Would you like to see the Halo Wars Cobra in Reach?
I personally think this could have some advantages and diadvantages.

In Halo 3, we had equivilents for each side.
Mongoose/Ghost/Chopper
Prowler/Warthog
Wraith/Scorpion
Pelican/Phamtom
Banshee/Hornet

Adding a cobra would require a counterpart. The cobra was fairly long range when locked down, so I'd suggest the Locust. Close range plasma cannons whould probally have to be added to the locust, for Balence, as the cobra would effectivly have two weapons (Railgun and those two gauss cannons).

The Cobra would have to be stationary to fire the big cannon, as would the Locust. I doubt there should be a lockdown Animation for the Cobra, as it would take too long, and you wound be Vunerable to attack. The large cannon/beam would be activated by the Left trigger(Grenade Button)

I would appreciate constructive and Negative critism, as long as it is Justified

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

The wraith is already an artillery unit in Halo.

The wraith is also fairly weak as is. A Cobra would either be overpowered (2 gauss cannons? Plus an artillery cannon?), even with a long set up animation.

That kind of vehicle would slow down the gameplay, and allow exploits of non-symmetrical maps.

I would like the ideas as long as Bungie made the designs and not just run off Halo Wars designs for them.

I still don't appreciate the addition of vehicles that Halo Wars added...

The fact there are two gauss cannons may make it less accurate then the Gauss Hog. Plus the fact the Projectiles are bigger, it may be slightly slower. You could also make the recticle smaller

Cobra
Locust

I would think that a Locust shouldn't lock-down. It would just have a slight warm-up for it's gun. After all, a Cobra can still fire on the move (it's just with the smaller Gauss guns rather than its large railgun).

The locust is ugly. I wouldn't want to see that thing.

I think the cobra should be just as overwhelming as it was in Halo wars, It's anti-vehicle so it deserves to do its job.

I mean, you could slow the firing rate and the turning speed of the cannons while locked down but keep its fire power to even it out.

yea, i didnt like halo wars to much. bungie should fi it to look like it was made by bungie but with similar consepts.

a mounted cobra would be pretty cool though.

The locust could only fire while stationary. Thats why I asked for Plasma cannons on it. They would have to be rather weak though

I tried to imply the Guss cannons being able to be fired while on the move in the OP

Why exactly?

I dunno, they kinda manipulated the Halo canon which I for one didn't like.
But when I see a vehicle I want to think,"Bungie, good job." I don't want to see ideas they didn't have plans on incorporating into the games.

I see where your going with this. Both Vehicles would require a slow turning speed, but a large charge up time. I don't think the Lockdown should be in Halo Reach though

I think there should be Some kind of stopping system for the cobra though. A cannon that large and powerful firing on the move is pretty over-powered. The Cobra should at least be stationary a few seconds before it can fire its larger weapon.

Locusts actually can fire on the move I believe, nothing ever says that they have to stop to fire at any rate. Sure they never move and shoot at the same time in gameplay but that doesn't mean that they aren't capable of it.

No they didn't, not anymore than the novels at any rate. Halo Wars simply added to canon.

Game development is pretty much always "on the fly", rarely do things turn out exactly like they were originally intended. In essence what I'm saying is Bungie didn't really plan any of it.

Yes, This would be a nessesity. Same with the Locust
They should both be easily killed, but a more specialised version of the wraith and scorpion. They would need a good team to survive, so maybe enhancing teamwork at the same time

I see where your going with that. However, the BR was capable of fully automatic fire. It's more of a gameplay balance

Ensemble never came up with Warthogs or Scorpions but they adapted them to their needs and made a damn fine game with them.

Now here's Bungie looking for more stuff to add to their latest game, and here's all these concepts Ensemble came up with and they could be pretty cool even if it's only an aesthetic touch (like the F-99 Drones in ODST). Why not put some in? There isn't really much a point of making your own artillery gun if someone else already did that work right?

Don't get me wrong, I love playing Halo wars. Play it everyday like Halo 3. I dunno, I just wished that Bungie would have introduced designs of the vehicles instead of Ensemble. Then, even though it wasn't fully made by Bungie, it would be a Bungie design and not Ensemble.

  • 10.31.2009 3:13 PM PDT

I wouldn't mind the Cobra if all 3 of my conditions are met:
Take out the lockdown/Artillery mode
Make it non MM
Make it require another person to opperate the Twin Rail Guns

There's my two cents.

There were four legged Machines in the Fall Of Reach. These could of been Locusts. And Ensemble did have the Halo Bible at the time. The reason why the wolverine coudn't possibly be in Halo Reach is because the only factory producing them was destroyed about ten years earlier. That little tibbit of info does sound like a Bungie Invention

So you're talking about taking it straight from Halo Wars into Halo Reach?

Yeah, that wouldn't work. They'd have to tweak the stats, size, probably add an obvious hatch or exposed driver seat, possibly change the actual functionality (I don't know how well the lockdown mode will work with Halo gameplay), and so on.
