Subject: Halo & Religion

I've noticed (and I'm sure billions of other people) that halo has numerous religious references (ie. The Flood, The Ark, Halos) and I think theres more but i forget.

Do these mean anything? And if they do does Reach symbolize any religious event? I mean it is a big event in the Halo universe. And the fact that alot of people died at reach just makes it seem like it would be! Any1 know?

In the Halo Universe

Humans=Atheist
Covenant= Blind&Religious

I'd have to say yes, this was done on purpose by Bungie.

If somebody's opinion is being smashed and nobody's helping, I try and help. I use logic and extensive vocabulary (and sometimes self-destructive circular reasoning) to confuse my enemies into submission. Fear me, trolling, fapping creatures of the night. For I. Am your worst nightmare.

Halo is practically based off of the Bible. There are so many references to the Bible that you could call Halo the New Bible.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed, knowing better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives: not men, for flags.

You're wrong. The religious symbolism does not stem from the Human-Covenant War. It is from the Forerunners, and their structures. The Forerunner plan is what symbolizes the Bible. The Ark saving them from the Flood, etc.

You have it completely backwards. The Halo series embraces Christianity, it doesn't bash it.

The ark was a haven from a flood. Which was eradicated by a Halo (angles; god ect. also ultimate power)

Reach doesn't have any religious symbolism. As far as I know.

wow never noticed that... so is the story line pro or con religion?

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

I didn't say it bashes it, but I feel it does show how wrong religion can be. How easily it can be used to fool multiple civilizations, down a path of self-destruction(The Covenant trying to activate the ring)

No.

The Halo story is basically creating real circumstances for fictional stories (in another fictional world) that outright disproves the bible and religious junk without discarding history and ancient texts that have been misinterpreted over time.

The story of Halo is genius because it cannot be disproved in our lifetime. Within 100 years we will not likely get passed Mars or Venus, nor will the idiot governments of the world actually accord any important to finish exploring the goddamn Earth (we barely know what's in the Earth's crust and the -blam!- oceans aren't even fully mapped yet).

Good day sir.

In Halo:

Precursors = God and Angels
Forerunners = Jews from the Old Testament
Covenant = Christians
Humans = Muslims

Halo parallels both the Abrahamic Religions as well as the Crusades. Humans in the holy lands (Muslims), Covenant trying to take it away (Christians), and the humans are actually the Forerunner (according to Quran the Jews of the OT were Muslims but their stories were muddled over time).

Great Journey = Rapture

Master Chief is Jesus because he is the "Reclaimer" and he was chosen by God to save humankind. I'm not a devout Christian but this is what I think. Someone on the Halo ODST forum posted a substantial analysis of Halo/Bible references and symbolism. I think the thread was something like "You just played through an epic poem"

"Everyone is capable of doing extraordinary things, each in his own way. Some are perfectly happy doing simple things in good spirits, others, however, concentrate on details. We are all different, and it really doesn't matter if you focus on space travel or work in the fields. What is important is to do what you really want."
-Alexander Kemurdzhian

My personal opinion ( don't mock me ): The Halo franchise as a whole has major religous undertones. I'm sure that was deliberate as well...

No, Halo isn't the new bible. Halo is the bible. I swear if the bible was like Halo, I would read it. Though their is alot of referencing between Halo and The Bible.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Reach:
Furthest Reach -> sphere of influence, since it was the largest Human military base

This.

It's so true. If you read the bible you can easily see all the refrences.

The Halo Universe goes so much deeper than any individual religion or prophecy, It combines some of the deepest esoteric truths such as Astrology, Kabbala, Alchemy, sacred geometry, while combining meta physics and quantum physics. Ancient "Forerunner" aliens actually were just humans that by the descriptions of their technology and manifestations, were the perfect race. But they created a biological virus that would consume all sentient life, it was called "the flood", however, the "forerunner" with ultimate wisdom of space and time, collectively stored all of the galaxies information in the "ARK" which would resonate out the collective information, after all sentient life was wiped out so the flood could be destroyed. This whole story also puts into perspective, that the prophecies of revelations will keep happening regardless of how advanced humans are, it's a cycle for us to learn from, however it presents itself.The important thing here, is that the forerunner willfully sacrificed themselves, because they did not care how long it took for themselves to be made and relearn everything, time is not a factor at all when ur thinking in higher dimensions. This is why I also don't believe that bungie came up with the HALO story on their own, and that they recieved the story for the game from somewhere else. OR, it is a compilation of Atlantean myth. But I still praise them for the extreme care they took into delivering such a message. It's a mind blower, cause It is possible, so actually did happen somewhere in reality, and it CAN happen here. And the humans that discover the forerunner technology live in the year 2552, and how they live is a huge possiblity if the NWO actually prevails, and humanity gets locked into another matrix here on earth....really trippy when looked at seriously and not just a video game.

Going into alchemy and sacred geometry. Every single piece of forerunner technology is perfect, and still lasting even though it could have existed for hundreds of thousands of years. This makes me believe that the metals used are both extremely conductive and pure from all impurities, as it is capable of galactic communication. Second, all the architecture is geometrical, including the ark which is symbolic of the flower of life.
I want to stress the importance of reading all of the halo books AND TERMINALS, the terminals express in great detail the capabilites of the forerunner, and their AI. It reveals in depth, the ability to store matter as data if the resonation is stored collectively. THE ONLY thing I haven't figured out and bungie left way open is what happens now? what is the point of a shield world if they didn't make it to onyx, and what will happen to doctor hasley and the rest of the spartans? I am interested because i feel as though it could show in detail some means of survival if another apocalypse is right around the corner, and halo's delivery is definetly another landmark pointing towards this revelation.
If anything...........I WANT -blam!- RECON ARMOR FOR STUDYING YOUR RELIGION SO IN DEPTH

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

You should probablt study Halo's history as well. You made alot of mistakes.

What, r u serious, please inform me? I left out a ton because i don't feel like typing so much, especially dealing with forerunner AI, how they are the overseers of the recreation after the forerunner etc....But do you agree with any of this, or are you just that big of a fan boy to realize what I typed. AND ON TOP OF ALL THINGS, I JUST REALIZED THE DATE OF THIS DISCUSSION!!! 117 is a biblical number that also resembles a date of certain marriages in occultic myth. There is no such thing as coincidence if you see reality from a perspective such as the forerunner. The number also shows even further J ohn/J esus comparison. HE is the savior of the new forerunner, the risin christ, that is a comparison to what is going on now, and look at the worlds current situation. I copy and pasted alot of that writing from some previous writings I did, so It's not really complete and a little chopped up, I WOULD LOVE DISCUSSION
