Subject: New graphics in Reach better be good!

I really hope that there are way better graphics and death animations in Halo: Reach.

What do you think?

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

Umm... CE is amazing, play it and you'll puke.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed, knowing better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives: not men, for flags.
"The Next War"

I would rather have fun, than stare at the incredible environment. Sure, graphics are great, but I don't think of them as a priority.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

This and the one above it. The graphics of Halo: CE are worse than Halo 3 but that doesn't make it a worse game.

Every time you sneeze into an open Febreze portal the boner-tree drive shaft will spin into ketchup. But it doesn't stop at the number two pizza bell, not even close. It continues into the seventy eight minute long pile of green, sobbing cheese trains with no more butter, but more like the steak owed the tin cans some lovin'.

As long as the game runs smooth. I don't want an overdeveloped engine making the online lag because it requiers a high bandwith like Gears of War.
No. Graphical quality and required bandwidth for online matches is completely unrelated.

It depends how the netcode is written, but for the most part you are right.

When the game has to render dozens of ultra high res particles because body parts and explosions are going everywhere, yeah, it lags more than usual.

You realise the netcode tells the game to render that?

hola!

graphic dont just include the looks but the feel too. the animations of a dieing spartan or covenant help make the game feel more realistic, as do the physics of the game.

Graphics are a must.

Which is why I hope they program it properly so we don't have Gears of Halo. I doubt this will even be a problem for Bungie.

It was a problem in Halo 3, ever heard of that thing called sponging? This little bastard came around due to, two stupid things. Shot leading, and bullet spread.

No it doesn't. It sends data between consoles so that they all know where everyone is and what everyone's doing in the match. The graphics and netcode are unrelated.

Yes.... it tells each console what is happening in the game, so the engine can proceed to render the graphical data....

It already has all the graphical data though. That's my original point, that the graphical quality doesn't have an effect on network lag because the graphics themselves aren't being sent anywhere.

But how hard the engine is working to process everything can still slow the game down, right? I would think that higher res graphics along with particles and other variables would strain the engine to the point where it could possibly lag more...

Or do I have no clue at all what I'm talking about?
In this case, the hardware wouldn't be able to run everything fast enough and the frame rate would drop, which can be called lag, but it's not a type of lag that's related to the network connection. This would still happen with offline games.

That's where low framerates come from.

Which would also lead to more data being sent through during online play, increasing the bandwith?
It would need to know the positions and actions of each character in the game. If your console receives data telling it that someone is shooting, and it's told where that person is and the location their bullets are hitting, your console could figure out all of the related effects like particle effects on its own.
