Who thinks it would be good to drive pelicans on Halo-Reach.
I think it would do you? Pelican driving on multiplayer maps to drop a mongoose or a warthog maybe a scorpion and pods. And people. (duh)

-...you are a gigantic female genitalia sanitizing apparatus.

I think if the netcode is improved and we can fit more than 16 people in the "Big Team" games, then driving a Pelican to drop off you friends somewhere would be awesome.

Worst idea ever...http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=8664824

It would be completely useless on any map we have seen so far. If Bungie decides to make a map that is absolutely massive and would require a troop transport vehicle then yes, otherwise hell no. It would basically be a flying tank.

lol but getting shot down would but bungie could make it look cool with different animations of going down like spiraling

hell no.
you'd need a huge map to have pelicans. and how many times have you seen a genius take a warthog and NOT wait for a gunner, and they end just trying to splatter.
so you'll have to be walking all the way to the enemy base, avoiding lasers, hazards and snipers and vehicles.

talk of a waste...

It could be like the elephant. I don't know how fast they move so I can't judge whether or not it would be fair to have them. I think they might just be too annoying to drive since they are so big.

Seriously, I just think pelicans would work.

First of all, I highly doubt that people would honestly put all their faith in one pilot keeping them alive and not doing something stupid. What would you do if the person driving the pelican you are in simply flies in circles in the middle of the map. Do you risk bailing out into a situation when there is most likely an enemy sniper waiting for you? If you wait too long, you will die anyway from a result of rocket/splazer fire.

Secondly, I would imagine that pelicans are a nightmare to balance gameplay wise. If they're made extremely durable, then players would be able to cross the map with near impunity. If they're too weak, they will just be useless geometry on the map since no one would drive them.
Also, regardless of how durable the pelican is, the destroyed version of it would take up a massive amount of space on the map and could be abused to block entry ways for extended amounts of time.

On top of that, what about the imbalance that results when a team loses their pelican. If the pelican has any importance on the map at all, then the team would be forced to wait until it respawns until any significant push can be made. I do not view that as fun. On the other hand, if the pelican is indestructible, how would Bungie prevent the obvious abuses which come with it.

Personally I just don't see these being in the game other than a possible forge item.

Okay the pelican could work as long as there are other transport vehicles in the map. basically the pelican would be like the Elephants.

It would be invincible. You would have to have two people enter it for it to take off.

A direct rocket to the cockpit, or spartan laser would kill the driver and them only. making the pelican rocket to the ground

also it could make for some really sweet capture the flag games.

I don't think the pelican should be a usable vehicle in match making, but I do believe that it should be available in forge. If this is truly Bungie's last Halo game, I think they should go all out. They should make (almost)every vehicle we've wanted to drive and every gun we've wanted to use available, but only in custom games. Match making should stick to the time tested formula, but I believe we need more room for excitement and creativity in forge and custom games.

Yes it is spelt like that on purpose.

Not only would it require a rather large map but we would probably need more players to be effective. For this to happen we would definitly need some upgrades to servers, draw distance, etc.

Would it be cool? Yes
Will it REALLY happen? Small chances

Honestly what I see to be more plausible is a campaign mission where a pelican is drivable. But still small chances, just in my opinion slightly better than pelicans in multiplayer.

I'm assuming that if the pelican is invincible, then it would lack the rocket armaments it has in the campaign (It would be even worse than the hornet).

Secondly, if it is invincible except for the cockpit, then you run into problems where a player is virtually impossible to kill. All they would have to do is rotate in circles to ensure the cockpit was not hit. Quite frankly, skilled banshee pilots are virtually unkillable without a laser, and even then its hard to get a shot off before they disappear. What would stop the pelican from being worse? I have some other important questions as well.

What would be the purpose then of the pelican? Would it be a transport vehicle or a base? I was personally treating it as a transport vehicle in my post like the pelican is used in campaign. I guess it could also function as a base.

If it is a transport vehicle, how would you balance it so that it would not be overpowering if a team got the other team's pelican? . Rockets and splazers are generally uncommon at best on halo maps, so how would a team regain control of their pelican after a wipe (forgive the MMO term).

If it is a base, would the flag spawn on the pelican or somewhere else on the map? If the flag is in the pelican, I could see people flying it out of reach to all but enemy aircraft. Sure, having a bunch of aircraft like banshee and hornets sounds like it could work, but again in the event that a team wipes (argghh), it would be literally impossible for them to score at all due to a lack of aircraft. Also, if the pelicans retain any of their speed from the campaign, a game could be over in a matter of seconds if the other team steals your pelican. If the pelican does not have the flag, then see below.

On a similar note, why would a pelican even be a necessary in the flow of the map? My final question is something that I used to wonder about for Sandtrap. Generally speaking, the elephants are best left unmoved and as static geometry. They could just as easily be replaced by actual immobile bases on the maps. If the pelican did not hold the flag, it would serve very little tactical import. It could just as easily be replaced by a troop hog or a rocketless hornet.

Also, if the pelican is where the team spawns and retains its speed, I could see an enemy team storming a pelican and taking it to a very disadvantaged location on the map to spawn kill, kind of like taking an enemy's elephant to the bottom middle of Sandtrap. It is again very easy for a set up enemy team to completely shut down another team and ruin there fun.

Pelican's being drivable would be:
-great in Campaign
-terrible in multiplayer
