
4. what is you ISP (Internet Service Provider). If other people have noted problems getting games to work with your ISP, we may have your solution. Swtich ISPs.
5. What are your PC specs? Lag comes from three places: the server; the distance between you and the server and other players; and inside your own PC. If your connection is great, but you're PC drops data when it tries to load a level or a particualrly intense firefight, then you might be getting "kicked" by your own PC. We don't need to know too many specifics besides graphics card. Tell us harddrive, processor, RAM (still haven't heard that one) and the video card you have. If you don't know any of that, but you know you bought a Dell for $1,200 last spring, then tell us that!. the more specific you can be the better, but any information coudl help.
6. One thing I do remember from talking to a friend of mine when cable first came to the county. cable is a lot more faster than DSL. At the time, it was about the fastest thing you could get your hands on...while it stayed up. early cable had a tendency to crash: sending an overabundance of data for a period of time, then dropping connections left right and center. now, i assume that this problem has been fixed, but it could be an issue.
One thing I'd like you to try. If your PC has a phone modem, try using dial-up for a set a couple of hours in game. You should have a back-up dial up connection with several free hours devoted to you (given by your ISP in case your cable connection crashes). Other then taking your entire gaming rig to someone elses house, this is the fastest way to find out for sure that this is a user end connection problem.
Like I said (at least i think I said) in my initial post, cable is not my strong point, and this is an odd dilema. I hope some other folks will look at this thread and share the answer, because I'm afraid I'm just shooting in the dark at this point.
EDIT: you mention in the first post that it only happens on specific servers. THIS MAY BE YOUR PROBLEM. No matter how good your PC connection is, you will have more trouble gathering data from your friend in germany thatn you will from your friend in Washington if YOU live in Virginia. Are your friends /clan local? I can't play on the PAT servers because everyone else is a west coaster while a Carolina kid.
