The Man,Myth,Legend

I liked firefight at first but after while it gets boring and I hope they don't put it in REACH but what do you think.

  • 10.31.2009 12:15 PM PDT

ACTA NON VERBA

I think they should, but I think it'll have to be updated.

  • 10.31.2009 12:17 PM PDT

Why So Serious?

Well that's your opinion, but i think it would be pretty interesting if they included Firefight. Like if we had the option to play it on any multiplayer map(s). It would be pretty fun to play as a Spartan in it.

  • 10.31.2009 12:17 PM PDT

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I want the mode. I also want more options and maps to go with it.

But I don't want it removed.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

Every gamer has wanted something like firefight for nearly game since...well, since games were created. I wouldn't want them to focus on something similar to Firefight (y'know, campaign and matchmaking is of course priority), but I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

  • 10.31.2009 12:17 PM PDT

I hope fire fight is in reach, but make the increasing amount of enemies (if there ever really was any) somewhat noticeable.
It seems every set/round/wave in ODST has the same amount of enemies

I disagree. They should definitely add firefight. But improve it. And especially...GIVE IT A MATCHMAKING OPTION.

  • 10.31.2009 12:21 PM PDT

[Insert Catchy Phrase here]

I would pay to be able to forge firefight maps maybe they could make it so you can play objects that are movible but not that "lock" into place like the big boxes on foundry but instead everything be like objects on last resort

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

If FireFight stays the same, it should not be in REACH, but if it is improved to where you can change the settings, and have a MM option, then it will be good. As it currently stands, it is a giant waste of space on ODSTs' main disk.

No, Firefight should be in Reach. My largest concern regarding Firefight is that it takes too long to get challenging. It usually doesn't get (for the lack of a better word)hard until the Tilt skull turns on.

If anything, the enemies are more annoying then they are hard. With Catch, they spam grenades or with Tilt they'll spawn kill you.

Firefight should be in Reach, but I'd love to see it improved.

  • 10.31.2009 12:26 PM PDT

I don't think they would have the time to put it in Reach now anyway. There's less than a year left, not even half a year until the MP Beta, and game producers usually stop work on games around a few months before release as discs need to be written, and other commercial things need to be sorted. So...there's not much time left, really.

They've been working on Reach since Halo 3. ODST, which included Firefight, was made in a little less than a year. They've had plenty time to add Firefight to Reach.

  • 10.31.2009 12:35 PM PDT

They've been working on it ever since a little while after Halo 3. They said they've had a side team working on it while another had been working on ODST. So, no.
But anyhow, I really doubt Firefight is in Reach.

And since ODST finished around May, they've all been working on Reach. Besides, being split into teams doesn't mean they didn't communicate.

QFT, and honestly... I hope FF has been scraped, and will not be in Reach. It's just taking away disk space for the Capaign, Multi-player, and the improved theatre, and the much anticipated full scale map maker. No more crappy map packs, let the players make anything that they want.

  • 10.31.2009 12:44 PM PDT

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying its most probably not in Reach.
Whatever...

Still, I had a point to add.
Whatever...

They had more people working on Reach then they did with ODST. Just because they put one new mode into one game doesn't mean they couldn't have worked that same game mode into a different game that they were making at that time. They've had plenty of time to create a Firefight game mode.

  • 10.31.2009 12:56 PM PDT

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

Boring is just a matter of execution

Problem 1: Set structure and difficulty
In ODST we already see 20+ hour Firefight matches. Many people need to play for hours to beat their previous records. In addition many are saying the game is too easy and won't get any more difficult once you get to set 5. People quit because they're bored or have to do something else. You can also get more lives than you lose which takes survival out of "survival mode"

Solution: Change the set structure. Remove or reduce the amount of unnecessary Rounds. Make it 5 waves = 1 set. Every 3rd or 5th Set you get an ammo drop and a new skull. This couldn't create any problems as the game can have "infinite sets", up to 1000 perhaps. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the Bonus Rounds either, they don't have any point because you can have as many Grunts normally as well. To make the game more difficult, remove or reduce the amount of extra lives majorly. You only get 7 lives and maybe 1 more for every 1 million points.

Result: People are more equally divided on sets. You could compare it to Matchmaking when some people have only reached Set 5 and some are on 50s. Less lives directly makes matches shorter and more difficult, brings in the survival into survival mode.

Problem 2: Lacking Haloverse
There is no Scorpion, there is no Banshee, there isn't even an officially driveable Wraith. There is no Flood, there are no Sentinels. You can't even see a Chopper and a Ghost at the same time on 1 map. You don't ever get AI allies either.

Solution: Simply add more maps that support multiple playstyles or only have a few maps (small, on-foot, Covenant) like in ODST. An example map list:
- Small: Players vs Covenant
- Medium: Players VS Covenant
- Big: Players VS Covenant
- Small: Players VS Flood
- Big: Players VS Flood
- Medium: Players VS Sentinels
- Big: Players VS Covenant and Flood
- Medium: Players VS Flood and Sentinels
- Medium: Players VS Covenant and Sentinels
- Huge: Players VS Covenant, Flood and Sentinels
The different races (Covenant, Flood, Sentinels) would battle with each other a little, but focus on the players like they do in Combat Evolved. If you only try to avoid fighting, you won't get any points. You would also get AI ally reinforcements differently on each map. On some you don't get them at all, on some you only get a few, on some you get them quite a lot; on some they are real marines, on some they are weaker police or alike.

Result: Bring all the Halo in Firefight. All the characters, weapons, vehicles and allies. They are what makes Halo. Firefight isn't canonical so having Flood even if Reach campaign doesn't have it is possible.

Problem 3: Connectivity
You need to play with friends and can't join ongoing games.
Solution: Add Matchmaking and ability to join ongoing games. The latter can't ruin anything if you can only join Open matches, your score starts from 0 and the team won't get extra lives.
Result: Matchmaking makes Firefight big and easy to access. Joining matches allows people to party up comfortably, although you probably can't reach great high scores like it.

An update, I don't mind, but to take it out completely... ew.

I love the concept idea of Fire Fight, but there needs to be some vast improvements here and there. I'd say most likely it's going to be in Halo Reach, it's just something extra to do if no one is on and your not in the mood for Multiplayer, you know?

  • 10.31.2009 3:01 PM PDT

I think they should keep it as long as they add differences to it.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

I want them to keep it, but add more flexibility to options such as turning skulls on and off, and extra options such as bonus weapon selections (the weapons found on Firefight maps such as the Rocket Launchers and Shotguns). And perhaps a set limit next time - having it go on forever just makes it feel like one of those arcade games.
