Subject: "Call of Duty: Halo" - Not Such A Bad Idea

Its a trap!!!

this is bungie...they dont rip from COD who do u think they are?

yes beneath them i say

and to respond to the topic creator. No I won't flame you. But I like halo for being what it is. Not make it like some other game.

You may say that makes me a bit closed minded. But I also like COD and play it every now an then

The best chance to use some of the class options and apply weight factors would of been to the ODST soldier in Halo ODST. But instead bungie stayed with the formula that everyone loves.

COD is different, Halo is different, don't want to blend them. Sure I might like Class Halo better then COD. But I already love Halo and the way it plays better then COD anyway and defenitly more then I would love a halo class version

Of course everyone knows that the best class based game is Sony Infantry for the PC =)

Although its not 3dish and a FPS you basically have energy shielded soldiers with class base abilities

Beware the smiley face! =D

NO.

One of the greatest things about Halo matchmaking is that everybody starts off on even terms, same weapons etc. Class based play ruins this.

If you play CoD4 for a while you realise that its just an endless slaughter of lower levelled players due to better weapons. Well, its not so bad in CoD4 because the weapons you start with are actualy quite good (M16, for instance, is spitting death on hardcore) but on CoD WaW its rubbish because lower levelled and casual players get whipped endlesseley.

So bassically, NO CLASSES IN HALO. EVER. I dont mind bringing in some ideas from other games, but classes would ruin Halo MM.

EDIT - Sorry to flame, but really, im fed up of the classes ideas. Even with weapon balancing to the extreme, Halo's system will always beat the CoD system or class system from any other game.

First and foremost, I want to see gameplay that's similar to Halo 1. However, if that cannot be done, I'd much rather see a class-based system like in Team Fortress 2, than gameplay that is similar to Halo 2 & 3. (Note: Call of Duty is not a true class-based game.)

It is incredibly fun to get walked over by higher leveled players because they start off with better guns. Incredibly balanced too, I might add. Besides, getting shot in the back without being able to retaliate gets old real fast

I agree Team Fortress is a better model for a class game

I love Halo 1 and its still my favorite game but I do have some beef with it

1. Fall Damage and Health Packs- Slows down gameplay as I repeated so many times in other post. Takes you away from your team to find a health pack taking away from teamshooting and other productive things you can do

2. Body physics- It sucks that you or someone can nade a body and it flies in your face and splaters you. Banshee wing funny but body thats a little stupid

3. Jumping- Halo 3 has a much better jumping system. You can jump nearly as high in H1. Jumping opens up for much better strafing and makes getting to some higher spots more quickly and as you know by now I am a big advocate of having a smooth flowing gameplay that moves at a decent fast pace

So the perfect game for me right now would be Halo 1 minus the three things I stated

Keep all the original weapons

Add
H3 Beam Rifle- Alien Sniper wouldnt hurt
H3 Needler- H1 needler was close to useless
H3 Carbine- Just to add variety since the pistol dominates at its range
Laser- Laser is awesome
Sword- Not sure if to use Halo 2 or 3s lunge. Since the shotgun and assault rifle have better range then H2 and 3s I might bring back the H2 sword lunge

Equipment- I hate them for the most part I only would put grav lift, tripmine, and radar jammer in the game

You might say this would make it closer to halo 3. I say I am combining what I loved about the 2 games. The CE pistol, MA5b and plasma rifle are much better then the Halo 3 counter parts

Personally i'd much rather see a Battlefield (Like Bad Company, or 1943) style Halo than I would a CoD style Halo.

If I wanted to play CoD... I'd put my disc in...
If I wanted to play Halo... I'd put my disc in...

CoD =/= Halo and they shouldn't.
Leave them out of eachother.

It's totally based on opinion, so no, it's not Not Such A Bad Idea. That's your opinion.

My opinion is that you're a monkey.

The 'Pritty Floyd' of Halo!

Well IMO Halo:Reach will be different to all other Halo games, gameplay, engine, maybe even genre. Why els would they put out a BETA if it was just a new, polished up Halo game?

Thats what I think.

Out.

Everbody is like "No, this is Halo not CoD!" but no one said anything about CoD gameplay, just a selection for starting weapons similar to CoD (or Battlefield, Rainbow Six, whatever you want).

The reason why this is a good idea is because we can all leave the starting weapon crap that forces you to play a certain style of game every time you respawn. This is actually kind-of what Halo 3 map Valhalla did, where you spawn on your base 4/5 times with a AR and you get to choose to pick up a BR, SMG, Sniper Rifle, if these weapons are there. But what if you don't spawn on your base, or what if these weapons are not there to pick up?

The classic Halo style gameplay will still be present, you can still pick up other/better weapons on the map, you still have your vehicles and energy shields, etc.

Why would we have to call of dutys when we can have one call of duty and one Halo

  • 11.04.2009 9:03 AM PDT

What seperates Halo from CoD is the fact that it is NOT class based. It's like a completely different genre.

Halo multiplayer is about controlling the map, and the weapons and powerups on the map. Its kind of like chess. If you remove that, you lose that dimension of the game and it is no longer Halo.

However, I'm sure a dedicated team of modders could make a CoD4 mod for this, like they did with Star Wars: Galactic Warfare. But it should never, ever be a Bungie product.

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

Its actually a terrible idea when you look at the business side of things. I would not infringe on the niche of an already massively successful class based shooter on the same platform as the games I am making (i.e Call of Duty), especially when I already had a working formula. Especially when the next CoD is going to come out within a few months of Reach being released, and then the next CoD will be pumped out ~1 year later where as Halo games generally only come out every several years.

I would have been cool for ODST, but i was really not expecting much from that game. however there are elements that CoD has that halo could really use, like Immersion, halo was never an immersive game but I have see improvements in ODST, and more simple first person animations. I don't have examples off hand but i think you get my point

good point, but that more good level design and setting than immersion. but that would be a shining example of what halo should be.
