Poll: Do you want optional class based gametypes?  [closed]
Yes, I agree with optional classes:  55%
(46 Votes)
No, I disagree with optional classes and I READ:  42%
(35 Votes)
No, and I didn't read because I'm stupid:  4%
(3 Votes)
Total Votes: 84

Before you read any further, I would like to point out a common misunderstanding and a slight request I have.

COD4 IS NOT A FREAKING CLASS BASED GAME, AND YOU NEED TO READ THE OP BEFORE F#@$ING VOTING OR POSTING!!!

Now that that's out of the way, I'm (obviously) a supporter of adding OPTIONAL class based game types that are similar to Team Fortress 2. I do not propose touching the traditional Halo formula at all, I merely think it should be an optional playlist in custom games and matchmaking.

The main multiplayer and campaign would be left untouched, where you run around and pick up weapons off of the battlefield in game types such as Slayer and Capture the Flag. As I said before, the class based playlists and game types would be entirely optional, and can be left untouched if desired.

In class based matchmaking, Bungie would decide and balance out the classes and abilities of each pre-set class, and players would only be able to choose from the classes Bungie made. Players can not tweak with character stats or weapon selection/stats in matchmaking. Weapons (and stats obviously) would need to be balanced out for matchmaking since players choose their own starting weapons attached to their class. All of the normal game types (Slayer, CTF, ect.) would be included in class based games, with the only changes being the class choosing component and no searching for weapons.

Class based Custom Games are an entirely different story. Players would be able to create and modify their own classes for custom playlists, similar to how they change custom playlists now.

And for the third time, I'm only suggesting it as an option.

...That's pretty much it...

If you read, please vote and post even if you say "Yes" or "No". Every bump counts, even the ones that disagree with this.

(this is also a thread that has been posted before by me, but it died.)

Yes, but I wouldn't use it much. If their was optional classed-based multiplayer I hope it's UNSC vs. Covenant.

I think it'd add a whole new feeling to the Halo series. But may I say this, "This has been made several times before"

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Im up for options.

I'd check again, I'm pretty sure I posted in three other topics on this exact thing. A Optional Class based system.

Must I go on? They are all basically talking about the same thing. A Optional class based system for Halo: Reach.

He's not really talking about it being an option, more of a "I think it will go this way or that way" kind of thing. It's a prediction.Posted by: Forgewolf

This is a proposal on how he wants it to work, not an optional mode.

I also found this funny. "Though if Bungie is willing to take the idea, then I expect royalties to be paid"

Lol...

edit: I don't even think you posted on some of those threads.

It's the same stuff dude, same concept, with a single difference(not mentioning it to be option). Within those topics, people talked about, "how about it being a optional thing?"

I'm just telling you that's it's been talked about before, not trying to turn it into flamage. I'm for the idea, I'd think it'd be something new to the series, keep things fresh.

This would require a lot of programing, and different data for the same weapons.

Doesn't have to, there was discussion upon making it optional within at least two or three of those topics I provided.

Everything new to a video game is going to require a lot of programing.

In addition, since Custom Infection Games already have classes of sorts, I don't think it would be anything ground breaking.

And no offense, but that's a horrible excuse for not implementing it.

You would need two (technically) different data sets for a gun: one for the non-class gametypes, and a tuned down one for the Class Gametypes. With the sheer amount of games going on every minute, the game might make mistakes. This is what happened on the DLC Operation Anchorage for Fallout 3, regaurding to the Winterized T-51B Power Armor.

  • 10.31.2009 9:01 PM PDT

They should add a feature in custom games where you can decide which individual player gets whatever starting weapons and attributes you want.

I'm not sure about a playlist though. Everybody would want the popular more dominant (sniper, rockets) weapon sets. Could be fun though. As long as they don't change the original gameplay in other playlists.

Technically if just one of the five prove my point that it's been talked about before, I'd clearly be the victory. I don't see the point in continue arguing anyways, it's of something not of importance.

  • 10.31.2009 9:04 PM PDT

No, i would not like this because people would just start with the best weapon possible and not use anything else. For example, if there was a sniper class or heavy weapons class, who would chose anything else? The game would become boring because of all the spawn kills that would happen with those classes.

Still a lame excuse, bad DLC, or for that matter games, (Fallout 3 kicked ass, but Anchorage sucked and FL3 was more buggy than Halo 3 anyway to some degree anyway)is going to make mistakes.

If bugs happen(which I doubt serious ones for Reach will happen) Bungie is going to fix them, because they're full of hottness, and for that matter any good company will try to fix problems with their game.

I've never had that armour bug anyway.

Psssssssssssst....

Bumps and sarcasm....

Keep it a secret....

EDIT: That's acutally not true, since you displayed all five (technically four since you displayed number two twice for some reason.), all five would need to contain the suggestion "I think that this should be entirely optional".

Since I didn't read through all of them thoroughly, I'll take your word for it that that they all contain that suggestion in there somewhere. (Although one of them wasn't even about classes, so I don't think you're right anywho.)Posted by: Plasma3150

All the classes would have to be balanced out for this to be implemented, and you would have known that if you had actually READ.

Sounds good. Another year has been added on to balance out and diversify the classes.

The thing is, class-based games aren't easy. If one was in Reach, i would want to see it be like TF2. No two classes are the same in that game, with many standing in stark contrast (Medic, Spy, Engineer are like nothing else), and even the ones that are semi-similar have massive difference. Yet they all maintain balance. If find myself playing as nearly every class in that game, and if i do well as any, i am rewarded well. Sure, medic-soldier is a little unbalanced, but there's nothing like a good spy to suddenly take them out, or a pyro to eliminate the medic from the equation.

To make this true in Halo, power weapons would have to removed/balanced, and the weapon pool would have to be massively widened with medium power weapons. Along with a few traits to make diversity, this idea simply isn't very feasable for a simple side gametype.
