No, i would not like this because people would just start with the best weapon possible and not use anything else. For example, if there was a sniper class or heavy weapons class, who would chose anything else? The game would become boring because of all the spawn kills that would happen with those classes.

All the classes would have to be balanced out for this to be implemented, and you would have known that if you had actually READ.

i did read your damn post. Don't assume you know things you can't prove. If all the classes were balanced out then what would be the point of classes? Classes are for games that use a rock paper scissor style multiplayer. And Halo is far from that.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

The problem I see with this is the new playlist section would effectively half the population in each playlist (class and classic), and on slow days with low populations, your game search time would be double what it normally is. This doesn't take into account the possibility of the class system requiring larger parties, though. I think if Bungie is going to classize the game, they have to either make all the playlists classes, or severely take some existing playlists off of MM to create incentive to make people play classes.

Sounds good. Another year has been added on to balance out and diversify the classes.

The thing is, class-based games aren't easy. If one was in Reach, i would want to see it be like TF2. No two classes are the same in that game, with many standing in stark contrast (Medic, Spy, Engineer are like nothing else), and even the ones that are semi-similar have massive difference. Yet they all maintain balance. If find myself playing as nearly every class in that game, and if i do well as any, i am rewarded well. Sure, medic-soldier is a little unbalanced, but there's nothing like a good spy to suddenly take them out, or a pyro to eliminate the medic from the equation.

To make this true in Halo, power weapons would have to removed/balanced, and the weapon pool would have to be massively widened with medium power weapons. Along with a few traits to make diversity, this idea simply isn't very feasable for a simple side gametype.
Bungie has the Hottness, they can do anything.

No you didn't, because if you did, any logical person would know I don't want to change the regular Halo formula at all, and that THE ENTIRE FREAKING POINT OF THIS THREAD IS TO ADD AN OPTIONAL PLAYLIST FOR ROCK PAPER SCISSORS CLASS BASED GAMETYPES.

Would people have wanted Infection at first in Halo 2 if someone on the forums had proposed it? No, because it's DIFFERENT.

Did people want Firefight before it was announced for ODST if someone in the community suggested it? No, because it "copies" Gears of Crap 2.

Give it a god damn chance, think green eggs and ham.

Death to rank junkies.

I think it's a good idea.

  • 10.31.2009 9:57 PM PDT

Again you think i did not read what you wrote. Why do you think you know what i did or did not do? Are you at my house watching my eyes scan across this page? Please stop assuming crap you do not know.

As for class based multiplayer, It would be like adding guardian with halo's weapon loadout into Battle Field: Bad Company. It just clashes to much for my taste. Instead of wasting time with one playlist that the minority would like, they need to improve things that the majority likes.

Edit: for your comment on wanting firefight before ODST, the community did want it. There was a thread about a survival mode long before ODST was announced. Again you assume things you do not know.

Chief vs the scarab? I find that hard to believe to roundhouse boot the scarab's figurative emotion out of the gaming zone.

As long as I'm not forced to play a class-based Halo, then I'm cool with it. I'm all for options.

I don't know about you, but I've never had problems with finding people in Halo 3's matchmaking, even on "slow" days. I've had problems with Halo 2 once, but that was when I tried to find people only a few months ago when no one was playing.

Also the population being halfed wouldn't really be a problem, the population already has its prefered matchmaking playlists, I never have problems finding people even in the low population lists.

Yes I am watching your eyes, and there were a ton of people that didn't want Firefight, I don't know that exact number, but there were a lot. Like a lot a lot a lot.

i guess this idea is fun and new, but halo needs to stay oiginal. even if bungie considered this and it became apart of reach, i wouldnt use it much. it would be perfect as a custom game ONLY game type or maybe a double exp playlist, but not a part of regular matchmaking.

*waits 10 seconds to calm down*

i'm sorry, but no frickin way.

*waits 10 more seconds*

*hits punching bag to release anger*

i have many reasons why it would be bad:

1. ruins uniqueness of weapons: Eg; whats the point of a sniper/laser/shotty if everyone has one? nobody has to fight over it anymore.

2. makes it hard to truly show skill: Eg; if your class means that you can't run as fast, then that means that it will be harder to run away or whatever

3. can't pick up weapons: Eg; if you CAN pick up weapons, then whats the point of having classes anyways? if you CANT, then i'll just get stuck in a corner with an empty rocket launcher and i wont be able to defend myself because i only have a pistol and they have shottys.

4. vehicles are worthless, or almost worthless: Eg; imagine you just got a banshee. then, you kill a guy, he gets angry, spawns with a rocket launcher/laser/new heavy weapon and blows you out of the sky, you may as well just be on foot.

5. FFA will be STUPID: EVERYONE WILL HAVE POWER WEAPONS AND IT WILL SUCK!! also, special classes ("medic", "Engineer", ETC) will be pointless too.

oh, and as far as CUSTOMIZING THEM?? utter INSANTIY!

  • 10.31.2009 11:40 PM PDT

it a great idea, until people take advantage of it.
when halo 3 came out, not everybody used the BR every second, but after 3 years of gameplay, u cant even find a single page of forum topics complaining about the BR
here is my prediction
it will work out perfectly as bungie tested,
but no way they would test MP for a year to find the habits of players so by the time people are used to the game,
the only class chosen will be the snipers, since its basically the shotgun, med range, and long range
im not saying everyone will do this, only the people who are addicted it and can unscope u across the map will do that, and apparent there are alot of them in HALO 3 MP

Beware the smiley face! =D

Although I like the idea of classes being an optional feature in some gametypes, I dont think it would really be worthwhile putting classes in the game.

And I am confused as to how CoD4 ISNT a class based game? Classes pretty much define the gameplay, although at least unlike CoD WaW new players have some decent weapons (M16,MP5,M40A3) and the only decent low level wepaon on WaW is the MP40, which is plain overpowered.

Thats why i prefer halo really. CoD is just a mass slaughtering of noobs, non-prestigers, casual players and people who cant mod.

Call of Duty has customizable weapon load-outs, not classes.

In a true class-based game like Team Fortress 2, classes are balanced amongst each other, no class is better than the other. And the classes are unique (not just in terms of weapons, but health, player speed, etc).

So, based on your asinine description, you've obviously never played a class based game. Come back when you do.

Keep in mind I'm only proposing it as an option, and class based games usually don't have FFA.

It also got a lot of opposition from players, that was my point. In fact the some of the first posts are basically "Lol no geerz uv war lolol"

Firefight was also an OPTION for people who wanted it, and Bungie put it in.

Looking to hook up with some competent players! Please PM me if you want a decent team mate, looking to learn from good players and impart what I know to the team too. Im sick of going 'randy' and getting betrayed for the sniper etc.. and having to put up with BK team mates

No I like the freedom of being any class I choose by simply picking up a weapon. For organised team games, usually the members get weapons that are based on their strengths so in someway you have the presence of classes anyway such as the Leader, support, specialist or CQB, each one of these so called 'classes' usually uses certain weapons that pertain to their class for example CQB, shot gun, mauler, stickies etc...

Like I said I like the freedom Halo gives us as it is. And it would be pointless having a game type that restricts this freedom

Halo doesn't have much freedom, it is first come first serve game play, and I'm sick of having a noob grab a shotty then waste it rushing into the enemy base. This idea is also only an OPTION, no one would be touching Halo's classic formula, which kicks ass by the way, but I've used it enough so I'm pretty sick of it.

Classes also do exist in a small way in Halo, so please don't give me that bull s#$% that they have no place here.

Infection games can have people starting with different weapons and stats. However its not nearly in depth enough to be considered a true class based game type, it only supports a maximum of three different classes (Human, infected, alpha) and you're forced to become infected when you are killed by one.

Shining Wolf, none of your 'excuses' are valid. Bungie isn't full of 'hotness' and can't make anything your tiny incomprehensible mind thinks of. Bungie is like any other game studio who try their best and fail at some point. Don't you go saying show me proof where Bungie failed because it is right in front of your eyes.

Five games is nothing, I've played the Halo games for a looooong time, and an extra option for class based games wouldn't hurt anyone, and it would probably bring in more players than it would shoo away.

I'm sorry, but I want to try Oranges after eating Apples for years.

Although I do stand by my point that you must have sucked at TF2.
