I do not consider the Laser overpowered either. I consider the weapon too advanced for previous UNSC use. it wasn't until after extensive covenant combat the UNSC was able to gain personal shielding, let alone the only light based weapon in the UNSC arsenal EVER. If spartan lasers had been around earlier, they would probably have been the replacement for MAC cannons on UNSC ships. Canonically, the Spartan Laser is a mess only because of Halo Wars.

Hardly, a Prowler in Ghosts of Onyx uses a pulse laser functionally identical to a Spartan Laser sometime around 2535.

If you think the technology of high powered pulse lasers precludes MACs then you'd be wrong. A simple explanation would be that MACs are much cheaper, more reliable, more powerful, use less power (I could go on).

no.

  • 11.02.2009 5:13 PM PDT

There should only be 1 Laser with no respawn. Mid map so teams have to fight for it.

  • 11.02.2009 5:28 PM PDT

realy it takes no skill to use homing rocket lasers u have aim at the object as it fires and u still can jump away from it to save also the missle pod is homing but u still can dodge it they should keep everything the same as it is right now

  • 11.02.2009 5:34 PM PDT

I will be there to answer your questions! No matter how obvious or stupid they may be, don't be afraid to ask. It'll pay off in the long haul.

I say make it easier to use on infantry (less charge time) but make it so its ONLY GOOD ON INFANTRY then bring back the homing rocket. Cut the laser on major vehicle levels like avalanche and valhalla so we can drive warthogs without having to duck in cover all the time.

  • 11.02.2009 5:37 PM PDT

No, remove the Missle Pod, that was the thing that ruined the Homing Rockets. I think the Fuel Rod Gun also had a homing ability in Halo 2, right?

  • 11.02.2009 5:39 PM PDT

Laser IS overpowered. Its too easy. One guy can shred the entire enemy vehicle armada in a few seconds. I've noticed, in many heavy games, nobody gets into vehicles because it means instant death. I personally enjoy homing rockets. I get an audible warning and can use random cover and battle wreckage to block the rockets. But with a laser, you can be on the other side of the map, nice and safe, and calmly destroy EVERYTHING that dares pop its head out.

  • 11.02.2009 6:18 PM PDT

hola!

aww man its sooo fu though :) it should be 2 shots to take out a vehicle unless you nail the driver or gunner. then it would need more skill to use. you would actualy have to aim at the driver to take em out even though the vehicle itself would still be intact

  • 11.02.2009 6:25 PM PDT

Peace through superior firepower.

Methinks missle pod r liek teh homnig rockert. Tehy go at u 2 liek teh homnig rockert. Teh lazzer r liek cool tho. I LIKE LAZZERS!

Maybe the Sp'laser pulses a little more slowly so you have to keep it on the target for every beam to hit.

The number of beams to kill would of course be different for different vehicles, for example 1 or 2 to kill a Mongoose or Banshee or 3 or 4 to kill a Warthog or Chopper, 5 beams total.

You guys talking about how it makes no sense for the Laser to exist in Reach fail to realize we are talking about multiplayer, it doesn't matter because there is no cannon in multiplayer. With that said, the Laser is a badass weapon and better not be removed from the game. It takes skill to use the weapon on both vehicles and people. Learn how to avoid the weapon instead of complaining about it, it takes away the fun from us that know how to use it.

Modify the laser to make it weaker and bring back the homing rocket

Yet they have enough power to run a Shaw Fujikawa Slipsace Drive and a large magnetic coil gun built into the center of the ship. I'm thinking power isn't the issue here. Probably practicality and ONI itself.

Punch a bear in the face.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

I think the Laser is fine. The charge up makes it visible, avoidable, and you can still miss. With the Rocket Launcher, you instantly knew that you're probably going to die.

It's just a possible explanation showing that the technology of Spartan Lasers and the MACs as the primary space weapon are not mutually exclusive.

MACs would certainly cost much less to build and would almost certainly be much easier to fix. Did you know that a single Spartan Lasers costs the UNSC more than four Warthogs just to purchase?

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

Are you kidding? With the homing rocket, you just had to keep part of your reticule on them for a second and you got a free kill. With the laser, if your reticule is not right on when it fires, you're screwed. The rocket was a shoot and forget weapon, while the laser actually takes a degree of skill.

The more you build, the less it costs. And I doubt the UNSC was concerned with price, especially since the US military today has billion dollar planes flying around.

Looking to hook up with some competent players! Please PM me if you want a decent team mate, looking to learn from good players and impart what I know to the team too. Im sick of going 'randy' and getting betrayed for the sniper etc.. and having to put up with BK team mates

Homing rocket = Missile pod

Keep the laser just the way it is, it balances the Vehicles Vs spartans on foot situation. Imagine if the other team was in all the vehicles and there was no laser and no missile's left in the missile pod and they were covering its spawn area or they just kept dodging them? They would then have a huge advantage over the other team and would more than likely win.

I think the laser doesn't imbalance the game play at all, it eventually runs out of juice, it takes time to respawn and if you don't aim it well you will miss.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Actually, based on my experiences (Trying to get Gold again), I'd say the Spartan Laser is NOT a one hit kill. Based on connection or host, the Spartan Laser can kill in one shot (Most common), or in two shots (rare, but still kind of common).

  • 11.02.2009 7:26 PM PDT

I wish I was still legendary.

I wouldn't say remove it so much as make it weaker, shoot slower than it currently does and have a spread like in the H3 beta. The H2 rocket was...a bit overeffective.
