I agree with everything in the OP. They seemed a little tougher in ODST due to the player being slightly less mobile and everything having more health, but otherwise they still fall easily to repeated melee attacks from a Brute weapon which cause flinching allowing an easy loop to be set up.
Then again, at least they don't die from a single Pistol shot like in CE. :-P

Anyone ever notice that when we fight Hunters it's always only two? How about they deploy some hunters right when we're in combat with some elites and jackals, that should make things interesting.

They should inspire the kind of fear you feel when you see a tank in L4D.

  • 11.01.2009 3:13 PM PDT

I think they should make them able to be controlled by flood, that would scare the sh** out of me

Hunters can't be infected by the flood, I think it has either something to do with the fact they're a bunch of worms combined into one suit of armor or something about boren syndrome

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

When did the Flood come into this? Flood should not be in Reach, haha...

Why So Serious?

My friend, play the game on legendary with the mythic skull on. Those variants of the Hunters can really strike fear into player's hearts.

Before ODST came out, we were told Hunters were finally the way they were always meant to be. To quote Lukems:

"In Halo 3 when you saw a Hunter it was like 'oh... it's a Hunter...' but in ODST when you see a Hunter you're like 'o...oh my God... it's a Hunter'.

Sadly, I never felt that way when I saw a Hunter. One ODST is not supposed to kill two Hunters and even a Spartan has troubles in the books.

first of all, a odst can kill 2 hunters odst arent normal marines there the best, secondly maby u where not scared of the hunter because u where on easy on legendary they are a HUGE threat

I have played more campaign than any one person should. I have completed the game with the Mythic skull activated on Legendary.

To the other guy... same thing applies. And no, an ODST is not supposed to take down one Hunter, let alone two.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Hunters in ODST:

Huh. Well, since they couldn't find a legitimate way of making them more difficult, I guess their melee attacks now get area of effect!

Its the same with the Brutes. Invulnerability, immunity to stickies.

blarg.

We should look on the bright side. Halo CE hunters haven't made a comeback.

Wait, another thing. People are saying there SCARED of a hunter. I, mean, seriously, it's just a fictional character! Even if Bungie made Hunters the way this guy suggested, I wouldn't -blam!- my pants in fear.I'd just die a couple of times and move on.

You do know they could just give them instant kill aimbot powers? Seems to me long arms and swifter spin attacks are more legitimate than making the games enemies cheap in other ways. They could easily force the player to waste all their ammo and grenades just to kill one hunter. Maybe you would like weaker grenades or less grenades and snipers in the areas where hunters appear? Perhaps Bungie should just find some story technique and strip the player of sandbox possibilities like grenades and snipers before they encounter Hunters.

exactly! i remember in halo 1, seeing a hunter was incredible, the way they made a monster like that back in classic xbox days? it was intense sometimes!
they need to keep it coming, just like how they changed elites to brutes, it was brilliant, something stronger and with more of a bond to its squad members? flawless.
bring out more hunter races, should be newer races of all the covenant, but i think that new hunter races would be the most looked forward too

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Honestly, just giving them about quadruple the health would help a bit.

Honestly I dont think the hunters need more health. I do think that they should be stronger and smarter. Now if they Were quicker that would be nice and that spot where the armor is missing on the back maybe they should add the armor but make it detachable so a well place grenade or a clip of ammo could knock it off. so that if you dont have large weapons you could still kill it but it wouldnt be as easy... I can walk around a hunter in ODST and melee it to death it just takes time. So make em faster and add that armor

I remember in CE, the first time I saw a hunter. "FFFFUUUUUUU"

  • 11.01.2009 10:54 PM PDT

Were it so easy.

I agree for the most part, but if you have played Halo 2 you would see that Halo 3's hunters are a big step up since in Halo 2 I could take out 2 hunters in about 3 seconds with a sniper.

But yeah, having a bigger move set, and being more aggressive when the partner dies are good ideas.

perhaps you never tried to beat the game solo on legendary, because i did, and when i saw a hunter, I got scared.

Yeah, especially, in ODST, when you haven't seen a health pack for the last 10 minutes.

That seriously makes me furious sometimes.

  • 11.01.2009 11:03 PM PDT

You kiddin' me? Hunters make me crap myself in ODST. I always try to avoid them in the Mombasa Streets. God they're powerful.

=)

They did have instant kill attacks. And Im talking about how even though their shields don't come anywhere near your player model, you take damage.

Sure, make them faster. Make them do stuff. But let it make sense, in that you are HIT when you are HIT.

And are you kidding?

Elites never needed invincibility or immunity to sticky grenades to be challenging. Bungie has made enemies tough before without cheating for brutes, or what you suggest. You act like there is no way to make an enemy tougher while remaining fair.

I think the only way to make Hunters inspire fear for me, is to dress them up like clowns. I'm only afraid of clowns and heights.

bottom line. They are too easy to kill. The reason you are not fearful of them is because you know how to kill them easily. You know what to expect. Rockets/fuel rod/shotgun etc. What happens when 2 Chieftans walk in the room? Oh $x!t!!! They are unpredictable with their over-shields, very fast and agile.. They can easily kill 2-3 of your buddies. Solution: Hunters need to be unpredictable.
