"You have a lot of questions. I'm going to assume that they're all hypothetical." - Urk

Dear Bungie,

for the record when the community asks you to give us an old map with the new game it means that we liked the old map/even loved it, just the way it was. A prime example of this would be Lockout which was rather unfortunately turned into Blackout (seems the same but doesnt play the same) and Avalanche. Now compare these 'reinvisioned' maps to the 'remade' maps; Heretic and Last Resort, i'd say by now its pretty obvious what im trying to say.

So please bungie when you start remaking maps from the previous Halo games for Reach please take this into account.

Recon

PS: A perfectly remade BLOOD GULCH would be nice.

The maps don't play the same because it's another engine. Halo 1 to Halo 2 to Halo 3 is totally different. You can't just "remake" a map perfectly for another game if the engine or any aspect of gameplay is drastically different. What worked for one game wont work for another even if they are the same series.

Some examples:

Blood Gulch from Halo 1 was changed in Halo 2 to Coagulation to allow for more freedom and to adjust to the new weapon set.

Zanzibar from Halo 2 changed into Last Resort in Halo 3 with slight changes to some structures to allow more movement and extreme changes to other buildings to account for the new gametypes such as VIP and Infection.

Side Winder to Avalanche is my favourite so far because the teleporters in Side Winder garunteed either tele-camping (where someone camps behind a teleporter to kill you) or a victory in Capture the Flag because once you got through one teleporter, there was no hope of seeing your flag again. Opening up the middle section allowed for multiple ways to move to your destination while keeping the teleporter trail out of the map.

Everyone I have met who wants Halo 1 or old maps back have been very closed minded. I hope you can see reason.

Ahem... you forget They made it almost EXACTLY the same Midship - Heretic and I'm talking about the actual maps themselves not the weapon layouts.

Wherever you roam
so far from home
you'll be safe from peril
life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel
and keep track of your towel.

They also made almost exactly the same Lockout.

I am Field Master Avu Med 'Telcam, Servant of the Abiding Truth, and I have many brothers.

A god who creates tools is still a god. It is not for us to impose qualifications upon the divine or presume to guess its intentions.

Well, with the addition of equipment it would be stoopid to exactly re make a halo 2 map.

I'm just saying, sometimes a straight port works, sometimes it doesn't. And you can't really tell until you release it.

thats what playtesting is for.

No matter how many hours you pour into playtesting when you release something as popular as Halo the community will best that time in a matter of minutes.

There's simply no way to playtest a port to see if it has the same "feel" as before. And really to the average (foolish, misinformed) player having the same feel is what matters most, no matter if the port is an improvement in every way.

Trolls are incapable of correct spelling or sentences with any structure at all.

I caught you red handed... I saw what you did there!

FAIL. I said it's the engine that makes it play differently. There were a few minor details that have changed such as easier jumps and more flowing movement to make gameplay faster.

As for Midship/Heretic? There are some differences, they're just very subtle. In the ViDoc they said it was as close to a perfect remake as they could get it because Halo 3 was different than Halo 2. Which has been my entire point.

Their layout is what makes them the specific map so I AM talking about the maps.

Try again, this time read what I said :P
