I'm sure there's going to be added fun in regards to the Covenant side of things, but we're in a UNSC base after all. Do you think there should be different kinds of marines?

We have ODST's. That's cool. What would add to that is having some ODST's being snipers, and them having the helmet Romeo wears. Same goes for heavy-weapons.

We have the regular marines, and then there are sergeants (ex. Sgt. Reynolds and Sgt. Stacker) who they actually follow, like how Grunts follow Elites. That sort of thing. Make 'em more organized, you know? Bungie could just take the Covenant AI, put 'em into human models and tweak it a little so they won't be too overpowering (ex. damage reduction). These guys will still be the most commonly found.

And there are some made up UNSC ranks. I think it would be cool if there were marines with flamethrowers or some sort of mobile shield that protects against plasma. That way the marines won't just be nearly identical mindless sheep that will follow a Spartan around.

These extra humans won't be seen too often, perhaps they will scripted scenarios and the like.

Thoughts?

i hate many people, i am also like many of those people... that makes me a hypocrite
join the:
ninja acadame
the last of the warriors

hmm, interesting concept, could be easy to pull off, but i think it's humanity's uniqueness that makes it so that the marines just do what the hell they want really

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

I love this.

It would be cool to have squads of marines going around (Halo Wars?) and killing enemies instead of random single marine running around getting picked off.

Two flamethrowers running up and burning enemies out from a crevice (Those who played CoD5 would know what I'm talking about). We should have some marines hanging back and sniping for us instead of having a sniper on the ground getting owned.

Exactly. There should be tons of those random moments that should be in the game, and just like the Covenant the game can mix and match UNSC ranks in squads.

Makes it more interesting when they all hop out of a Pelican.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

This sounds to me like Modern Warfare 2. Honestly the military rarely uses riot gear. Perhaps the police could have some and you could pick it up, but humans are known for not having true classes. This is one of the reasons I enjoy Halo. The three sided war has three completely different kinds of enemies. Humans which are intelligent and united. Covenant who are religious and separated by race, class and rank. And lastly the Flood, who have types more than anything.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed, knowing better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives: not men, for flags.

Gah. I am soo tired of seeing, "This is just like *insert other popular fps here.*" or, "Why don't you just stfu and go play *insert other popular fps here.*"

Other than that part of your post, I agree with you. But OP's point is that the Humans need to be a little more united. Currently the marines don't really have any cohesive actions.

I'm using a shield as an example. Other than that this is nothing like MW2.

"Classes" isn't really a good term. Humans, as portrayed in-games, are united, sure, but not intelligent. Wouldn't you guys like to see some organization and variety?

If there are only a handful of UNSC personnel to work with in a scenario these ideas would make more sense, especially in those little skirmishes we have grown used to seeing in the Halo trilogy.

If you want the humans to be united as one big mess of friendly AI then sure, I guess that could be arranged if there's tons of guys around with you.

I think AI in general needs tweaking. From that 'Et Tu Brute?' Vidoc I watched I was quite excited for Halo 3, only to find that most of it was not implemented in the final game.

I do agree though that friendly AI needs the most work. They rush in and die, throw grenades at me, can't drive, or shoot, they just suck.

if you have any questions about halo i am one of the few people on this site who will gladly help you. Even though this account has been active for only a year, my past accounts go all the way back to 2002.

this is a good idea. I've always felt there needs to be more variety among the UNSC, and i was happy to see that nearly happen in ODST.

  • 11.01.2009 10:06 AM PDT

I can see ODST's having different classes, but not Marines. Marines are trained for about every weapon in the UNSC arsenal.

P.S.: You see a regular Marine wielding a flame thrower on the level "Flood Gate."

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

Sounds like a good idea. I think the ally AI definitely needs some work done though.
