This sounds to me like Modern Warfare 2. Honestly the military rarely uses riot gear. Perhaps the police could have some and you could pick it up, but humans are known for not having true classes. This is one of the reasons I enjoy Halo. The three sided war has three completely different kinds of enemies. Humans which are intelligent and united. Covenant who are religious and separated by race, class and rank. And lastly the Flood, who have types more than anything.I'm using a shield as an example. Other than that this is nothing like MW2.
"Classes" isn't really a good term. Humans, as portrayed in-games, are united, sure, but not intelligent. Wouldn't you guys like to see some organization and variety?
If there are only a handful of UNSC personnel to work with in a scenario these ideas would make more sense, especially in those little skirmishes we have grown used to seeing in the Halo trilogy.
If you want the humans to be united as one big mess of friendly AI then sure, I guess that could be arranged if there's tons of guys around with you.
