Construct Map Maker

Similar to Far Cry 2's. It would include a time of day changer, and you would be able to add weater effects, like lightning, snow, rain, fog, ect. Also there would be a sky colorer, so if you wanted a green sky, you could get one! You would be able to have a bar to these effects, so you could edit how hard it is (Blizard, Sandstrom, Fog amount). You could add water, snow, sand, grass, dirt, ect, and how light or dark each one is.

You would be able to place bots, and weather they stand still, walk around to certain spots, if they see you they attack (certain gametypes). You could have up to 50 bots on a map at a time.

Comments have suggested a Normal and Advaned mode, for regular forgers, and pro forgers.

There would also be a 3D Model Generator. Making bases would be cool. You choose textures, colors, ect. There would also be a way to make things, like openable bases. You choose how and where the gate goes, the switch, and what the switch says. You could make HUGE things. Now people have said 3d modeling is hard on an xbox, so there should be an Xbox Computer Mouse. It would be a mouse compatible with the xbox, but would be only compatibe with map makers.

The biggest you could make maps be is about 6x the size of sandtrap. You could make stuff like elevators, energy bridges, ladders, working pirate ships (set areas to go to, not drivable), maybe even a sculpture of a giant spartan. Possibilities would be endless (NOTE: When you make your map, you can still forge to add scenery).

When your finished, you take a screenshot of your map for the thumbnail image.

From making a futuristic city, to making a GIANT roman colusium, to making a house you would see today, but with everything bigger than you (Toy Story). If Bungie could do that, id buy Reach on the spot!

With this you get to make YOUR own map. Bungie could still make theirs, they would just be able to do more stuff with it, or sumthin.

This way people wouldn't have to keep modding maps, and getting banned from XBL, or PSN. They could make whatever their hearts desire (someone could still look over it to make sure they're appropriate).

Maybe Bungie doesn't need to make more maps. New engiene. They could make more Armor, Firefight maps (if its in reach), if there's a bonus mode, they could make campaign levels or remakes (like Pillar of Autumn, or Metropolis). This is their last Halo game. They won't be feeding us any more Halo maps soon, so they should make it so we could still have new maps ,years after they've stopped makeing them. Bungie should make thier last Halo game awesome, whether they get more money or not. The point is, the gamers will be happy, and Bungie gets higher ratings. People would buy their games in the future because of knowing how they tied off their last series. New followers. If people havent played the past Halos, but see a great trailer, they WILL buy it. Who knows? If they add a map maker, and put a teaser in the trailer, maybe more people would buy it, and they would get more money. Thoughts?

NOTE: This map maker wold be as easy to use as Far Crys is. It just has more options.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Dont forget:
Forge lets you alter maps.
This lets you create maps

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

i agree 100% i would love a map maker in reach

So basically Spore: Galactic Adventures?

  • 10.31.2009 3:13 PM PDT

I like cheese more than you
Except Blue Stilton. That stuff is nasty. As is any cheese that contains stuff other than cheese

I find the Farcry mapmaker was hard to use.
I prefer how forge is at the moment, Including all of the glitches. Just maybe easier to create huge structures.
Not saying that this isn't a bad Idea, it's just hard to use a Map-Maker on a console

Map Maker Benefits:

-Eliminates the need for buying DLC Maps
-Increases replay value
-Can make contests&events out of it
-Could have a multiplayer play list for player made maps only
--------------
Downsides:

-Bungie won't make as much money after release of Reach(no need to make maps for us, right)
-Could take awhile for everyone to download and then play
-Much more space is required to store the maps, than just photos, videos, etc.
-Only a handful of people here and there will use it to the extreme.

How to make is easy to use: Have it where you do the creating on your PC, then upload it to Bungie.net. From there, go to your console and then download it and play.

Two versions of it then I suppose? I don't know about those people, but when it comes to making things fit together and stuff a PC is much easier to work with.

Mouse + Keyboard > Controller for making a map any day.

It sounds good in theory...

Reachhhhhhhh

I was almost positive that Bungie would add a full map maker until the Pro and Con list he made. Bungie wants money, and adding this will not get them money. But I am still pro-map creator although you made a good point that you would have to load everything and it would take forever. Far Cry 2 would have been the best game ever if it were to of had all the gametype options that Halo had. Capture the Diamonds and Deathmatch got boring after a while. Also, I was excited for Far cry because of the huge possibility for amazing racetracks, but driving vehicles was so boring and horrible in the game that it just sucked.

I know it's a lot, but you should read it.

I liked your ideas until you started setting limits because of what you believe the new engine will be limited to.

For instance, why do we have to pick either Earth or Space for a map? Why can't we just start with a blank canvas with no geometry on it at all, and build upon that?

An ideal situation would be for Bungie to give us a computer-based map editor with every bit of functionality that their editor has. Make it cost $30.

This editor should let us:
-create entirely new maps out of polygons instead of a small library of objects
-script certain elements of the map to move in certain ways at certain times (to make doors, switches, subways, ferris wheels, etc...)
-allow us to modify weapons and vehicles (such as different textures, different weapons or damage, etc...)
-allows us to apply our own, custom made effects that don't ruin the map (such as a light green fog, or a thunder storm)
-export easily to the 360, but allow for play testing on the PC

If Halo Reach is Bungie's last game of the Halo series. I'd hope they'd send the series out with a bang, heh. Wit loads of new stuff, but as well the stuff we already know and love. Just as long as it feels like a new game, plays like a new game and lasts at least two years of entertainment. This feature would help keep it's lifespan going for a long time.

A god who creates tools is still a god. It is not for us to impose qualifications upon the divine or presume to guess its intentions.

If this were to happen, we would need dedicated servers for maps 6x the size of sandtrap.

When you argue about something, take the time to learn what you are actually arguing about.

The only problem with a map 6x the size of Sandtrap would be populating it with enough players. If th player limit stays the same, it shouldn't be a problem. I'd be more concerned about whether the XBox's GPU could handle such a large map, but then of course, that's why most real map creators have a FPS meter. If it goes into the red, your map is too graphically intense.

All the online code for any game should ever do is send the button presses to the other consoles, which then simulate that player's movements on every other console. Every now and then, the game also synchronizes itself. A map this large shouldn't require dedicated servers unless it's filled to the brim with thousands of movable objects.

8 v 8 on a map 6x the size of sandtrap? no sir, that would not be fun at all.

It's a really nice idea, but the fact that you would have to save an entirely new map, instead of map variants, and they are 100 megabytes a map!
Although,if they could make it so its still a map variant that would be nice.

Yeah it would, with a bunch of vehicles = havoc, or a super fast juggernaut roaming a giant field with a group of 15 hunting you.
I would find that fun.
