  • 10.31.2009 12:28 PM PDT

p.s there is nothing wrong with the sticky reticle function nor any problem with halo 3 at all! most problems people find with it is due to player experience not the game being broken

  • 10.31.2009 12:30 PM PDT

no there isnt check the game options, there is every option excepty turn it off, so im saying to add this option or change the options for it in the new game

  • 10.31.2009 12:34 PM PDT

please read the posts on the first page
i not saying it's broken
the auto aim works well MOST of time
so this topic is simply trying to find the faults, so they can make it better

I don't care about the reticule moving when another player gets in the way. I can't even think of any times that's messed me up. The problem is it makes the gameplay lack skill, especially when you have a weapon like the BR as the main tactical weapon. With the burst capability and autoaim, it's harder not to get a headshot than it is to get one.

  • 10.31.2009 12:38 PM PDT

please this topic is about the auto aim and not the BR
so please go to the other topics for the OVERWHELMING BR problems

  • 10.31.2009 12:41 PM PDT

there is no BR problems period

  • 10.31.2009 12:41 PM PDT

I can talk about whatever I want to if it pertains to the topic at hand. Just because you don't read what I say or think enough about the issue to see its relevance does not make it irrelevant. Relevancy is not a relative concept. I'm not going off on the BR, but rather explaining why autoaim has some issues. The current BR setup is one thing that exacerbates the autoaim problem. The autoaim is one of the cuases in turning what should be a skillful weapon into a simple weapon (the random aspects of the BR are the other issues, but that's for the BR thread :).

The same thing was true in H2, though magnetism was also an issue there. Remember the swipe sniping? You can still do it in H3. It's a little harder, but still quite possible, as the reticule becomes "sticky" when it changes from thin air to an enemy. That takes a bit of skill not only out of the BR, but also out of the sniper and other precision weapons. While this is only one of the many issues you could discuss with autoaim, IMO, it is the one that necessitates it's address the most.

No, there isn't a problem with autoaim or the BR...if you are a casual player and don't care too much for a balanced game, accurate and fair levels, a large skill gap, and competition as well as free play.

God forbid I say the taboo "BR" word in a thread. That's the problem with most repeat threads (like yours). You don't bring anything new to the table and aren't willing or capable of discussing all the issues other than the most obvious or ranted about, leaving the real, deep issues out of the discussion.

Here is an experiment for you to understand exactly what no AA means. Go into a custom game with some friends. All of you join the same team, and then start a game and play like it is FFA. That is what Halo would play like with absolutely no aim assist.

A pad has a basic issue with aiming - its not accurate. AA counters this problem. Some games do this well (Halo 3), others do it poorly (Halo 2). But in the end it is a necessity for a console shooter.

unreal tornemnt 3 did not have auto aim (its fast paced)and i did just fine, hes not saying to have completely no aim assist but just make it lower so its not so much as the game aiming for you but just to help with accuracy because yes its pretty bad in its current state when you beat down your player will spine to the target

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

That is an issue with melee directly, not the whole game. That is outright melee homing, which I hate. Halo 3 doesn't really aim for you at all unless you are severely close to an enemy with a weapon that isn't at all accurate (SMG, PR, Spiker). Most other guns have much less magnetism.

The problem I have with Halo 3 is that the sticky aim slows down my aim sensitivity when on the players body, and pulls the crosshair in towards the player when I'm trying to lead a good battle rifle headshot. It gets very bad on the Wraith during laggy situations and pisses me off when I have to lead ahead to make up for latency.

Bungie toned down some of the aim assist after Halo 2, but they've made it worse in other ways. I've never had to fight the auto-aim in order to lead a couple pixels ahead in Halo 1.

The internet is a bad place.

In my opinion, there should be an option to turn off Auto aim or reduce it.

Made a thread and all about it.

There is a problem in the game, and not the OVEPOWERING BR problem
Its the auto aim
There is so much auto aim in the game, it ruins it.
Here is a situatin.
It's team slayer
u get into a br battle with someone, you put 3 shots into him, one more shot and he would die.
THEN his teammater runs across ur recticle
The recticle moves to the teammate,
by the time u move back to the original target
you get killed, and the guy you were shooting at is tea bagging u

IT's REALLY ANNOYING
BUNGIE please take out the AUTO AIM, or that lower it significantly, so that some people in matchmaking would not take advantage of it and use it to get cheap kills
so that the people who actually is winning wouldnt die because of a problem with the game itself

Without autoaim you would never had put 3 shots on the first guy in the first place. Little did you know.

I wouldn't take it out, but they should most definitely reduce it because in the said situation it has happened to me many times before.

I think their should be multiple options for auto-aim.

Strength of auto-aim pulling crosshair towards the body:
Bar from 0-200, and the option to type in 75. This is the only thing I want off because it messes up my leading.

Strength of magnetic bullets:
Bar from 0-200, and the option to turn it off.

How far the auto-aim follows an enemy:
Bar from 0-200, and options to type in the number or turn it off. This way if a ghost drives by the auto-aim won't pull the crosshair 3 feet away from the intended target.

Strength of auto-aim sticking to body:
Bar from 0-200. This is like in Halo 2, Shadowrun, and Halo 1 where you can put the auto-aim on the player and it will stick, but it won't pull the crosshair towards the body. So leading is possible.

All aim assist off option. On or Off.

ISU Cyclones!

I do find some situations with a sticky laser reticule messin' with me but as for the BR and precision weapons I find it to be more helpful than hindering in fact I usually don't notice it at all which I think is how it should be.

I do know that it certainly does not ruin the game though.

  • 10.31.2009 3:02 PM PDT

I think they should test the game out with 0 auto aim, meaning you have to do all aiming and see if it can still be enjoyable.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

Or how about auto aim reduces or increases based on what look sensitivity you have? At the moment auto aim caters towards players with high look sensitivities as they can easily resist the auto aim's magnetism by simply looking away. People with lower look sensitivities however - like me - find it annoying when they are aiming for someone, only to have another enemy run by posing no significant threat whatsoever, pulling them away from the target that's just about to shoot them.

I disagree. While I agree with the OP about autoaim being deleterious to skilled gameplay, I don't agree with his reasoning. The point is that autoaim makes the game easier (not harder as the OP shows with his example, though he does agree that taking it out would make the game harder). If you make it a choice, most players would choose to keep it on for its assist.

If a choice at all, it should only be for customs, not for MP. We need a better skill gap in MP to make fair and fun matches and provide competition.

You'll never know until you try~

BOO-YAH!

why don't you try turning it off.....

Bungie should implement the "Team Spelling" and "Team Grammar" hoppers immediately. You'd never make it above a 20 unless you got carried.

Because you can't. If you're going to post advice, make sure it works.

And yes... I know there's an option on the dashboard, but it does nothing in Halo.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

I support getting rid of the B.S. auto aim, not because of your reason posted, but I shouldn't be getting a bazillion headshot kills with the overpowered BR.

And yes, I r@pe with the BR thanks. (inb4uh8brbecuzusuckwithit)
