Hey, yeah yeah I'm a mod and you haven't seen me before etc, so I'll just get that out of the way... ;)

I'm just wondering if anyone has played Halo 2 Vista on a Mac using Bootcamp and if it has worked and if there are any issues I should know about.

I have a 24" iMac, about a year old.

(I searched, but all the threads were old and did not have any definitive answers)

What are the specs of your Mac? I google'd H2V and Boot camp, but I couldn't find anything on it, that would lead to a yes or no answer

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Ask Dirk. He's crazy enough to use a Mac. I don't think he plays H2, though.

Or you could buy a PC.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

There will be no mac only issues, unless your mac has intel graphics (look in device manager under display adapters, it wont work if it says something like intel chipset under video adapters)

Well, I doubt it. I think there is a reason it was called halo 2 VISTA. I know it doesn't work on anything lower, and I don't think it will work on a MAC OS. So that would be a no :p

Bootcamp is an application on Mac OS that allows you to install other operating systems on the computer. Using Bootcamp I now have Windows Vista installed on my iMac.

So yes, it may be possible. I will probably be able to test it out tomorrow and I'll post in here if it worked.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Yes, it will work.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Ah sorry. I didn't know what bootcamp was :p I don't use Mac, but if that's the case, then yes. But I'd skip Vista and go for Windows 7. It's much faster, and Halo 2 will still run on it.

1. Not everyone can afford 7.
2. Halo 2 has issues running on seven.

I'm just a guy like you that plays halo.

Well with Vista installed on your Mac it isn't a Mac as Macs are only Macs if they have Mac software! So really Vista Operating system + Computer Hardware is a PC.

=D

NO, it's still a Mac if your using Bootcamp. You're just using a Mac computer and not using a Mac OS.

Mac computer + Windows OS/Mac OS = Mac computer running either Mac or Windows OS

Ok... I installed it just before and... It works perfectly!!! :D

@ i Conker, do you mean parallels or VMware? I tried installing it on a virtual machine and it failed.

For the record, if you have a relatively new iMac Halo 2 Vista will work perfectly using BootCamp.

Thanks for the help, guys.

Nether. I meant this application that can let you use windows applications without windows. the site for everything involved with crossover can be found here. But be warned not every application can run on crossover. (just the record it will run steam on mac almost flawlessly.)

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Maybe I would have had better luck running Halo 2 on a Mac. >:|

If you try multiplayer and it gives you problems Skibur, maybe you can help us get it working.

I don't have a reliable internet connection at the moment, so I won't be trying MP, but I'll let you know how it works when I do.

Should work - after all, all Mac hardware is magically supported on Windows. Even though not all hardware is supported by OSX.

Daodan Latency at 65%

Skibur, boot into OS X, login and go to the apple menu in the menubar (upper left).
Goto "About this Mac" and a window should pop up. Click the "More Info..." button on it and goto the listed item named "Graphics/Displays". This will tell you what graphics card you have. I am guessing it will be a higher end one for the time because it is a larger monitor size. From there just google some performance reviews of Halo 2 on that graphics card. If you can run Vista without it bogging down because of not enough RAM then you should be fine, and I am going to guess that the iMac is a 3.*Ghz Core Duo, so that should not be a problem either. Installing into bootcamp and playing should work perfectly fine. Crossover Games does not currently support Halo 2 and neither does VMware Fusion 2. I don't have Parallels so I cannot comment on that, but if you need anymore help just send me a PM. I would be happy to help and I am pretty much the go to person for anything Mac.

Crossover Games does not currently support Halo 2.

Well that doesn't stop people (all 4 of them) from trying anyway.
