The way people type usually reflects on how smart, old, or caring of the forum they are. For instance if someone types "OMG i ThiNK Haloe @ IS tEH SUxxORZ", you will assume they have some severe mental deffeciencies. While if one takes the time to spell correctly and use proper grammer, you will give their posts more thought and take their opinions more seriously. I know this doesn't apply to all, because a spammer could have perfect grammar but also be a complete -blam!-. Or a person that doesn't care about how they type could be actually quite insightful and mature. Here is where I find the problem. If a person doesn't take the time to spell even the simplest of words, such as "you", their opinions should be obselete. Why should we try and lower our intellegence or squint to read a post when they person didn't take the time to spell or use grammar. I'm tired of being lenient to idiots. Anyone agree?

Um... I sort of agree. I would sure hate to meet some of the people here in person! That would be horrible, maybe we should have a 'post pictures of yourself' post, anyone want to donate bandwidth? :)

Well... I think threads should be locked if you can't understand what they are saying. I mean, I hate reading Internet Shorthand.

I agree with Mr. Topic Creator. I take posts more seriously when they have correct grammar and spelling. I just get distracted by errors easily so it slows me down.

Just kidding.... don't ban me... I accually agree.. but it dosn't really slow me down, i've lived with it for quite some time.

I personally think its happening with our real speech too. It you'sed to be: Hello. Then: Hi, Yo. Then almost a grunt and a nod.
And Goodbye. turned into bye, then another grunt... I think in the near future our speech will a series of grunts and nods.

I always type like this but there are very few of us who do.Most of my friends don't do it but they don't talk like a retarded monkey either.Example-"i lieks u w1ll u b me fr1end?"With the numbers..Now that's annoying. It's not like using "u, r and b" It's just wasting more time by adding a letter when the same amount of time could be used to write the letter. Anyway you should give alot of them a chance and don't think too harshly of them. Some of them are really cool.

I love you all, take care, peace.

Not completely true. I'm extremely lazy, yet I don't take the time to type like that. I've been working hard on my "idiot typing" skills, but it takes too long to translate from respectable to moron.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

There was a thread in the Underground a while back (last year) that dealt with the relationship between age and the bad grammar in these forums... a few months after the site changed, but before the Underground turned into a total spamfest. Ultimately, the age relationship was shot down, but the discussion was still a decent one, much intelligence involved (and a bit of flaming from the less mature participants in the thread). I'll Make a thread with a link to it when I find it.

There are varying degrees of laziness. From one to ten, ten being the worst, you are a five on the lazy scale. You have to be past eight to be to the point where people can't even read what you are trying to say.

You made a scale?! Heh... I guess you'd rank close to one on that scale... taking the time to think it up and all.

I'm so lazy I'm not even going to finis

Tough call on this one. I would stipulate that the person who learns English langauge well enough to articulate a decent sentence using proper grammar will, 9 times out of 10, be smarter than his 1337 speaking counterpart.

I have noted that 1337 users have a hard time getting to their main idea. I don't have a specific post to reference to, but feel free to check out NM or Zanzi, those places are replete with said individuals. I kinda wish there was a "code of conduct" for posting aside form the usual, 'NO politics, swearing, etc.'

On the other hand, there are those who do contribute good ideas and stimulating threads despite being rather inept at basic grammar and spelling. And at this point, I would still prefer to have them around instead of forcing them to leave like pariahs. I'll continue to harass their communication style, but truth be told, I'll listen to them as well.

I always use proper grammer as i cant stand internet shorthand or for that matter understand most of it. If i post and notice a spelling mistake i always have to go back and edit my post, even to the extent of putting two spaces after all my full stops. So if you see this as edited you know that all my words are spelled correctly, hopefully.

I'm certifiable.

I don't follow with the laziness theory... I find it *hard* to type in 1337. Now, that may be because I'm a touch-typist; perhaps there isn't that big effort-spike between 1337-5P33k and the two-fingered typist.

Still, you have to invent the new spellings as you go. Then again, maybe they *have* to invent the new spellings every time, not knowing the *old* spellings.

And then trying to decypher the post when previewing to make sure it makes sense... oh, yeah, they don't preview before posting.

Maybe the laziness thing has merit after all... it just carries over into more than just the act of posting.

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

I think a system to crack down on grammer would be useful. Like a warning system where if you cannot post literate sentances , you would eventually be banned. like a 5 strike system.

Thats a bit harsh but i always find that if the poster cant spell or uses "1337" speak then there post isn't worth reading. It helps me to filter out some of the rubbish.
