Are you talking about choosing perks? That's Call of Nooby. Traits sound more like perks.

But the X and Y thing sounds kind of cool for asymmetrical games.

No I like the freedom of being any class I choose by simply picking up a weapon. For organised team games, usually the members get weapons that are based on their strengths so in someway you have the presence of classes anyway such as the Leader, support, specialist or CQB, each one of these so called 'classes' usually uses certain weapons that pertain to their class for example CQB, shot gun, mauler, stickies etc...

Like I said I like the freedom Halo gives us as it is. And it would be pointless having a game type that restricts this freedom
Halo doesn't have much freedom, it is first come first serve game play, and I'm sick of having a noob grab a shotty then waste it rushing into the enemy base. This idea is also only an OPTION, no one would be touching Halo's classic formula, which kicks ass by the way, but I've used it enough so I'm pretty sick of it.

Classes also do exist in a small way in Halo, so please don't give me that bull s#$% that they have no place here.

Infection games can have people starting with different weapons and stats. However its not nearly in depth enough to be considered a true class based game type, it only supports a maximum of three different classes (Human, infected, alpha) and you're forced to become infected when you are killed by one.

Where do I say classes have no place in Halo? The class you become is determined by the weapons you choose and role you play in the team dynamic, not by being restricted by spawning with a set type of weapon.

As for your claim that your sick of the 'noobs rushing into the base with the shotgun and wasting it', well two things - it will respawn and, why don't you go in with a party and communicate with each other? Strategize, plan your fight.

The last thing I would say is if you like the COD class based formula so much and your sick of halos 'classic formula', go play COD.

What you're describing with the pick up and play isn't classes, its the rush for the power weapon game.

I don't want to have to wait for the shotty because I like using the shotty, and do you ever come across teams that organized?

Ever? The only alternative is to pretty much team kill or say "Oh can I please have the shotgun mister?" As nice as you can and have them ignore you.

And once again, YOU DON'T HAVE TO FREAKING PLAY CLASS BASED GAMETYPES IF YOU DON'T WANT, you can have your rush for the power weapons game.

If Bungie wanted to make a class-based game, they could. However, classes takes a whole -blam!-load of balancing, and is nearly impossible. TF2 is the most perfected class-based game, but look at all the failed attempts (LotR: Conquest). I would like Bungie to make a class-based game, but it would be a dedicated class-based game.

Also, a lot of people prefer uniform games to class-based. In class-based, there is a lot of variables, and a lot of things to master, vs. the more simple and straight-forward uniform approach. Calling someone bad because of their prefrences is just stupid.

As pleasing as it sounds to both sides of the argument to have a class and classic mm would by the time H:R reaches it's medieval life having the two playlists would divide the community too much or be a waste of servers for one of the playlists and would eventually get shut down.

not to mention the how hard it would be to balance the weapons in a way that both classic-halo and class-based games would both work. Just saying EPIC FAIL!

i have many reasons why it would be bad:

1. ruins uniqueness of weapons: Eg; whats the point of a sniper/laser/shotty if everyone has one? nobody has to fight over it anymore.

2. makes it hard to truly show skill: Eg; if your class means that you can't run as fast, then that means that it will be harder to run away or whatever

3. can't pick up weapons: Eg; if you CAN pick up weapons, then whats the point of having classes anyways? if you CANT, then i'll just get stuck in a corner with an empty rocket launcher and i wont be able to defend myself because i only have a pistol and they have shottys.

4. vehicles are worthless, or almost worthless: Eg; imagine you just got a banshee. then, you kill a guy, he gets angry, spawns with a rocket launcher/laser/new heavy weapon and blows you out of the sky, you may as well just be on foot.

5. FFA will be STUPID: EVERYONE WILL HAVE POWER WEAPONS AND IT WILL SUCK!! also, special classes ("medic", "Engineer", ETC) will be pointless too.


oh, and as far as CUSTOMIZING THEM?? utter INSANTIY!
So, based on your asinine description, you've obviously never played a class based game. Come back when you do.

Keep in mind I'm only proposing it as an option, and class based games usually don't have FFA.


Look, I don't see why my reasons are not legit, and insulting me without a true rebuttal means that your point is left undefended. And yes, i have played starwars battlefront, and that is truly class based, isn't it?

I will basically restate them here:

1. Anybody can basically spawn with anything- so power weapons are no longer highly coveted and fought over.

2. If you can't run as fast, then that means that ghost will splatter you because you picked "heavy" and can't get out of the damn road fast enough. in Halo, we are spartans, so we should be able to do everything well, even if we are carrying a rocket launcher.

3. Basically, if you can pick up weapons, then it can become pretty frickin' unbalanced pretty frickin' quick. you could have a "scout" class that runs super fast with a rocket launcher, and just basically have speedy rocket -blam-(s) running everywhere and blowing -blam- up. or a super high health shoty guy. also, if you can't pick guns up, wierd weapons that don't fit in wil not be able to have a place in the game.

4. Okay, maybe if you toned down the laser/rockets a bit to make them pathetic shadows of thier former selves, then yes, vehicles could have a point.

5. I can't think of another way to say this, and i don't have to because your entire argument was "your argument is utterly foolish", which is asinine in itself.

Classes and abilities are tied to their weapon starts, and you usually can't pick up weapons on the battlefield in class based games. Its kind of the point to not have uber powerful weapons in class based games.

Vehicles can basically kill anyone anyway short of a good Spartan Laser shot or Missle Pod. All classes except the class that is DESIGNED to pwn vehicles should be a counter, and its not like a Heavy class will have a walk in the park with killing vehicles anyway.

Laser is fine, its not like you don't see that obvious and loud red laser following you. Missle Pods are useless against players most of the time anyway, but yeah I think they would have to be toned down a bit. And all the weapons would have to be reconfigured for classes anyway.

The community being divided happens with ALL different gametypes, its not like people aren't going to have preferances, and its not much of a big deal even if playlists start to become less populated (WHICH THEY WON'T).

The class allocation is up to those in the team, if some one beats you to the shot gun, tough luck, wait for it respawn. You will become a better all round player anyway if your forced to use certain weapon types depending on whats available, other then being a certain class that manditorily spawns with a certain type of weapon.

I guess your right in a way, there is nothing that actually says that you are a certain class, hence the freedom of being able to choose what weapon you want to use depending on it being available.

Classes can be allocated by well organised team players. As I said before, usually there's a leader, there's support, a specialist and CQB, not always in that order or discounting one or another depending on the situation.

2. eg: there is a ghost/gauss hog on the loose.

CLASS BASED: somebody dies, shot by the vehicle. that person spawns with a laser/rocket and kills the vehicle instantly.

TRADITIONAL: somebody dies, shot by the vehicle. they then proceed to get revenge through actual tactics, you know, plasma pistol, power drain, frag grenades, and FIGHTING FOR the power weapons. more skill this way, and vehicles are more relevant.

3. what about my sentinel beam? will it get cut?

oh, and my clan isn't "too much work". also, we delegate weapons to certain tasks, eg; shotty goes to defense, rockets to assault, laser/sniper to rifles, etc.

Are you kidding me? I never ever ever ever get killed with anything in a vehicle other than a Spartan Laser or Missle Pod. I must be godly or something, because that's all that can counter me driving a vehicle, and vice versa.

Chances are, vehicles wouldn't be one hit kill with Heavy's weapons anyway so there would be an actual battle going on instead of just a vehicle sniping spree.

The community being divided happens with ALL different gametypes, its not like people aren't going to have preferances, and its not much of a big deal even if playlists start to become less populated (WHICH THEY WON'T).
