Subject: why are pelicans always shot down??

i noticed through out all the halo games pelicans are always shot down by banshees or something. heres my examples:

halo 1
-the ending the last remaining pelican is shot down by bashees.
halo 2
-the super scarab shoots down 2 pelicans in the begining.
halo 2
- the flood brings down a pelican in the last MC mission.
halo 3
-in the first mission banshees shoot down the pelican with johnson in it.
halo 3
- in the arc video clip a pelican is destroyed by a banshee coming by befor landing.
halo 3
-in the covenent mission a pelican is shot down during the landing by a anti-air wraith.
ODST
-in the mission with romeo the police pelican is shot down by banshees.

this doesnt count but the pelican is nearly destroyed in cortana, the pelican smashed into the snow and i noticed it took a bit of damage.

also this isnt a thread about complaining, i hate those threads and i dont feel like adding to it. dont you think this happens a little too much? im sure theres some others i forgot about. what do you think about it?

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

I guess they could have cut down on the Pelican crashes. But when you're in this huge, ugly plane with stout wings, you just want to shoot it down.

It's just too damn ugly to let live.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

I don't mind if the pelicans get shot down, I just want to actually experience a pelican crashing, and not it going to cut scene right before it.

Yeah i agree with pelicans crashing alot i want to actualy see what the are good for they realy dont do -blam!- and did anyone notice they can fly in space? wtf there a troop transport vehicle yeah they can fly but honastly being able to escape a planets gravity. I would liike them to be taken out all together along with hornets because well i just hate hornets and wish bungie never thought of them

please tell me in which scene does a pelican actually physically escapes a planets gravity?

calm down kid.

The Mike

now that you mention it, it does happen a lot.
Note to self: never fly in a pelican.
I hope they have airbags..... or a five star crash rating......................

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the original forum poster's avatar is a pelican?

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed, knowing better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives: not men, for flags.
"The Next War"

Actually, Pelicans can go in and out of planet's atmospheres. Need I remind you that this is 500 years in the future, with most technological advances being towards space travel. It seems reasonable that they could have small ships that do this.

Info is from the books if you're wondering.

It's just a shooter cliche.
Gears of war is the same way with its helicopters.

  • 11.01.2009 7:32 PM PDT

I've mentioned this in several forums, except for this.

There is a crashed Pelican in every level of Halo 3 and there's a bunch of crashed Pelicans in Halo 3 maps... Pelicans are shot down a lot in Halo Wars, and yeah UNSC pilots really suck.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Big, slow target that is used to bring people to and from the battlefield. That's like asking why quarterbacks are hit by linemen, or why half-naked women attract perverts.

Sir Arch-Duke Ferdinand II Jr. Sr. III Phd.

in halo wars and a in the books pelicans and longswords are shown escaping a planet's gravity. but likes 500 years from now im sure they could figure something out

And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller

it's because phantoms are better >:U ...XD

Because there are at least 10 people inside, and the Covenant love killionaires. also note that Spirits/Phantoms never go down in cut scenes.

_______
-...you are a gigantic female genitalia sanitizing apparatus.

Why does Bungie do this you say?

Because they can.

Death to escape artists.

Copious amounts of plasma armamants have a tendency to effect one's ability to fly what has been said is an unwieldy green beast in the best of times? Unheard of! Must be post-traumatic stress disorder; get some new pilots you lazy bums of the UNSC!

  • 11.01.2009 8:03 PM PDT

Let's now start to think about how many times enemy dropships get shot down. In Halo 3 you can shoot down about 7 phantoms (lol 7) and in ODST you can shoot down about 4 phantoms in a row on Coastal Highway so enemy dropships are shot down about as much as pelicans are.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Pelicans are made of carboard.

Yeah, but weren't there more?

  • 11.01.2009 8:36 PM PDT

Because then there wouldnt be a awesome shirt that says "It's the peli-CAN, not the peli-CAN'T"

It's a big, noisy, aircraft carrier containing armed marines, and it has no defensive weapons whatsoever.

Hell, I'd be more concerned if they weren't shot down multiple times a game.

A Pelican can't be shot up, gravity doesn't work like that...hopefully

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

No weapons? You are sorely mistaken.
