My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Before ODST came out, we were told Hunters were finally the way they were always meant to be. To quote Lukems:

"In Halo 3 when you saw a Hunter it was like 'oh... it's a Hunter...' but in ODST when you see a Hunter you're like 'o...oh my God... it's a Hunter'.

Sadly, I never felt that way when I saw a Hunter. One ODST is not supposed to kill two Hunters and even a Spartan has troubles in the books.

In Reach:

1.) Make the Hunters the way they need to be. Give them more than twice the health (Hunters are actually scary when Mythic skull is on).

2.) Give Hunters more combat moves. One reason they are so easy is because they know maybe 4-5 moves.

3.) Make it so when you get behind one you have a chance of being punished for it by their spines. In the books, those spines can rip through Spartans with ease.

4.) *EDIT* I cannot believe I forgot this one. Anyone who has read the books knows how pissed off a Hunter gets if you kill his Bond Brother. Make the Hunters fight harder when their Bond Brother is killed.

That should be all to finally give Hunters what they finally deserve.

Buck: "Ugh Hunters?? I do NOT have time for this!"
Me: "I know you love Dare, but I'm sure you can take 5 seconds out of your day."

if you have any questions about halo i am one of the few people on this site who will gladly help you. Even though this account has been active for only a year, my past accounts go all the way back to 2002.

perhaps you never tried to beat the game solo on legendary, because i did, and when i saw a hunter, I got scared.

although i like all your ideas except the extra health. On legendary they take quite long enough to kill.

Yeah, especially, in ODST, when you haven't seen a health pack for the last 10 minutes.

I have completed the game on Legendary multiple times. I never got scared. The only thing Hunters do is consume your grenade count.

they should have more blood-lust, like if you sneak up on one it will go mad and try to rip you apart or if a fight with the hunters goes on for too long, the hunters just suddenly charge at you.

Thank you for reminding me. I made a fourth proposal in my OP.

Read it over and I agree. They need more moves and the spikes need to do damage. I always wanted the bond brother thing too.

  • 11.01.2009 11:01 AM PDT

Your friend is not a reliable source of information

yeah hunters are too easy, I always think, "oh a hunter, just move counterclockwise around it while shooting it in the back till it dies." Not very fear inspiring...

It would also be awesome if they had their own finisher moves. Crush a Marine/ODST's head with his massive boot or something (idea taken from Halo: The Flood).

the hunters melee should be a one hit kill even on easy.

I am a Halo 3 Failure.

Hunters aren't scary in ODST. I was playing the first mission with Buck, solo on Heroic. I went into a building, and the Hunters followed, and I was like "Oh, they can do that?" and then I shotgunned them and dodged them, then they died and I went on with my life.

The End.

I like idea #4, pretty smart idea, I kinda amazed Bungie didn't already do it in Halo 3.

I've got tale that's never been told. Get to grips and handle your soul, 'cause I've got a tale that's never been told.

I get more of a "Oh crap, hunters" feeling. Then it turns into the routine of flanking and hitting the soft spot in the back, or as many sticks as I can on them.

But even with these ideas, I don't know if they would actually scare us.

Hunters arnt all that bad to fight for some reason, more of a inconvience. A couple ideas, they have gigantic shields, so why is it when they hit you you just shrug it off, you should be stunned, like when you get hijacked. Another reason hunters are easy is because they're so slow to attack, you can easily just run circles around them, and theyll be to slow to hit you. They should have some sort of fast melle attack to make it hard to run circles around them.

I agree, although I actually feel they were at their best in H3, and that in ODST they degenerated, at least in firefight anyway, in the first Buck level, I found them tediously deadly.
I think that they should be able to still shoot at close range, thats their let down, if you get to a certain distance you are out of Reach (!) but they refuse to shoot you either.

I thought they were pretty fear-inspiring on legendary. Just one would waste all of my nades and I still had another to deal with. I think their beam just needs to be more powerful. I have never been killed by it, probably haven't even lost half of my shields from it. Maybe the beam should slow you down, so getting hit by it makes it more likely to get hit even more.

Yes Hunters do need to be feared more like more combat moves and when a bond brother dies one should go crazy and take you down.

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

Perhaps you need to learn how to fight Hunters, because I did and it was easy, even on Legendary Solo.

And OP, you raise some good points, I hope Bungie considers making Hunters harder to fight...

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

Are you kidding me? In Halo 3 on Heroic, I could beat 2 hunters with just a Carbine or BR, due to the fact that you can dodge them like crazy. They charge you? Jump over them. They shoot? Just strafe: you're too fast for their shots to follow.

In ODST, you can't jump over them, their melee range is increased, and they seem to be a lot more aggressive. Yeah, grenades work wonders, and so do rockets, fuel rods and lasers, but if you lack any of those, you're screwed.

They reason that the Spartans had such a hard time with hunters in the books is:
A.) They hadn't faced them before, and thus didn't know how to kill them. Plus...
B.) They were poorly equipped. MA5B's against their front side didn't do much, and since the lack of experience with them meant they may not have known weapon effectiveness, weak spots, etc. they had a hard time. By the time the UNSC had figured out how to kill them, Reach was done. In Halo: CE, you always had some kind of weapon for hunters. (Sniper, Rockets, etc.)

The reason that you can kill them with a certain degree of ease as an ODST is because you've killed hundreds before in past games. All you had to do is spam them with explosives or power weapons, regular bullets don't do much.

I do agree with some of your suggested changes, though. More health, (though 2x would be ridiculous, that's what Mythic is for) a special melee with their spines would be sweet, and some more moves would be cool. Bring them to life. But I think the best way to make them hard would be the same way the books did. When you first meet them, it should truly be a shocking moment: you have small arms, you're either low on or out of grenades, and both your team and the Hunters have their backs to the wall. Inside a building.

Give me an Assault Rifle and I'll drop Hunters. In the books they struggled against them because the Hunters are HUGE. They have more than one fighting style, and they were actually insanely fast.

Hunters are an annoyance right now. They are like Drones, but Drones waste your weapon ammo and Hunters waste your grenades.
